has anyone written a Voyager Expanded Book using the VEB Toolkit in 30 years?
(if you haven't heard of Expanded Books, michael crichton and voyager's team wrote an *excellent* version of Jurassic Park)

Does anyone still have the raw multitrack files that Kevin Reeves once released for his album "It's About Time"? I stupidly didn't hold onto them, then they disappeared. It's not clear to me if he meant to take them down because he didn't like how they were being used, or if that was just a casualty of him taking down his old website and moving on. This is mostly for my #blind followers, particularly musicians and audio production folks.
I remember I used Afraid and Alone while taking a music production class around 12 years ago. Also did a remix of Shine, don't have it any more, but was fun.
If he did mean to take those files out of circulation, maybe it's because some people posted their bad mixes of his songs on YouTube and SoundCloud. My mixes weren't very good either, but I never posted them publicly, and I don't think I have those anymore either.
I'd like to make another attempt at mixing the song "It's About Time". The original mix watered down the strings compared to what I recall hearing in the raw track, particularly in the final chorus. Of course, it's hard to balance everything in that song, particularly with the distorted guitars; I might try just getting rid of those on that song, because I think those were overdone, in the 2000s generally, not just on that album.
I don't claim any particular skill at mixing. I didn't do the echoes or any other effects except for compression on the vocals. I did turn down the guitars to make room for everything else that's going on. And I like the raw sound of the drums.

Updated the mix (same URL as before). I somewhat increased the volume on the distorted guitars, Whirly (electric piano), and one of the toms. I tweaked the vocal compression (the choir is no longer compressed). And most importantly, the mix as a whole never distorts now. And I seem to have gotten it such that the average volume level basically matches what ReplayGain says it should be.
And now I'm done pretending to be a mix engineer. Tomorrow I'll go back to work that I know how to do.

True story. There was that channel I was watching casually, one day they decided to upload "the original documentary about XYZ, restored with AI". 30 seconds in I actually unsubscribed. I can really describe it but I think that had it been handpainted by an artist from the school of Monet I would have understood.

So, I love this iPhone Mirroring thing in iOS, but one thing I don't quite understand. If I have to keep my phone around to unlock it every time I want to use the feature, what's the point of this? Couldn't Apple build in some sort of “wake up on Wifi/BT ping”, especially if it comes from a registered Mac, and let me enter my PIN or whatever?
I think that YouTube alienating their last supporters, ie people the live off uploading to YouTube (because there is no real alternative, even though the spigot it being tightened even more tha before) is probably a strategy that will pay off. Not the way they think.
I uplaoders can move to TikTok, maybe it's not worse. Even more since it's the shorts YT are tweaking.

The Register is now banned from all Linux "news" for me. From spreading lies about accessibility and Wayland, promoting dangerous alternatives to upstream software, and recently, and over focusing on the Linux kernel mailing list.
Namely, the people in question are Liam Proven (who has doubled down on misinformation about accessibility on Linux after being confronted by developers) and "veteran technologist" Rupert Goodwins recently accusing Linus of not having a transition plan while not actually interviewing any of the people his speculative "opinion" piece mentions. Nice jab at Red Hat btw. Poorly researched takes and this is made worse by content creators on the prowl for daily content repeating their misinformation.
Both of them have completely lost my respect and need to be ignored by the Linux community until they stop profiting from spreading fear, uncertainty, and false information. Shame on the editors of the Register not doing their due diligence.

We see still a lot of downloads for Blade (apt.izzysoft.de/packages/v.bla…) – despite the app being seemingly abandoned, and issue tracker plus other reports say "Spotify broken", "Deezer broken", "App crashes"…
Anyone here using the app without issues? As it seems to be in higher demand, we hesitate removing it. Though the downloads could just be single-try, fails, delete…
This example makes it clear that download count is a suboptimal metric for app decommissioning: I use more than one app i use regularly but rarely, if at all, receive updates: hence no new downloads.
Can't comment on Blade. I'm with your guess there.
@althavin That's why we don't use download count as sole criterium. It's just one of the numbers going into it. No fixed algorithm either, it has the human part in it, too 😉
