#ChatControl must never come back. 💪
❌ Breaks encryption
❌ Destroys privacy
This would make free discussion online impossible, create a backdoor for abusers and authoritarian regimes, and endanger journalists & activists.

As we speak, the EU is debating a law called "Chat Control". For now, the vote on Chat Control has been postponed, but should this law pass - what would it mean for your security and privacy? At first glance, it's about combating child abuse on the …Tuta | Invidious
Apple bent the knee for months, leaving many commentators to ask why. But the reasons are not mysterious: Apple wants things that only the government can provide, things that will defend and extend its power to extract rents, rather than innovate.Alex Russell

I chat with Joshua Rogers about a blog post he wrote as well as some bugs he submitted to the curl project. Joshua explains how he went searching for some AI tools to help find security bugs, and found out they can work, if you’re a competent human.Josh Bressers (Open Source Security)

The false positive/we don't care rate went up significantly when the scan included tests and examples. We should simply exclude those parts from normal scans as they live by different rules.
Never a dull moment.
(See how I cleverly did not mention AI in the title!) You know we have seen more than our fair share of slop reports sent to the curl project so it seems only fair that I also write something about the state of AI when we get to enjoy some positive a…daniel.haxx.se
Okay, so not even done reading this, and I guess I'm a bit behind. ISTR reading you venting about the endless AI generated reports that went absolutely nowhere. I guess they finally started hitting paydirt.
I do _not_ pay good attention to my social media timeline. So, I am sure you posted this before and I totally did not see it.

Now free for all to read... Imagine a family living in 1980s Bulgaria. They're the Petrovi family: father Plamen, mother Elena, and son Boyan. I say "imagine", for the Petrovis aren't real; they're a fictional family created to illustrate life in 1980s Sofia, the Bulgarian capital - and they live in the so-called Red Flat:

Just tried adding a friend on #XMPP. Turned out, my desktop client of choice (Psi) was too old to support OMEMO, which is apparently the cool new way to do encrypted chats. Had to open Converse.js in the browser while I moved shop to Psi Plus, and got an earful about it. Half the morning went up in smoke.
Dear nerds: that's why nobody loves us.
If you're curious, here are 158 of Joshua's reported issues on #curl to give you an idea what we talk about.
We have manually gone trough them all and dismissed or addressed them. None of them has been deemed a security problem. Not all the PRs for the valid problems have been merged yet.

Nvidia’s Shocking Cutoff: GTX 1060 and Windows 10 Support Ends Soon!
The Beginning of the End for Beloved Graphics Cards and a Trusted OS In a move that signals the closing chapter for an entire era of gaming hardware and software, Nvidia has announced a critical update for Windows 10 users and owners of its GTX 10 and 900 series graphics cards. While there's a short-term reprieve, the long-term future looks uncertain for gamers who haven’t upgraded their GPU or OS.
Libervia CLI Tip 11:
Libervia automatically caches pubsub nodes you are subscribed to.
You can control it with the `li pubsub cache` commands.
The search capabilities are really powerful, with full-text search and many filters.
You can find items across profiles, within a time frame, or on any field of parsed data.
You can show whole items or specific data (e.g., title/author/tags of forum posts within a time frame).
I've reached 60 subscribers on my YouTube channel‼️✨ 🕺💥📈
It's a weirdly satisfying number, and I can't explain why, and I am glad it's just for fun and not about numbers and $$hit.
(Please don't unsubscribe just to spite me, let me have this one 😄)

in reply to Mikołaj Hołysz • • •@matt Also keyboard shortcuts, you have to be careful about using command instead of control and all that, yet be aware of which shortcuts are taken over by the system and need to be re-mapped.
The menu under the application name is another thing worth keeping in mind. Options that Windows would typically keep under "file", like Preferences (yes they're preferences and not settings, yes the shortcut is cmd + comma, no it is not anything else) should go under the application menu. Same for Options like "quit" (and that is the terminology to be used, we don't like "exit" or "close program" in this part of the woods). Text fields are another issue, the default behavior of Mac OS Text fields is to be compatible with the system autocorrect, which WX seems to override.
There's probably a bunch more stuff I just got used to.
Also yes, if you want to provide a decent UX to Mac users, that'll be $100 please. Running apps without notarization is getting harder and harder every year.

E.g. In a "name playlist" dialog, the label should be "add", not ok.
