The house is coming together well though. The first of the sofas appeared yesterday, we put the curtains up this morning and the carpets are all down and lovely underfoot. The window sills have all been painted and varnished, the French doors are sealed and watertight (a good thing with a storm blowing in), and I've just finished re-seating all the electrical wall outlets and light switches now the paint's all dry.
The baby's changing unit remains to be assembled, but the crib and car seat are ready. We just need a baby now. Daily CTG's are strong. Baby's moving well internally. Things just, have yet to go pop!

@dhamlinmusic not typical, but they wanted to induce labour early due to diabetes. They tried, but before we got to the water-breaking stage there was a mad influx of emergency sections (they've had over 500 deliveries in September). On our second morning there they had 14 cases booked to come in for induction, and 10 of their 10 beds were already full from previous inductees who hadn't moved on. We've just had the call up now to go in for the Amniotomy in a few hours.

I'm seeing a number of posts about folk thinking of leaving #AndroidDev due to Googles policy changes.
For clarity I left the #Android world this year, and largely for those reasons.
I bought a T-Mobile G1 on the first day. I've built SDKs and firmware for Android, I have commits in the AOSP. I built (and sold) an app store in the early days. I also worked on the Android team at Google for a while.
Android, to me, is now a Google product. Not the open platform it was.
Encountered my first elevator wit a digital queueing system. You press an accessibility button on a touchscreen, then hear all the floor numbers from highest to lowest read back to you. Once it mentions the floor you want to go to, you press the accessibility button again, hoping that while searching for the accessibility button, you don't touch the screen, because it triggers a floor call randomly to the floor you touched on the screen. Back to hearing all the floor numbers again. The floors are read out very slowly, about 1,5 seconds per floor. If you miss your number, you need to start again. I wanted to go to floor 2 in a 15 floor building. I encountered a lot of annoyed people who were waiting behind me to also call the lift. The spoken prompts were translated wrong to Estonian, so it was hard to understand what they actually meant. THe narrator spoke extremelly slowly and with a tone you'd use with a child, who has drawn on a wall with crayons, for the 5th time. Slowly, patronisingly. Hugely embarrassing experience.
Yes all that. I'm surprised they read out highest to lowest, all the ones I have used go from lowest to highest. Also in your office do you have multiple touchscreens? In the ones I have used there have been plenty of screens available for others to choose the floor. People still try and help though and will sometimes cancel it by touching the screen so I have to try and cover up the screen so it is less likely to happen.

(Also, in response to a couple of questions: - The keystroke for image captioning is NVDA+Windows+comma - And yes, you can setup the new alpha as a portable copy rather than installing it).
If 64-bit has indeed hit the alpha channel, you will want to uninstall any NVDA you have on the machine. 32 and 64 install two different directories and different registry locations, and so you may have both on the machine at once if you don’t uninstall first. Your user config will persist.
That's really neat! I don't know what you're using for image descriptions, but 230MB feels small. For those with a lot of room to spare, could there be an option for a larger model? I guess communicating the increased system resources needed to make use of such a model could be a UX challenge.
Great, but NVDA+Windows+,? This is not a good choice IMO, and something better like SHIFT+NVDA+G could have been used. TTS engines don't announce the comma in NVDA+Windows+, either.

@SirMars @morganlynn1992 Re AI image description & add-ons, there are already a few - some have been available and in developement since at least 2019. So, if you don't like what we're trying out, you can definitely keep using the existing add-ons (well, noting that they won't currently work with 64-bit NVDA at this time, but that's just because of where we are in the cycle - those add-ons work with NVDA 2025.3 and will work with 2026.1 by the time it comes out)

Saying to a man 'Those trousers make your bum look saggy' is harsh, but is likely way more acceptable than saying that same thing to a woman. 'That t-shirt makes you look terrible, definitely want to change that' is equally passable in one direction but not the other.
In our case we simply don't have the need to speak to one another in this fashion to begin with, but many seemingly do. Our particular double-standards come from raising both a boy and a girl. We allowed our son to go off by himself earlier with less fear and concern as parents, but not so with our daughter. Are you parents with children of a similar age to one another? Do you worry about them going off on their own? Do you treat them differently, sometimes without realising it?

In this episode Kirsten delves into an article in which a woman expects princess treatment from her husband in restaurants or whenever they're out together as a couple. From ordering her food, to tying her shoelaces, nothing is seemingly off the table. Our opinion is that this behaviour somewhat infantalises a person, and allows them to avoid adult responsibilities in these situations. The couple have children as well, so if this is also continued in the home, it becomes normalised and thus the children may expect it from their partners when older.

We discuss what would cause us to be jealous in our relationship, explain reasons why it doesn't really apply, but also how it may become a problem if the right conditions were ever reached.
Some information from the article: The idea of the lie detector test came after Steve made a passing comment about not having done anything wrong, and would "even take a lie detector to prove it," which spurred his wife to make a purchase. In this episode we discuss ways in which we as parents do our best to set good examples for our children. From not swearing or arguing, to behaving kindly to one another, we think that good manners cost nothing but a little time.
Kirsten was on a bus and noticed an angry woman swearing at the bus driver in front of her teen-age sun which sparked this episode. For one thing it's bad manners and for another, it sets a terrible example for that child. By doing so, the mother normalises that behaviour and it may make the child think that it's also okay to do the same things under the same circumstances.

In this episode we discuss a video in which a man complains about his partner wearing heels to a party. He feels emasculated, and demands that his now x-girlfriend not go out in heels as it makes her taller than he is. Kirsten and Andre both decided this is a red flag and partners should not attempt to control what the other is wearing unless there is a compelling reason to do so, such as Andre going out in mismatched clothing by mistake, since he cannot see what colours are likely to clash with one another.
