We are ordering in tonight. My oldest daughter is treating us. She's ordering from a Chinese place. We are going to share the dishes. I decided on 6 samosas: 3 spinach and cream cheese, and 3 jerk chicken. I'm going to try the mango pineapple Habanero sauce. This is going to be so good.
in reply to Winter blue tardis🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis Yeah, very good point. The rest of the family chose Chinese, but the samosas just sounded so good. I guess I just couldn't resist them.

feeling better yay! The line to the pharmacy was out to the street though for the drive-through, the one time going in actually got me a line of 5 folks rather than the cars out there.

Kyle: What were you doing outside?

Me: Checking if I could use the camera with mittens and now I have a THOUSAND NEW PICTURES that are not through a window!!!

Really needed that today 😊

in reply to kaybeeque

@kaybee335 Another I found are mitts that can be lifted to reveal the fingers... not sure how they are called. I have had a pair before iPhone was a thing.
in reply to Hubert Figuière

@hub I have a pair of those and found them awkward. Same with the fingertip-flip gloves.

Your fingers are already cold and you end up messing with the seals for what seems like forever just to stop the drafts.

Likely just me. I certainly stopped using them once I found the liner gloves.
🤷‍♂️

For the first time in a long time, I'm being asked to allow #Youtube ads. Running Firefox, UBlock Origin, clearing the UBlock caches isn't solving it.

I noticed that #NotebookLM doesn't do well with training data off of my mastodon profile, or any profile at all. When I put the link to my profile, instead of talking about what's in the profile, it talks about #JavaScript. It talks about how to use the web application with mastodon instead of training off of a profile. It emphasizes the need for JavaScript to be enabled in web browsers for proper functionality. As an alternative, the message suggests using one of the available native apps , offering a solution for users who may experience difficulties. The message is concise and directly addresses potential usability issues , making it practical for users encountering problems. The overall purpose is to provide quick troubleshooting advice for accessing the Mastodon service. That's all it does. Is there a way to have it actually read everything from a profile from #Mastodon, or is there not a fixed for that?
in reply to Winter blue tardis🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis OK Karen, you're probably right. NotebookLM doesn't just train stuff randomly like what stuff like ChatGPT does. You have to give it this linked material, for example, pasting a link to something, that's how the AI gets it's data from. It doesn't know anything until you feed it or something. You have to give the AI the information, which could be done by links, PDFs, and text documents, and audio files/videos, but in this case we're talking about links. Nobody else is going to know about their information until they put their own profile through something like notebookLM.
in reply to Bryce Belcher

No, but that's truly an impolite, ass behaviour. I wouldn't train an ai on anyone's profile, and I would request the same from them. Just saying. Just because the world has turned to shit, we don't have to forget consideration and kindness are a thing.

Is this 12 days of OpenAI Shipmas or Madmas? O3 and O3 Mini? Guess someone should put an end to this. In the meantime, ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode with Camera access, a technology announced 7 months ago, consistently fails to read text from books. It even offers a summary of backcovers instead of reading the actual text.

in reply to Jason Lefkowitz

Just a bit of free comms advice: when a critical press story about you arrives, you will be tempted to take to your blog to rebut it line by line. This is a very bad idea you should resist at all costs
This entry was edited (22 hours ago)
in reply to Jason Lefkowitz

Why?

1. It just draws more attention to the original story, which was the last thing you wanted, remember?

2. If you try to rebut it at a high level, you'll look like you're hiding something. If you try to get into the weeds, you'll look petty and nitpicking. You can't win.

3. Getting some bad press is an inevitable side effect of being a public figure. Trying to stop it all makes you look like King Canute ordering the tide to not come in.

If the story got something factually wrong, publish a correction. Otherwise, anything you say will only make things worse.

Must admit I hate donation pop-up introduced on @k9mail app and new "In-app purchases" flag on store page :blobcatumm:

It used to be the cleanest e-mail experience I've had on my :android: devices for more than a decade, the same user interface I could trust for years and years :ablobcatbongokeyboard:

in reply to Gytis Repečka

We're sorry the donation pop hasn't been a good experience (the in-app purchases flag is only on because of the donation option). Our donations are the only things that fund our work. Speaking of that work, it's still in progress, and besides here, you can join our Android mailing lists (thunderbird.topicbox.com/lates…) and suggest changes on Mozilla Connect: connect.mozilla.org/t5/forums/…
