One thing about "AI" is with the technology OpenAI has (large neural network plus manual tagging) you could've made the best search engine ever. There could be a Copilot where you describe what you wanted and it finds an example of it in the corpus of open source software. You could go from a fuzzy image description to a stock image. These would be better than buggy code and fucked up images. But they wouldn't do that because the *service* OpenAI provides is obscuring that the content is stolen.
One of my AI use cases is "tip of the tongue" searches, things like "find me a movie where the dog dies, shortly followed by...." or "find me that comment from Hackernews on a story about Google buying some fitness startup that linked to books about x"

We average about $35/day for food (2 adults, 2 kids) and $10/day for gas, if we are being cheap. Dog food is $22/week. So we need around $335-$340 to make it through the week, making sure everyone is fed and gets to school. Any help, however small, is deeply appreciated.

and if you copy the toml.sample config files to .toml, it breaks things. You can't just use those config files as-is.

@techsinger Can also just do the transcription with Whisper or one of the other local transcription models available. There are some apps for desktop and iOS as well that might be able to help.
Oh undoubtedly, and indeed that is preferable. The problem is that, without an M series mac, with at least 2 or 3 being helpful, or a GPU, it will take quite a long time to transcribe. I transcribed 18 hours on an I5 third series, but left them over night to do it.

If you have a law which is impossible to comply with, and are allowed to selectively enforce that law, you can (within limits) force anyone to implement any policy of your own choosing, with 0 public oversight.
The EU probably couldn't pass a law requiring Meta to remove opinions critical of EU politicians. It would generate too much (justified) social outrage and anger human rights / free speech activists. What they can do is to have an entirely unrelated law, which Meta must break to operate. They can then secretly use the treat of enforcing that law to make Meta implement the policies they want, voluntarily and of their own free will.
I'm not saying this is the specific company / policy combination this will be used for, but it's probably going to be something of that nature.
It's a mess, and it's not the first time the EU is doing this.
The GDPR is ripe with such abuses. Basically nobody (including European companies) fully complies with it, and the EU chooses who they don't like and who they wish to prosecute.

Es gibt mit barrieren-gutachten.de eine deutlich bessere Lösung aus der Zivilgesellschaft, mit der Menschen auch was anfangen können.
Ist natürlich auch besonders lustig, dass uns die einzelnen Landesüberwachungsstellen mit Verweis auf dieses Portal keine Daten geben wollen, weil Problem ist ja gelöst. Aber auch so implementiert, dass das Scraping/automatische Abrufen der Inhalte maximal umständlich ist und wir die Aufbereitung somit nicht einfach selbst besser machen können.
Ich hab keine Worte mehr dafür, wie einfach immer wieder *alles* verkackt wird.

Hört auf, die Namen der Prüfer*innen in die Gutachten zu schreiben, oder schwärzt die halt. Kein Aufwand, kein Verlust. - Landesspezifische Transparenzregelungen: Wenn eine Verwaltung will, kann und darf sie alles rausgeben. Es ist nicht so, als wären diese Gutachten Verschlussachen, das wäre ja richtiger Käse.
Ich finds auch interessant, dass da diesmal nicht das Stichwort „Copyright“ auftaucht. Das war zunächst das Hauptargument, mit dem man Gutachten von Telekom und Materna zurückhalten wollte, was aber offensichtlich keinen Bestand hat.
Die Gutachten beziehen sich auf staatliche Angebote, und selbst wenn die von den Konzernen nur „zur internen Verwendung“ freigegeben werden, kann man immer noch argumentieren, dass eine externe „Verwendung“ außer zur Berichterstattung überhaupt nicht möglich ist.

Well, it's done. Dropped the CLI commands and REPL interface from acsh, keeping only FUSE, and renamed it to acfs. Also added support for properties and interfaces that were missing, and made the cleanup process more robust. For me, the context is tech, but of course, tech needs to learn from everywhere else in order to see its own deficits.
Taking as a given that we are all existing in broken, cumulatively damaging cultures, I really want to move beyond sitting in that grief and move toward us being able to notice and recognize and ultimately protect repair
Often, people respond very negatively toward any comment about individual psychology because it does not solve the problems at the structural level
I recognize this, but at the same time, I think something is lost when we attack every mention of individual psychology
There's a big divergence between what we talk about when I meet with people 1:1 versus what's talked about on social media here and I don't like that divergence
At any rate, the aspects of individual psychology where we can see people rehumanize themselves after threatening encounters and situations are really beautiful, to me. I think I'm allowed to care, write, and think about that
In order for something to ever be a real solution it has to be a situated solution. Solutions in the abstract are just fictions. And I love fiction and theory but only as a thing that guides us toward trying the highest leverage thing for our particular situation.
I think if all we have to offer a struggling junior career person is "bosses are terrible," we are offering them a world in which they can never be ok because they need to have a job. And we know they need to have a job, and it's self-indulgent for us to screech at them about capitalism when we could be sharing tactics.
So offer, "here is one thing that helps manage a terrible boss," at least
