So, hold on a minute...the actual president, Biden, says he will not enforce the TikTok ban, yet TikTok goes dark for a day anyway.

TikTok's error message says don't worry, the guy who is NOT president yet, Trump, will restore it soon.

TikTok comes back up after a day, while the actual president, Biden, is still in office.

TikTok's greeting message says hooray, thanks for bringing us back, guy who is NOT president yet, Trump!

...How does this even work, again? And why are Americans so ignorant that they'll buy it? 😒 #uspol #politics

I've been watching the ways in which search engines have integrated large language models into their results, and the results are just as bad as you would expect. #misinformation #disinformation #homophobia #transphobia

Monday.
Another cold start to the week. Even if it is going up to 5 today, it doesn't flippin' feel like it.

Medically I am just not there, either. My head's not been in the game. I Normally suffer with 3 day migraines, and although I've been medicating to get through the weekend it's been a struggle. I'm on the tail-end, now, but I'd still far rather be in bed!

Nothing outstanding this week to shout about. A couple of online things post-work tonight and Wednesday, The Djokovic Alcaraz quarterfinal on Wednesday morning, actually playing tennis after work on Thursday.
The shape of a typical but slightly slow-starting week.

"We'll send you job listings based on your resume and/or your saved searches."
This line in the email of one of my job platforms should probably replace and/or with just or. I uploaded my resume, and not only did it not recognize I had a recurring search going but... it wildly misread my resume. No, I am not an account executive. Nothing on my resume says account executive. Knock that off.
So now, let's see what happens when I nuke the resume from orbit. Do what I pay you for, damn you.
Have I mentioned the only thing worse than job searching is being unemployed? Because this.

@tardis You can't import stuff into either LinkedIn or Indeed, but most of the time it's pretty much a copy/paste. Both LinkedIn and Indeed are basically a copy of the manual resume I have. And I do that for a couple reasons. First, because on LinkedIn you can then discover and network with people you work with (I still talk to a few people from my old job that way), and second, because both platforms let you apply for jobs directly from there.

Oh but I do! I am evil. There are some cool places in EU even I haven't visited, and I do need travel buddies. Nothing else, just the friendship of a good person, with whom we can just walk around, talk, have good coffee with, and enjoy places. I want too much, I know. LOL. In this day and age, people get together for one thing and that one thing, to me, meh, no thanks. So yeah, I wanna have a travel friend for the travels and good moments. Haha.
in reply to Winter blue tardis🇧🇬🇭🇺

@tardis Hey, I'd be your partner in travel. I'd probably never be home except that 1: I can't afford that and 2: I'd be the only one leaving. But, like, I spent a week in Munich back when people were paying me. In fact I was being paid to be there and it was with a bunch of my coworkers. So I mean, just say when and where and let's see what happens. This... is also why I've taken to also looking for remote jobs. The more remote the job, the less the employer cares whether I work from my living room in Ottawa or a hotel room in Italy.

At this year's #FOSDEM my team at #wolfSSL got no booth space so my large volume #curl sticker distribution (LVCSD) has to be done using other means.

The LVCSD will most likely happen in the cafeteria area, but feel free to ping me if you can't get your fix as planned.

I will bring thousands of curl stickers and hundreds of coasters. There will be a few mugs and maybe some tshirts.

Buying myself friends, like a boss.

On this day four years ago, I handed over svn.haxx.se to the #Subversion project and my two decades of hosting a mailing list archive for the project was over:

LibreOffice is the privacy-oriented office suite and doesn't include AI out-of-the-box. No way. But some people find AI tools useful, so a community member has made a (fully optional!) extension to add these features if you want them: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl…

Hello #blind #MacOS users. Question from my partner @LaurenCeleste again. How do you create a shortcut to a website on the desktop? Every guide I can find says simply select the text in the address bar and drag it to the desktop. But how do you do this with VO? I know it has drag and drop and the gestures for that, but doesn't cmd+tab ruin any positioning, which you need to do to get the VO cursor from safari to the finder in order to drag something to the desktop? Is there some way to move the VO cursor between windows while setting up a multi-window D&D that I missed? Or an easier way to create a web shortcut (.webloc) accessibly? @FreakyFwoof @pitermach @masonasons @TheQuinbox

A main technical and economic difference to #matrix servers/clients:
The family of #deltachat apps uses #chatmail servers as ephemeral message transports that know nothing and forget everything: Servers don't store group metadata or cryptographic identities and delete messages after download by default. In effect, a 30EUR/month #chatmail server with 10K's of active users hums along with 2% IO and CPU pressure, 1GB RAM and negligible disk usage. No Pro-version or Kubernetes needed to scale ;)

Just finished the latest book by Richard Powers called "The Playground". Wow, if you are into #ai #philosophy and good fiction, you may want to read this as well... Those of you who read his earlier "The Overstory" may guess what you would be signing up for. His writing and snorytelling is absolutely amazing! #literature audible.com/pd/B0D3WKKT9B?sour…

This is probably already known by most fans of Star Trek and Doctor Who but I just learned that David McIntee passed away last month. I remember him at one of the Gallifrey conventions and he was quite enjoyable. I so far haven't read any of his books but I definitely plan to do so.

David A. McIntee has passed away.

Getting ready for my last night in this United States. Because, whatever we get after tomorrow's event, it won't be the USA that any of us, I suspect, are used to. I won't call it America, because that just casually disregards Canada, Mexico, and all of South and Central America and I get really mad when people just call this country America. I sispecpt Canadians, Mexicans, and all of Latin America probably aren't huge fans of it, either. Either way, the next little while and beyond is going to be rough. Buckle up, hold on, and resist what you can where you can!! Here we go. :(

Tomorrow will be a dark day for many.

For disabled, marginalized, LGBTQ+ folks & women. For anyone who still cares about others

The disability community saw this coming. It’s important we listen & understand that labelling people as expendable for 5 years leads nowhere good

Since November we’ve watched hate win over and over again.

We’ve witnessed the emboldening of those who think they’re superior to others.

We’ve seen an increase in misogyny, bigotry, ableism, racism & discrimination.

Disabled people begged the Left to pay attention. We begged you to keep masking, to push for clean air, to demand accountability from government.

We implored you to realize that our lives are not less important than your ability to go out for brunch.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people on both sides of the aisle decided that mitigating COVID was “too hard.”

They accepted repeat infections as inevitable so they wouldn’t have to adapt their lives in any way.

They threw away people like me.

We let hate win. And now we’re going to see the consequences of that decision.

Disabled people weren’t surprised in November, we’ve been living in what feels like an alternate reality for years.

But I suspect others are about to feel our pain.

If you’re feeling scared or angry right now, know that you’re not alone. There’s a community standing with you.

I don’t know exactly what comes next, but I do know we have to keep up the fight.
