It is well known that websites must be accessible, but what about mobile apps? Mobile apps must also follow WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards with a few exceptions that apply to native software.

Do you have a mobile or desktop app that needs to be tested? If so, then why not schedule a consultation with @tayarndt Taylor has both the knowledge of accessibility auditing, and of developing accessible mobile apps. (1/2)

Late night Thunderbird coding, tackling the last split of a big chunk of code into standalone modules in order to continue the work on Conversation View

Yikes, the FOMO is certainly not worth the accessibility nightmare this Bluesky website is.

It's a perfect example of usable, but not accessible.

It's a bunch of labeled elements with no structure whatsoever so you're tabbing through endless links, buttons, and links, and buttons, and links, and buttons, to get somewhere. Forget reading a thread with replies, that will take you forever because there is no structure, at all, to aid in navigation. No landmarks, no heading structure, no headings at all, just links and buttons, links and buttons, and the search is on some different page so I can't even get back to the top quickly. Blind people can have Bluesky because I don't have FOMO.

Finally updated the family tree for my legacy save today now that generation 6 has arrived. This time the main family has twins, Maisie and Millie.
in reply to Chris 🌱

In this legacy, the first born daughter succeeds the matriarch of the previous generation. So the line of succession has gone: Giselle > Rosemary > Candice > Robyn > Lesley, and next will be Maisie

With respect to #ActivityPub:

Simply, having now seen more into the guts of the process and how it is managed both historically and today, and understanding how the w3c works, I have no faith in their ability to define a clear consensus way forward out of the current set of problems.

Not "no faith in <timeline>" but no faith in the ability to define a clear way forward here.

This doesn't mean that someone outside of w3c couldn't define a better way forward, even one using AP, but w3c won't.

in reply to Hrefna (DHC)

One way forward:

Someone defines a way forward within the FEP process. Not as in a static document, but builds a working group "chartered" by a FEP ( @smallcircles would appreciate this, I think).

But ultimately we're looking at needing a "AP2" and that is a fundamentally broken prospect looking at the w3c processes today. Even if they could produce such I have no faith that the problems are understood or that the right people would be in the room.

employers getting huffy over remote work is extremely funny to me because it's an overt admission that a large function of the modern workplace is nothing more than control, and a large function of the modern management structure serves no productive purpose other than to enforce misery

How bad is exFAT support on Linux? Is it still severely impeded by the Microsoft patent trolling?

I have lost track.

(to decide whether I stick to SDHC or move up)

in reply to Garrett LeSage

@garrett the failure was as follow:

- format the card in camera.
- start shooting
- "Write error" and that message only stays on for a couple of seconds.

(Fuji X-T3)

Can reproduce quite well. I had another card in slot 2, no problem. And yes I swapped slots too, still the same card causing trouble.

It's a card I have been using for a while and filled up many times.

Well, look at that: FTC gets green light to continue its antitrust case against Meta. washingtonpost.com/technology/…
in reply to Tim Bray

@hub That was back when Republicans were also complaining about "Conservative voices being silenced" on Meta platforms because they had some fact-checking and were reach-limiting egregious misinformation.

Zuck has since kissed the ring: he said he regrets all the moderation they did on misinformation pointed out by the White house, and called Trump's photo "The most badass thing I've ever seen."

Is wearing the t-shirt of a tech conference at a later edition of the same tech conference cringe, like wearing the t-shirt of the band that's on stage?

in reply to maco

it's not; and if you manage to have a really well preserved t-shirt of an old edition of the conference, it is ✨ classy ✨

MapComplete used to do translations via hosted.weblate.org - we were using the "free tier for Libre/FLOSS-projects" which allowed to have at most 160K strings.

However, because we have a lot of strings multiplied by a lot of languages, we are approaching 180K strings (!). This is a bit over the limit.

As such, @pietervdvn setup translate.mapcomplete.org which will become our main translation hub. It should look familiar, as it too is weblate. You'll have to create a new account though.

Pietervdvn reshared this.

in reply to MapComplete

What is really a pity is that you no longer have all the translation projects at a glance. I already have a bookmark folder with 7 different translation pages for OSM. And the "automatic suggestions" for identical strings from other projects are also lost. Nevertheless: Keep translating!

I need to commission a logo for a new podcast I'm working on. I'd prefer to commission someone on fediverse for this.

Who's interested?

Good morning everyone! As you all know if you follow me, I'm a sighted dev whose focus is on accessibility for the blind. I got into the space of accessibility and learned how important it was because I joined an accessibility jam and got first hand experience speaking with blind gamers. So I'm inviting you to the type of jam that changed my outlook! So join the discord for "Games for blind gamers" and ask your questions!

Calling all #blind #Windows users! I'm looking for recommendations on #accessible SSH clients that work well with #1Password. I've been using Windows Terminal, but I'm not entirely satisfied. What do you use for SSH on Windows? #Accessibility #AssistiveTech #ScreenReader #BlindTech #tech

in reply to Lanie Carmelo

I use sshas part of the windows terminal regularly. What about it disatisfies you?
in reply to Sean Randall

@cachondo Weird behavior with 1Password. When the popup to authenticate with 1Password comes up I have a hard time navigating it. My screen reader doesn't seem to want to type in the box to enter my password.

@mnot what’s the difference between the server stack detection proposals and the old Server: header?
in reply to Tony Finch

@fanf @mnot to properly detect the server stack today you need to check a few other headers as well, but yeah, it is essentially that header.

To people who feel like there aren't many people on mastodon/fediverse, please actually try to be social. So often I see "there's nobody here, i'm going to bsky/threads/whatever" and then when I look at the account's profile on the home server (to make sure I can see all posts and replies), I almost always see very few posts in recent past and even fewer replies. The Fediverse's culture (and mastodon's software) is built around more traditional social networking, like we used to do before algos.

Folks, have you encountered this weird NVDA issue? NVDA does not enter focus mode when pressing enter on the Gemini edit field. I can duplicate it, and it doesn't affect JAWS 2025.
github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issue…
@NVAccess
in reply to Amir

I don't know Gemini, but it may be the same issue I find at Youtube comment edit field. Try pressing up arrow until you land at the page element imediately above, then press tab; it should focus on the edit field and enter focus mode.
in reply to Cleverson

@clv0 Yes, Tab and SHIFT+Tab work, but it's not a solution as Enter should work as expected.
in reply to Cleverson

@clv0 Moreover, if you have disabled Automatic focus mode for focus changes - which I've done, Tab and SHIFT+Tab don't work either.
