I'm looking for a new job, or contract work, for the first time in a while - boosts appreciated!
I'm a polyglot programmer, with a wide range of experience behind me, from developing firmware that runs on 8-bit AVR, to highly distributed systems across hundreds of nodes, I covered pretty much the whole landscape.
I had my fair share of Ops experience too, and worked in (technical) Customer Service aswell.
I speak many languages (#C, #Rust, #Lua, #Python, #JavaScript, some #Go among them), but I pride myself in being able to pick up a new language at a decent level between signing a contract and starting on the job.
I'm a #Linux guy through and through, and have very little experience (or desire) to work with anything else, save maybe for the BSDs. I worked with containers, databases (relational and otherwise); in the cloud and on premises. I can debug, I can mentor, I can teach, and build, and integrate (continuously, even!). I'm not afraid of git rebase, nor of a crowd to speak in front of.
I live in Hungary, and am seeking remote work. I cannot relocate.
If you are someone looking for something like that, or know someone who is, please get in touch. My CV - with contacts - is available here.

So, funny story: remember how that Stanford professor described last years' layoffs as a "social contagion" exercise, where CEOs were just doing it because everyone else was doing it?

Well everyone get your surprised face ready but it was in fact a coordinated effort by execs, large shareholders and hedge funds to cover up mismanagement and suppress wages:

A really nifty deep dive on the current state of #AI #VoiceCloning #music #CoverSongs, via getting the artists #WeirdAlYankovic parodied to ‘cover’ his songs
It mainly shows how distinctive Weird Al’s voice is, though MechaLorde singing ‘Foil’ is pretty good
AI has the potential to disrupt the whole comedy genre of pop-cultural pastiche and parody. Why would you watch comedians doing impressions of celebrities, or riffing on pop-culture texts, when you could just manipulate the celebrity yourself using AI?
Still, what constantly annoys me about the state of AI-driven parody (eg the meme of pop-culture characters as #Balenciaga models) is that the writing underpinning them is so poor
So even if we get to a point where we can completely puppeteer real people’s likenesses and voices, it still fails if there isn’t decent writing
Weird Al’s writing has always been excellent and hilarious. I mean, lines like in ‘Fat’, his parody of ‘Bad’: “When I sit around the house, I really sit around the house”
So far, that kind of stuff can’t be automatically generated – AI-created comedy is of the surreal and absurdist kind that reads as an unintentional, “machine-innocent” artefact of the generation process

North Carolina Republicans create a "secret police force"
North Carolina’s new $30 billion state budget contains a provision that gives extraordinary investigative powers to a partisan oversight committee co-chaired by Senate Leader Phil Berger (R) and House Speaker Tim Moore (R).
The Joint Legislative Committee on Government Operations — or Gov Ops for short — is empowered to seize “any document or system of record” from anyone who works in or with state and local government during its investigations.
The rule applies to contractors, subcontractors, and any other non-state entity “receiving, directly and indirectly, public funds,” including charities and state universities.
Moreover, Gov Ops staff will be authorized to enter “any building or facility” owned or leased by a state or non-state entity *without a judicial warrant*.
👉This includes the private residences of subcontractors and contractors who run businesses out of their homes, lawmakers say.
Alarmingly, public employees under investigation will be required to keep all communication and requests “confidential.” 👉 They cannot alert their supervisor of the investigation nor consult with legal counsel.
Violating this rule “shall be grounds for disciplinary action, including dismissal,” the law reads.
Those who refuse to cooperate face jail time and fines of up to $1,000.
In the event that Gov Ops searches a person’s home, these rules mean that the person
👉 1) must keep the entry a secret,
👉 2) cannot seek outside help (unless necessary for fulfilling the request, the law says), and
👉 3) could face criminal charges if Gov Ops deems them uncooperative

Nebude to víc.

To zatím bude stačit.
Zhruba za týden (jakmile budu mít, díky znalosti množství, pevnou cenu), napíšu všem zájemcům zpět informaci, jak bude možné kalendář objednat. Napíšu samozřejmě i sem.
Myslím, že bychom zvládli vše naplánovat tak, aby byl kalendář do konce října u vás.

in reply to Emmanuele Bassi • • •I considered the DocC syntax of:
```
> Note: Foo
```
and GitHub's:
```
> [!NOTE]
> Foo
```
but the former falls apart with blocks, and the latter is *screaming* in my face.
Emmanuele Bassi
in reply to Emmanuele Bassi • • •So, currently the syntax I chose is:
```
::: note
This is a note
```
with the option of a custom title:
```
::: note "A nice note"
This is a note with a custom title.
```

in reply to Emmanuele Bassi • • •are the backticks part of the note markup (delimiters), or are you just using them as separators within the post?
Asking because trying to get Sphinx HTML output and GitHub repo-view HTML to be the same once ruined my life.

in reply to Emmanuele Bassi • • •The stuff I had the most trouble with in blocks like notes/admonitions was where you had to nest markup. E.g., style the name of a token in a Note title or use reserved chars like " and _ . That broke with a lot of constructs that have an open delimiter but relied on whitespace instead of having a closing one.
Certainly it's the parser's fault in that case, but whatcha gonna do? 🤷♂️
So, wondering if you've combatted that here...
