If you download your Twitter archive it arrives wrapped as a static HTML page, which is not very useful for doing anything with, and worse: it requires the original account to be still active to do useful things like enlarge the images since they use t.co links.

So here's a Python script to convert a Twitter archive to markdown or other formats: github.com/timhutton/twitter-a…

Now you can archive your tweets in any way you want.

I would like to turn your question on its head. How does a PGP user share an encrypted e-mail with somebody who has limited technical knowledge and little understanding of encryption?
Tutanota allows their users to send an e-mail to anyone and all they need to open it is a pre-shared password and a web browser. They can even reply to it without having a Tutanota account.

Just learned about GridReader, a free tool for Blind programmers that might make it easier to explore complex nested code. My #Python experience is limited to experimenting with the BBC Microbit, and so far i've just set my screen reader to report indentation level. #Blind coders: how do you handle indentation and navigating complex code bases? Does GridReader seem useful? psu.edu/news/information-scien…

@fireborn Probably not that hard, actually. AXTextField and AXTextArea totally expose the content of each line. You can use simple string manipulation to determine the indentation. Indent-beeper did it, actually. Not sure on the license of that code, but you could at least look at it for a general idea. I'm not sure, however, if you get all the lines as an iterator/table, so you can loop over them. Sounds like a good use for Obj-Info :).

That said, I don't really need it on the Mac. In TextMate, the symbols mode on the Rotor lets me fly between functions, and that's typically all I need to do. For those times when I need to do more, though, a Hammerspoon version would be extremely useful

I wrote this three years ago:

“One day, Twitter and other publishing platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Medium will indeed die, like so many sites before them. And every time this happens, we lose most of the content we created and with it a fair amount of our collective cultural history.”

@miki Personal websites also require some semblance of design and development to stand out, and being able to do those tasks is relative privilege. I'd love to lovingly craft my own site but at the same time I'm blind, work in accessibility, and cannot independently verify that it meets my own high visual accessibility standards. If I also hate walled gardens, it's easier to just not write anything.

It's wonderful to see so many new users on BookWyrm and the fediverse! But also overwhelming for a small project like this one.

If you're excited about the project, consider supporting BookWyrm on Patreon:

Please don't use #Fedified! 🙏

This is what it says about itself:

"(Fedified) is *the* way to make sure that you're following the account managed by the same person you used to follow on Twitter."

It wants to be a central authority. This is dangerous, and opposite to what the #Fediverse stands for.

People become dependent on a central authority, then it gets bought out by billionaires.

You can already verify your account on here without using any centralised lists:

Public Money, Public Code 🇪🇺

Why is software created using taxpayers’ money not released as Free Software?

We want legislation requiring that publicly financed software developed for the public sector be made publicly available under a Free and Open Source Software licence. If it is public money, it should be public code as well.

Code paid by the people should be available to the people!

Podcast transcript, Mosen at Large episode 206, Mastering Mastodon, how do you get started with ham radio, and a fix for the Eset issues plaguing screen reader users mosen.org/malp0206transcript/

¡Hola!

Nice to see this article which features @ethanz talking about #disability communities and the challenges with the #MuskMigration in the past few weeks.

time.com/6230469/disability-us…

It definitely won't be easy for #PwD to re-establish their networks. It isn't easy for anyone.

Yet, this is a service which ultimately may fail with the new management. Moving to a decentralized, open source, federated response may be necessary.

Hi! time for a proper #introduction. I’m David and I’ve been working as indiedev for the past ~12 years, I made a few games for a variety of platforms, I like coding my own frameworks but lately also been using Unity and GameMaker for contract work and it’s always cool to learn new stuff. Sometimes I like coding experiments for older hardware like Gameboy and Dreamcast.

fediblock: PinkSheep.org

A new instance recently sprung up advertising itself as queer, sex worker friendly, and body positive, but it displays a number of flagrant red flags that merit distrust.

1. PinkSheep dot org uses Soapbox, a fork of Pleroma made by notorious TERF Alex Gleason.
2. Its TOS offers no indication that the admin has researched the legal challenges involved in making a sex-worker-safe space.
3. Its federated timeline, visible at /timeline/fediverse, includes posts from toxic shitposting instances such as refusal.biz - content warning: rape joke pinksheep.org/@rats@refusal.bi…

The latest episode of my #Podcast, @MosenAtLarge, has nearly an hour discussing how #Blind people like me use Mastodon and how to get started. I discuss some MastoDos and MastoDon'ts in general and focus on #accessibility on several platforms including the web interface, #Pinafore, and #Metatext. It's in any podcast app. The #audio is at mosenatlarge.pinecast.co/episo…. The #transcript is at mosen.org/malp0206transcript/
Hope blind people find it helpful and sighted people find it interesting.

Yep that design is a huge mixed bag. That’s why I have 3 accounts so far. 1 is literally because I can’t follow everyone from my personal account. That’s what I ended up doing. It didn’t make sense after a few days, for spam reasonings.

For those interested, I have been writing some code to add mastodon support to TWBlue. Ideally, this should enable TWBlue to use most features already present in the client for Mastodon instances as well. I have done a pull request in TWBlue's source code repository which you can read at github.com/MCV-Software/TWBlue…. Once the 46 tasks defined there are almost done, I'll be merging this in the next-gen branch and will probably generate a version that can be tested. You can follow @twblue for more info

Did I already point out how cool the mastodon-archive tool is? I just had to post a follow-up to a toot from several days ago. But how to find it? Pick the next best open terminal window, type "mastosearch <searchTerm>" – et voila, less than a second later I have it, thanks to my daily cron-driven-updated archive :awesome:

Thanks @kensanata 😍

Still not a single volunteer to give the RPM or DEB package of the great mastodon-archive tool a try and report back?

github.com/kensanata/mastodon-…

(note that if you had one of the first 2 installed, you need to uninstall that first as the package was renamed from mastodon-backup to mastodon-archive – which was done for consistency)

in reply to IzzyOnDroid ✅

RPM and DEB works.
Consider adding:
Vcs-Git: github.com/kensanata/mastodon-…
Into CONTROL aswell :)
in reply to 𝚜𝚎𝚕𝚎𝚊

@selea seems to be similar with RMP. In one docu I found a "VCS:" field mentioned but not described (in the block with source details), no other reference so far (so I do not even know the syntax; the URL alone would not do, one would need the protocol as well). So unleyy someone can tell me, I'd rather go without. URL to the repo is provided, so 🤷‍♂️
in reply to Brent Ashley

@bashley Yupp, expected behaviour on 20.04. Check in /usr/share/doc/mastodon-archive/contrib (the Readme gives you some background) to run upgrade_python-mastodon.sh as root. 20.04 ships a too old version of the Mastodon.py – that script replaces the corresponding files from PyPi.

We decided to not depend on a specific version to not lock folks out, but rather provide this helper. If you got no hint, please open an issue so it can be added. Thanks!
