Brrr... new introduction time cause my old one is already outdated lol.

I am Sinclair-Speccy, your local resident computer nerd that can’t actually do a lot of tech stuff like people think. My primary interests are #Linux, #OldTech, and #OStan. You’ll usually find me boosting retro tech content and occasionally posting it myself, mostly retro tech ads.

My interest in emulation all started when I managed to run Yggdrasil Linux from the '90s (I know, so interesting /s). Despite having used XP as my first OS other older OSes (mostly Linux ones) interest me more if you look at the media I've posted on my account besides the tech ads.

I’ve moved around a bit online as I started on .art as my friend was there, then bitbang.social and now oldbytes.space.

One of my favourite niche fandoms is OS-tans which is turning operating systems and hardware into anime characters, though I tend to call them tech gijinkas. I even have my own tech gijinkas universe that is hosted on my site.

As for some other stuff I enjoy #mythology, #transformers, #cats, #fantasy, #nature such as #flowers and #plants and #animals, #steampunk, #starwars, #photography, #art, #space, #cyberpunk and #scifi... there is more but I'm not writing them all.

You can check out my website here: sinclair-speccy.github.io/The-… and I hope to expand it into a tech journalism platform or something, though motivation and its static nature kind of stop me...

Unlike in the past I'm not active as I used to be, sadly.

Halfway through this Canadian SF anthology and every short story/poem so far has been great. Highly recommend, available from Bakka Phoenix Books dot com on Harbord or fine booksellers near you. @pluralistic has a contribution as well :) #Canadian #Toronto #SF #CurrentlyReading #SciFi #Fantasy

What's up with my #reading habits lately?

Me: "I'd really like some #fantasy or #scifi comfort food. Nothing complex; maybe something cozy or slice of life, or a power fantasy where the good guys always win. I'd love that."

Me, a few hours later: "Hey! This #book was just a predictable power fantasy where the good guys always win! It was overly simple slice of life, and the conflict was low stakes. I hated that!"

It's gotten to the point where I haven't rated the last few #books I've read, because "2 stars: was exactly what I asked for!" just seems like an unfair review.

Anyway, authors: please figure out what I actually want to read and write that, then advertise it to me as what I think I want to read. Because book marketing isn't hard enough for you, right? Thanks! #bookstodon

Each ivory rose glistened sweetly in the twilight, each petal as perfect as porcelain.

Little white butterflies flitted through the last strands of fading light, dancing on tender, tantalizing scents.

The Gardener packed up their gear, secretly smiling as a rival hid poorly behind the old oak, straightening the "Beware The Thorns" sign as they headed inside.

The next morning the blooms were exceptionally voluptuous, and for now, satiated.

Alternatively, for a similarly low price, you can get the series that got me into Dave's writing in the first place.
The "world of the Goddess" as they call it in the book, or the seventh sword series, as it's known, is a typical portal fantasy (although I didn't really know the term when it was written).

the protagonist, Wallie Smith, a man from our world, finds his consciousness transferred into the body of a barbarian swordsman in a completely different world.
In the classic "fish out of water" narrative, he must navigate the rules, customs, and dangers of the new world. Wallie Smith's journey epitomizes this, as the mild-mannered earthling is suddenly thrust into a society governed by a goddess and a rigid code of swordsmanship.

The twist is great, too. It's one of those utterly fantastic revelations that you had all the material to work out for yourself, so perhaps you will.

The 4th book was written years after the first 3 and is as much an homage to the fans as another story, so if you're going in fresh, enjoy the trilogy as a unit first.

My omnibus copy omited the preface when I bought it, so be wary of that. I did report it to the publisher, so hopefully they fixed it.

For only £2.39 on Kindle at the moment in the UK, you can get all 4 of the Man of His Word fantasy books.
Nearly 1,800 pages of escapism which enthralled me greatly the first time I read it. I've been back a handful of times, too.

It's light (but moving), entertaining YA fantasy. The good guys are good, the bad guys are bad, and there's not a lot of grey area. It is a bit heavy on the traditional gender roles, Inos is a princess but she's not helplessly waiting to be rescued, and while Rap is the strong commoner, he's not always right, or always doing the rescuing. They're genuine (if young and not overly complex) people.
It's clever, diversionary fantasy with a rich magic system. The sequel is just as good too, which is rare.
