"Facebook snooped on users’ Snapchat traffic in secret project, documents reveal"

Fun fact: A trip down memory lane: When Hungarian as a voice was added to ESpeak, I was a 15-16 year old kid in high school, and reached out to Jonathan Duddington directly thinking I wouldn't get a response back. Not only did he respond, but he used my recordings of Hungarian text read out to create that voice. Since then other Hungarians have shaped the phonemes, but that story will live down in my mind as a good one. That and I got to talk with Jonathan Duddington, like how cool it was.

Security firm ReversingLabs has discovered a malicious .NET library on the official NuGet repository.

The package contains code to take screenshots of the infected system every minute and upload the data to a remote server.

ReversingLabs says the library appears to target developers who work with industrial software from Chinese company Bozhon.

What I really like about #GNOME46 is that it turned out to be a great release for old and low-end devices. One of my test devices is Thinkpad T400. That hardware is over 15 years old and actually got faster over the last few years - especially this release.

One of my favorite improvements here, headed by Christian Hergert, was the boost to VTE. Terminals using #gtk4 are now much faster and responsive. I mean, damn, even switching tabs doesn't trigger a full redraw!

@Seirdy When it comes to the web I must agree - even though that device probably has H264 decoding - and you can force websites like youtube to use that via extensions like (enhanced-)h264ify (and on yt specifically disabling ambient mode helps a lot here).

I also would like to point out that I came to enjoy a bunch of native apps more and more. Such as Shortwave, (Gnome-)Podcasts, Fractal, Tuba etc.

@kjw810 @technocounselor I'm willing to pay the subscription. VDR is an app that I use almost daily for accessing Bookshare content, text files that I download from the Internet Archive as well as mp3 audios. If there is an app that can handle MP3 files along with easily importing Bookshare content, text files along with Word documents I'd certainly be opening to trying it. I would just like to see VDR engaging in more frequent communication with the community it's trying to serve.
in reply to Tanya Harrison

@WirlOfWirls @Thomas_domville After the latest VDR update I now see a slightly more accessible Subscriptions dialog. I was unable to close the dialog, however, and I got caught into a focus trap where I was unable to leave it and had to force-quit the app. They said they added this due to my feedback which I appreciated. I did reply back informing them of the challenges which were still present but they at least are responding to emails and are trying to make things right. I'm not saying they have had a perfect track record but they're not ignoring me and are responding rather quickly to my emails. They do seem to be open to receiving feedback from us and I think they're taking us seriously. Personally, in spite of their missteps I plan to subscribe as this is an app which, for the most part, has worked very reliably for me for years and I want to continue using it.
in reply to Tanya Harrison

@WirlOfWirls @Thomas_domville I've been working with both Easy Reader and Speech Central but neither of those apps seems to support importing MP3 files and Easy Reader can't open Word files. I also found the importing of files from the iOS Files app into Easy Reader to be unintuitive. I don't want to have to struggle figuring out how to import books into my book player. I just want an easy, intuitive way to do it and VDR does this to my satisfaction. Because of this and the fact that it supports so many file formats, including remembering my place in an MP3 file, I am choosing to subscribe and pay the $60.00 a year. Am I gladly doing it? Not necessarily but I'll do it because of the app's flexibility and ease of use. Years ago I never thought I'd be paying a subscription for my screen reader or for my word processor but I'm willing to do so and I'm equally willing to subscribe to VDR.

I enjoy the sound of the shamisen, it helps lower my anxiety sometimes. This piece was inspired by that feeling😌🌸

Okay, we're going a bit classical and literal for #TuneTuesday today and the #SongBaton theme. 🏃

Let's start with some 16th century polyphony! songwhip.com/new-york-polyphon…

And pass that tune along 3+ centuries later to Ralph Vaughan Williams who makes the lush Tallis Fantasia: songwhip.com/ralphvaughanwilli…

And we'd love to pass this baton to our community AND any other open source project reading this! Musical interludes are good for everyone. 🎧

Israel, Gaza, violations of international humanitarian law.

I strongly recommend reading the Report of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967. It's thoroughly documented and grounded in International Humanitarian Law, and it makes a powerful and substantiated case that there is an ongoing genocide in Gaza. Of special note is the treatment of Israel's (mis)use of IHL concepts such as human shields on paras 61 et seq. It's a legal document and inevitably refers to horrifying events, but if you can handle that, it is extremely informative.

Summary:
After five months of military operations, Israel has destroyed Gaza. Over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, including more than 13,000 children. Over 12,000 are presumed dead and 71,000 injured, many with life-changing mutilations. Seventy percent of residential areas have been destroyed. Eighty percent of the whole population has been forcibly displaced. Thousands of families have lost loved ones or have been wiped out. Many could not bury and mourn their relatives, forced instead to leave their bodies decomposing in homes, in the street or under the rubble. Thousands have been detained and systematically subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment. The incalculable collective trauma will be experienced for generations to come.
By analysing the patterns of violence and Israel’s policies in its onslaught on Gaza, this report concludes that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating Israel’s commission of genocide is met. One of the key findings is that Israel's executive and military leadership and soldiers have intentionally distorted jus in bello principles, subverting their protective functions, in an attempt to legitimize genocidal violence against the Palestinian people.

After upgrading to #WirePlumber 0.5.0 I ended up without any sound outputs.
I had to manually remove configs from ~/.local/state/{pipewire|wireplumber} and ~/.config/pipewire to get it working again.
This is not how usable system should do migration to the new version.
