I found a clip of me, age twelve, and ran it through an Eleven Labs voice I made last week, when my voice was mmuch deeper than usual. I used speech-to-speech to super-impose the characteristics of twelve-year-old me against current me, 28 years later. So, this is perhaps what I might have sounded like if I kept my thick southern accent, and decided to work for a country radio station.

Finally! NVDA 2025.1 will be able to recognize and announce same page links, and buttons which point to text on the same page. It's part of Alpha 33850, and can be disabled, if desired, in NVDA's Document Formatting settings pane. So issue #141, opened on Jan 1, 2010, is closed. @JustinMac84 Yeah - that would also be cool. My guess is that either the BrowserNav add-on or the NVDA Global Commands Extension add-on allows these though I might be mistaken. @NVAccess
@JustinMac84 We do have an issue at github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue… - so do comment on that - and also, noted in that, the Global Extensions add-on does provide this functionality in the meantime.
@JustinMac84 True. This issue affects many aspects of NVDA. For instance, I really want to see the functionality of the ColumnsReview add-on integrated into the NVDA core.
@JustinMac84 There is an issue for clickable at least, I haven't looked at columns review's functionality, but feel free to create an issue if there isn't already one at github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue… - re what gets built in and what's an add-on - essentially we try to ensure the most important functionality for the largest user base is built in - there will always be things some people see as vital others don't use - and some which are add-ons we simply haven't got to addin in.
ColumnsReview provides 10+1 gestures to read and copy the list columns header and content. It's also built into JAWS. However, the functionality provided by ColumnsReview is more powerful and useful than the one found in JAWS, List items, for instance, can be searched via this add-on: addons.nvda-project.org/addons… @JustinMac84

Hello people, boy do I have some news for you. So @Kaliah and I were messing around with Siri, and it had a complete A I meltdown and said the letters J, C, F, E, and X in a random order and wouldn't stop for 30 goddamn seconds. Wait a damn minute, look at that pull request discussion and the diff as committed… the CTO of #Firefox has amended #Mozilla's "Neutral" position regarding #JPEGXL to indicate that their "cost" concerns are mainly about the security risks of a decoder being 100k lines of C++, and that they would be "open to shipping" a memory-safe decoder that meets their requirements?
And some folks at Google are going to write that implementation in Rust?!

@kjw810 Sure, no problem. I don't use any of the blindness-specific players anymore, at least not hardware players. However, with all of the frustrations I'm having with Voice Dream Reader, I'm tempted to get an Evo12; at least its interface is likely not to unexpectedly change and make it difficult for me to load books. 😀
The EVO 12 is OK. I guess my favorite was the Bookport Plus. But I would want the Braille Sense for its Braille capabilities, if it really can access dropbox.
@kjw810 the Bookport Plus was a great player. It was a modified Plextalk Pocket. I loved what APH did to it but it's no longer available and the Evo is still more inexpensive. It doesn't play protected Daisy books but most of the books I've been reading aren't in that format, anyway.
I use Edlin when I want to write something quickly, like a test program or a brief note.
Edlin is also very useful if you want to capture some commands into a FreeDOS batch file— you can write the new batch file while any commands you ran are still visible on the screen.
Found out recently that Mapillary broke the navigation in their web explorer. Couple years ago it showed a trace as a series of points: you click on one and see the photo.
Now it displays a line. You cannot click anywhere on the line, but have to trace your mouse cursor along it, searching for a photo. And only then you can click and see it.
I think they don't use Mapillary anymore at Meta, that's why all its parts are getting worse with time.

Okay just, like right off the cuff here. But why does Vispero, a company making blindness software/hardware want videos for there Big Thing thing? Why not just text? Emails? Like, what? Why? Meh, whatever. I'll submit mine I guess. I'm sure some of you know what I'm gonna suggest. Feel free to submit your own ideas, goodness knows we need more grand ideas for screen readers.
Exactly, I asked this question last year. First, why only three countries or so are privileged, and second, why videos? It's infuriating, why should we then ask for respect from other companies if even a blind-specific company requires bloody videos? totally incomprehensible.
@DavidGoldfield What happened to the idea being the most important thing? Would they not be able to figure out what to do for the presentation if the application is accepted?
Sorry to bother you Daniel. What's the recommended way to get the absolutely latest version on Debian? My current version on Debian is 7.88.1. Obviously I could get the code and compile it but would like to use apt if possible (e.g. get the coming 8.10.0 release when it's out). Cheers!
