It‘s 2024 and CRLs are the hot technology for managing certificate revocations.

I lived too long.😌

this was meant to be a DM to myself to shame me into getting another strand when i reach the end of the floss.

sorry i’m just obsessed with this particular emote from the Frieren pack. it’s so perfect.

I can't tell what I had for lunch yesterday and I will 100% forget anything with no deadline attached or involving filling in a form.

But if we are having a conversation about a niche topic, bug, or thorny socio technical challenges you bet I am able to remember and produce a link to a GH issue, blog post, forum discussion or research paper almost right there and then.
Thank you #ADHD

I can hardly find the words to express how I feel, but I am immensely proud. Today marks the one-year anniversary since I launched Accessible Android. It feels like time has flown by as we celebrate everything the community has achieved. I want to thank everyone who has supported me on this beautiful journey with their encouraging words. A special thanks to my team, whom I've never met personally, but who believed in me and stood by my side to make our dream a reality together @Kareen_k @amir

We need to go back to putting programs on cartridges. If you want to do accounting you would need to turn off your computer, pull out the internet cartridge and shove in a different one.

If it crashes and you lose your work you could then call a special phone number listed in a magazine ad and talk to a teenager who will tell you to take Excel out and blow on it and try again.

There are no downsides to this proposal.

Can someone give advice on making some HTML code for a "Share on Mastodon" button to be placed on a website or blog?

I know we've had a thread about this before, but there was some disagreement over best solution. Would be interesting to hear latest thoughts on this!

(Asking as @heidilifeldman is in need of this code! 🙂 "I need code that creates a button and takes people to a URL from which to share.")

this sounds complicated, because surely it's very much instance dependent?

How many skip links is too many? Is it useful to have skip links to each of the main functions within a page, eg more than just to 'content', or is it best to try and be conservative in amount?
in reply to Hidde

There isn’t a universal answer. Use keyboard nav on your own page and see what feels right. Often the answer isn’t reducing the number of skip links, but reducing the number of navigation widgets.

Most times, more than 2 skip-links is a design smell that points somewhere deeper than skip links themselves.

I have now spent over half my life in the company of @missunderstood. It is a long time for her to put up with me, but she's done a wonderful job. I am a lucky man. Through thick and thin (and much fattening due to her delightful cooking), we've been through a lot together.

in reply to Sean Randall

Aw, that's lovely! Is it your anniversary, cos if it is, have a happy one. If it isn't, what you said was just as special, if not more.
in reply to Lulu Hartgen

@lulu_bear it is, not wedding but when we just decided, together that we'd try and make something, together. A magical moment. :)
in reply to Sean Randall

Congratulations! May you have many more happy years together!

Destructatron OS 2.0 has just been installed! No more teenage years I guess, that went quicker than I thought it would.

Derek attributes his experience with NVDA instrumental to his career success and since working at Google has found numerous ways to improve accessibility, both internally and externally.

GitHub has released an insightful article to accompany the documentary shared earlier showcasing NVDA, OSARA, & REAPER. The article interviews NVDA co-founders, Mick Curran & Jamie Teh, as well as Derek Riemer, who has used NVDA since 2011. Derek has contributed to NVDA itself & written over 20 add-ons. He also now works as a software engineer at Google.

Interesting how being vegetarian is in general more accepted/respected by other folks than trying not to fly too often.

because mastodon.social obviously is the mastodon server with the worst funding and it's definitely not small instances that could need some more money to pay for infrastructure, moderators, etc /s

just call your app mastodon.social if you want it to be a mastodon.social client, jesus christ. it's almost as if mastodon isn't even meant to be a federated server software

@ludiofines Hi there, you can send encrypted emails to Gmail and other platforms by sharing a password with that recipient. They will receive an email to their Gmail account which includes a link to an encrypted Tuta mailbox where they can use the password to view your message.

We recommend sharing these passwords via an encrypted messaging application like Signal.

in reply to Tuta

Then I need to get another channel of communication to 'securely' transmit this password to read this email. And of course I don't mention that this link has to be read via a web browser which is another hornet nest. Frankly I don't see how that's is less complicated than exchanging gpg keys with my party where i don't need additional channels which, by the way, was tagged as difficult in the video.

hahaha For my curiosity, I got llama-3.1-405B-Q2_K to run on my mac with m3 Max 64GB. The model size is about 151GB, and I could offload 47 out of 127 layers to GPU. The problem is it takes more than 2 minutes (139 seconds) to generate one token. lol #LLM #ML #AI @vick21 @ZBennoui

This is as good a time as any to remind folks that Donald Trump demanded the braille be removed from the Trump Tower elevators, because he didn’t want blind people to stay there. Based! archpaper.com/2018/09/trump-to… (previous link was paywalled)

Hey peeps, I loved Google domains but I'm super skeptical of squarespace.

What's an actual good solid, just handles domains and doesn't mess around domain registrar these days?

No far right wing / elephant killers plz.

in reply to Matt Linton :donor:

@alcinnz I use joker.com - they just do domain registration and (optionally) host the DNS records if you want.

Oh look at this
Image/photo
So automattic/Tumblr's CEO is making the company email servers to redirect all mail from teamblind.com to his own personal address instead of the actual person who registered to Blind, so he can know who signed up using their corporate email (the only way to sign up).

Not only that, but by doing this, he could just go through the company email address list, hit the "forgot your password" link, and find out who already has an account, and even steal it.

Very sane, not creepy, absolutely not sociopath move, sire. Absolutely normal and not crazy maniac behavior.

Besides Shokz Bone Conduction (which you can’t hear in noisy environments), and AirPods Pro (which you can lose but work fine in noisy environments), has anyone found any other solutions that work?
in reply to DAVID WOODBRIDGE

I've heard from a friend that the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses work quite well for Bluetooth audio, but whether you want to use those is of course subject to many other factors. Certainly, the audio quality from the microphones on his glasses when on a call with him seems to be pretty decent.

One of the biggest security expertise redpills is this is unironically a good idea and the time spent making fun of it was ill-advised for most users whose physical security threat is not a factor in comparison.
