I have now configured my mail server to provide an MTA-STS policy for inbound message encryption. I already had DANE set up, but some providers only use MTA-STS.
The only real difficulty I encountered was that my SMTP server needed to present the entire certificate chain to mail senders; otherwise, some of them (Google, at least) would fail to verify the certificate.

Hi. The issue is that "turning a blind eye" to something doesn't mean that you can't see something. It means that you can actually see something, a thing that's usually harmful or problematic in some way, but you're deliberately choosing to ignore it and look the other way. It's the same reason why I dislike it when people similarly use the expression "a deaf ear" to things they'd rather not have to listen to.

#TIL I learned that German cities used to have a "Bettelvogt" or "Armenvogt" - a minor official whose job was it to "control the behavior" of beggars and other poor people.

They were explicitly tasked to _control_ beggars, and not help them in any way. Which just goes to show that shitty behavior towards poor people by the authorities was well-established long before the advent of #LateStageCapitalism .

One of the worst misfeatures of #Mastodon from a safety angle: If you get an abusive reply to your post, you can't remove it even by blocking the person. Even after blocking, your server still shows the abusive reply to everyone else.

There has been a patch ready to fix this for 2 years, 6 months, and 1 day. @Gargron has not approved it, and has provided *zero* explanation for why he will not allow it to be merged.

Those of you who have to work through Google, Apple and other store's compliance, we feel you! Maintaining around 16+ target distribution sites for cross platform apps takes a constant toll on us.
