Therefore, GrapheneOS is a (I might say, the only) viable alternative mobile operating system. /e/OS' security standards seem to be lacking in some regards while SailfishOS, to my knowledge, is not open source.

You're recommending people use phones and operating systems without basic privacy and security patches/protections while claiming those are good for privacy. Fairphone, Murena and Jolla are not safe options. To promote their products, both Murena and Jolla heavily mislead people with inaccurate claims about what they provide and about multiple more private/secure options. People buying their products don't get crucial patches but are led to believe they do...

I use Proton for private Mail/Calendar, Infomaniak is in evaluation to replace Office365 at the office and Vivaldi is my default browser. I use Threema for messaging - left WhatsApp long ago, even if some friends still just have the Meta-messenger 🤷♂️
@esoteric_programmer Yes, and because it just works. I know it's accessibility quirks and how to get around them. I have a workflow built entirely off GitHub tooling, and migrating that would be painful. So I don't.
O yeah, I made an issue about accessibility on forgejo. This apparently happens partly because the framework they use for the web ui doesn't implement aria stuff because the devs say it's not their problem, and partly it's also probably something they're doing wrong, but yeah, it's reported now at least

Last February, I did a thing, which I called #Movuary, in which I sequenced a new track (almost) every day of the month of February with my then relatively new Ableton Move groove box.
Most days, I actually tracked a new thing, but a few were previous sequences that got slight touch-ups.
That was a lot of fun, and got me to think about things in ways I otherwise wouldn't, so I think I'll do it again this year.

I'm trying to get it done so I'm not the one holding everyone else up. Happy day. I am getting really burned out on having to do this. I am trying to raise funds to attend the Northwest Percussion Festival this year with my percussion ensemble. With my aid being taken away I have no funding in my college account to make this possible. This years show is especially meaningful to me. I will be performing my original marimba piece, Circles, live for the first time outside of school. The piece has already been published, and this will be its debut performance in front of an audience that isn't made of other college students, which is both exciting and a little surreal. While I am there, I will also be playing with the steel pan group, attending concerts and clinics, and spending time learning from and connecting with other percussionists. This festival is a big opportunity for growth, inspiration, and community. My fundraising goal is open ended. Any amount helps with travel, lodging, registration, and general expenses. Just decided to change a character’s name in a story from Dan to Jeff, so I did a find and replace. Problem is I didn’t think about the fact that Dan did a lot of dancing in the story, so now I’m finding and replacing Jeffce, Jeffced, Jeffces, and Jeffcing.

Gonna say the unpopular bit outloud, but I hate dictation. I hate using it, I hate reading it, it's nearly always so damn stilted, period. Oh wait...
You can tell the blindies that use it 24-7 as well, because their WhatsApp voice messages are more soulless than an AI voice, and they will say punctuation because they forget they can actually talk like a human.
@FreakyFwoof I know exactly where you're coming from there. I haven't used dictation for years, and I'm not going to start again now. Nor am I ever going to put punctuation in a voice message anywhere, which I have actually come across recently on Whatsapp.
@FreakyFwoof When some of my friends send me audio mesages and forget they're not dictating and include punctuation it becomes an occasion for much laughter for us and that always brightens a day. As for standard dictation I always check things after using because i'm just crazy like that.
@robini71 Might be alright in small doses but in self-help groups of hundreds of blind people where you're trying to get to the meat and potato of someone's problem comma, when they speak slowly to make sure there's no errors and forget they don't have to do that comma, it just slows everything down period. Only so many hours in the day exclamation!
@robini71 Not an option. I became the designated go-to for some of those groups, have the highest answer ratio in a few of them and not because I chose to, but because I'm near my phone more than I'm not. My thinking is, if you need help and you come here, it's probably semi-urgent, maybe you have a customer/client and you have a quick turn-around, so I'm there on-hand to answer it nearly always. Like I said I didn't choose this, it just happened. I don't mind that. What I do mind is all of the above.
@FreakyFwoof I'm not in any such groups. I can see where that'd be an issue. My messages are only one on one so a much different environment. I was only speaking to my own use case of course. Those groups sound torturous to me.
@robini71 honestly, when it's mostly quick fixes, they're fine. Not too high traffic either. It's the long 7-minute rambles about nothing, with 25 seconds of problem I have issues with. I don't care that you had to put your phone down to play with your guide dog for 5 minutes, answer the door for two minutes, discuss the weather outside for 3 and a half when the group is about Komplete Kontrol. That is entirely not the point. Either cancel the message and start again, hit the dedicated pause button (that's like, what it's for) or just... Please learn to be concise. lol
@NVAccess@fosstodon.org I'm currently a JAWS user but have heard about NVDA (someone told me the keybinds are the same as Windows Narrator, not sure if that's true) what resources would you recommend to a Windows Screen reader newbie to learn the basics of NVDA? Would the Windows Narrator tutorial suffice, or should I look at something else?

Ok @main @mastoblind @NVAccess got a puzzler for all my #nvda users. So somehow yesterday I managed to bungle my way into where NVDA was acting like it was locked into focus mode everywhere, and could not be brought out of it, received "unsupported input" for single letter nav everywhere, and hotkeys like alt+tab would not register. I ended up having to do a full reset on it to fix the problem.I use #Braille Extender, and full#BrailleDisplay operation. Anyone got a clue what the fuck I did?
For those who wanted a SAPI5 version of NVSpeechPlayer, it is ready. You can install the file from: eurpod.com/synths/NVSpeechSapi… This will install it as both a 32-bit and 64-bit executable file. It will also create a settings program that lets you configure which languages to uncheck from your voices list, this should be in the start menu. The engine should work in both 32-bit and 64-bit programs.

@TomGrant91 Yeah — that looks like a SAPI/COM registration (or bitness) problem, not an NVDA “settings” bug. _ctypes.COMError: (-2147200967, …) is NVDA failing while enumerating SAPI voice tokens (_getVoiceTokens). When someone says “I know I have SAPI voices” but NVDA can’t even list them, the usual culprits are: • Wrong bitness: 32-bit NVDA can only see 32-bit SAPI voices. • Broken SAPI token registry hive (or missing permissions). • Corrupted voice token (one bad token can make enumeration blow up). • SpeechUX works but NVDA doesn’t: often means only 64-bit tokens exist. Try to see if the voices play.. run: C:\windows\syswow64\speech\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl (this is the 32-bit speech panel.) Also you can try running regsvr32 on the dll to see if that fixes it - if it does, I need to check the install script and make sure it does this. for that run: C:\windows\syswow64\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\NVSpeechSapi\x86\NVSpeechSapi.dll" to register the x86, and C:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\NVSpeechSapi\x64\NVSpeechSapi.dll"

@TomGrant91 I remember Jake having a file on his site for Sapi Registry Fix or something similar. Like Sapi Fix. That might actually help you here as it can help re-enumerate the engines you've got installed and recreate the right voice token data in the registry for each.

@Bri @BorrisInABox This is what stereo coiled bop it arcade sounds like. It is, as expected mostly mono content, but a couple of parts are stereo. This is slightly panned right from the daw as it was recorded slightly more left heavy when I recorded this time. I got a score of 68, which is my new personal best. That's great, but also at the same time it's annoying since they set the bonus score on that machine to 75, so if I had just been able to get that few more points, which would have included an even faster speed, I could have gottent eh victory sound. I also figured out when going to record fail states that on level one, they give you up to 2 retry attempts, so that you hopefully don't end up wasting a credit on a poorly played game.
the fact that it give you retry attempts on level means tha i was able to get a snapshot of the music on level one which was mostly clea accept for the voice command at the start, but mvsep took care of removing it.
