Since the release of Atlas: Jami’s biggest step toward reliable communication, work hasn’t slowed down. On the contrary: the past few months have been about tightening the bolts, cleaning up edge cases, and making day-to-day use more predictable and reliable.
From my experience I can say that the connections between contacts now work really good. Thanks for the afford, that you put into this. What doesn't really always work reliable is the online status feature. For example people are shown as online which are offline for hours. The direction, that Jami takes, is really good and I'm looking forward to it working even better!

Ich frage mich wirklich, wie man darauf kommt, Firmen und Webentwickler, die jetzt das BFSG umsetzen hinsichtlich Digitaler Barrierefreiheit als "First Mover" zu bezeichnen. Der erste Standard für Digitale Barrierefreiheit (WCAG 1.0) wurde 1999 (!) veröffentlicht. Umsetzung heute ist nicht "jetzt schon", sondern "jetzt erst".

I mean single applications is nice for the private person but if you could link tuta mail with tuta calendar and add a chat app for meetings and company schedules with tasking options and grouping options, then you could maybe replace the Microsoft teams outlook environment? I believe @nextcloud has something like this but similar pricing to Microsoft or higher.
for email I also recommend Posteo.com, it's cheap and good option. And if you must use Office better option is buying a lifetime licence instead of 365.
@benroyce Unfortunately our sales people have to receive and send PowerPoint documents with ad agencies. We can't risk that PowerPoint compatible files will suffice. On a rare basis we get Excel spreadsheets from vendors that will only work in Excel, but those are rare enough that we could have a designated Excel user.

Looking for a multi--in-one USB-C docking thing for my Macbook Pro. I want Ethernet (faster than 1 GBPS prefered), power delivery, USB A and C ports. Seems pretty hard to find things that aren't triple display whatevers. I want zero displays. Certainly don't care about three of them.
So far, I've only found one that has 2.5 GBE, but it also has no USB type A ports, which I still need.
I've also found some expensive Thunderbolt docks (OWC) that have 2.5 GBE, but they're not bus powered.
I settled on a Ugreen one with unfortunately 2 HDMI and 1 display port but to make up for that, it had a USBC PD port, a regular C port, 4 A ports, an audio jack for some reason, SD/Micro SD card slots and I think only 1 GBPS ethernet but I'll check.
@jpellis2008 I found one with 2.5 GBE, three USB A, one USB C, PD, one HDMI and no card reader (don't need the card reader, my Macbook Pro has one) so I'm going to try that.

Working on documenting the AT-SPI xml spec and realizing that the C library's documentation for character offsets and ranges is not at all clear in terms of how multi-byte characters should be handled. My wife recently discovered her corporate LLM service and is in love with how she can use it to improve her outgoing mail.
I can understand to an extent since she always wants me to correct her grammar and spelling, but it was hard for me to look anything besides uninterested/disappointed recently when she spent an hour proudly demonstrating all the prompts and responses to get to a final version.

#ArcaneChat doesn't have delivery receipts, only read receipts, the only automatic responses the app does in your behalf is to handle invite links, for that to be abused you first have to share your invite link with a malicious contact, you can get in contact with random/public entity via their invite link and be safe, as long as it is not you the one sharing your invite link!

Fwiw, sending out the emails is a separate action from setting the status as accepted/rejected. Some devrooms probably do not send the emails yet as they want backups in case some speakers don't answer the acceptance email.
There are some confusing bits in the interface if all devrooms start sending mails at the same time (which is happening now). I can see the mail in the outbox, someone might have missed pressing send. I'll poke them.
In general, some devrooms edit rejection mails (which is a good thing), which may also cause them to be sent a bit later than in the interface shows.
@johanvdw I also see the accepted e-mails not coming to my inbox. Sorry to be pain in the a**. This might be a reason someone not to accept their confirmed talk.
Boy Tailscale is just fire for a little network/homelab newbie like me. Being able to connect to my routers interface or any other device in the network at home through a raspberry pi acting as subnetrouter, being able to send wake on lan packets from anywhere through a little docker container that's just sitting there that I can access from anywhere. Being able to use it as reverse proxy to let a vps securely connect to these services and even expose them to the outside, or just routing all the traffic through an exit node somewhere. Love it. It makes life so much more easy.

I am in disbelief that the only argument I'm seeing mobilized against age verification laws (and their accompanying social media bans) is “It sucks for privacy!”, and not “why the fuck are we okay imposing a digital jail on every single child?”
Digital privacy matters and it's an important reason why these laws must be repealed at all costs, but let's also please humanize the issue here: social media bans for minors are just another massive chapter in the conservative's playbook to deprive any social class that's not ‘adult white males’ of their bodily and existential autonomy.
That same playbook has chapters we're already familiar with, including staples such as “let's force gay kids back into the closet”, “trans kids shouldn’t be able to decide anything for themselves”, “women shouldn't have a bank account”, and “abortion should be illegal”.
I feel conflicted about it because I do see how much harm social media can do and how its design definitely amplifies abusive behaviour by creating a system which rewards bullying with the serotonin of likes and boosts.
But the fact they're choosing to age limit it instead of force redesigns as if bullying is something only kids experience (it isn't, we just call it harassment instead when it happens to adults) and ignore how this will kill support networks for queer kids is telling...
The answer to "bullying is happening on the playground" is "we should see how we can deal with bullying" not "we should protect kids by no longer allowing them to go out and play" :/

I definitely think we need to change a lot with social media, especially the mainstream ones (but Mastodon is not free of flaws either). And companies definitely won't make those changes themselves, because the abuse gives extra income as upset people disengage less quickly.
I'm not saying I know the answer to fixing it all, but age verification seems like a sledgehammer approach that will do more harm than good.
@SylvieLorxu you are absolutely right, but I am very much in the camp that social media is the root of all evil & the reason everything is awful right now. But the real underlying reality is unchecked power & wealth, I can't see that getting resolved by anything, so age verification very much just feels like paying lip service to an issue so complicated nobody even knows where to start. Mastodon at least feels like a decent starting point...
