While K-9 Mail is developed in the open, following its development on GitHub can be somewhat tedious for a casual observer. So we’re trying something new and summarizing the most notable things that happened in the past month as we head down the exciting road to Thunderbird for Android!
In this ongoing series of conversations, we introduce you to the people behind the software you use every day.

just seems like Thunderbird has evolved more in the last year than it has in the last 10. Loving it and a daily #thunderbird user with all my email accounts “unified.”
The Thunderbird community is constantly submitting feature ideas to improve Thunderbird.

Pencils and pens look very old as well. That's because they dither very slightly around an evolved functional shape that happens to be quite simple.
I'm glad that I can choose whether to "enjoy" having the shape of my tools arbitrarily rearranged. I don't need to have scrollbars shrunk, whitespace added, tail fins, uncomfortably skinny jeans, optical function of glasses shrunk, etc.
But even so, please don't confuse fashion accessories with tools, #Thunderbird
Some of these talking points might be divisive. They might touch a nerve. But we believe in being transparent and open about both our past and our future.

I'm a user of both #Thunderbird and #Audacity and I agree - great products. Audacity has been indispensable for digitizing my LP collection (for personal use only, of course).
On a personal note, as the person running this account, it's especially awesome to see #Audacity on the list -- that was my first introduction to #FOSS in 2001.

#Thunderbird 3.0 also saw the debut of the Add-ons Manager (but in very, very beta form), letting you extend the functionality and visual look of Thunderbird with themes and new features.
Plus, it introduced tabbed email view, new account setup wizard, and... wait for it... auto-downloading of IMAP folders! 😀

Released on December 8, 2009, v3.0 introduced a Migration Assistant to let you easily activate new features (like Smart Folders and a redesigned Toolbar) or stick with the old ones.

Floating compose button in K-9 Mail beta. Behavior is the best of any of these floating buttons that I've seen (I like that we have an extra line when you get to the bottom so it doesn't cover any content).

PSA: We're aware of an issue affecting #Thunderbird users using #IMAP to connect to certain #Microsoft account servers (for example: outlook.office365.com).
These users are receiving an error message that says "User is authenticated but not connected."
We believe this is caused by Microsoft running certain services with broken #IPv6 functionality.
WORKAROUND: Disable IPv6 networking in Thunderbird's advanced config.
