@jpmens @iscdotorg we have this special command line that displays all contributors: "curl github.com/curl/curl/blob/mast…" 😉

Signal's "Delete for everyone" only works on messages sent in the last 24 hours.

Do you think that's great for preserving a consistent message history? Or do you think this is an unnecessary limitation where you can't take back what you said?

python's built-in urllib module still doesn't support http2 (nor http3) in the year of 2025, luckily pycurl exists and supports modern standards

More good news! Another government is freeing itself from tech giants and vendor lock-in. The Danish Ministry of Digitalisation is dropping Microsoft Office/365 and moving to #LibreOffice, to get back control: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #OpenSource #freesoftware

Hi. I'm not sure, but it seems like NVDA has an issue working with external USB audio interfaces like the Focusrite Scarlett. When I use the built-in Realtek sound card, everything runs smoothly with no freezes or slowdowns. But when I switch to an external interface that uses the ASIO protocol, I start having problems. Please test your product to make sure it works properly with audio devices using the ASIO protocol.

Oh hey! Elements of Programming is now free because their publisher decided to stop printing them.

This is exciting and if you want to get an incredible introduction to type theory from first principles it's one of my more favorite texts on the subject. It does use C++ as it's reference language but you don't really need to know very much C++ in order to appreciate the text. IIRC it introduces what you need to know as it uses various features.

Apple Shifts iPhone Production to India—But Purism Has Been Leading the Way for Over a Decade

Amid rising U.S.-China tensions, Apple is fast-tracking its move to shift iPhone production to India, aiming for a full transition by 2026.

While Apple’s diversification marks an important shift for Big Tech, Purism has spent more than a decade building secure, privacy-respecting devices right here in the United States.

There’s a GNOME hacker currently in an unsafe living situation. Unfortunately I can’t commit to hosting someone at my place, but can any of my friends out there provide a safe temporary living situation within the continental US?

Please contact @deobald (or reply privately here and I can connect you).

To my fellow Monarch users.
in this video concerning the 1.3 firmware release of the Monarch, it mentions that the WingIt drawing iOS app is now available, just wondering if its only in the US iOS App Store as I can't locate it as yet down here in Australia?

The exceptional mediterranean heatwave continues with anomalies close to 8°C above average.

This is around 9 standard deviations above normal. 5 is considered an exceptional, once in a several thousand year event. This is EXTREME."

Rozpada sa nam stat:

"#Slovensko má zanedbané verejné investície a ľudia si to nemôžu nevšimnúť. Padajúce omietky v nemocnici, odrieknuté a meškajúce vlaky či chátrajúce budovy sú výsledkom toho, že štát nevie šetriť a čo zarobí, minie na bežné výdavky.

Verejné investície sú na Slovensku najmenšie v regióne strednej a východnej Európy, sú také nízke, že stačia iba na nevyhnutnú obnovu…"

I was nerd-sniped by @bagder (mastodon.social/@bagder/114810…) into looking at how rustls-ffi stacks up against OpenSSL on memory allocations/peak heap usage when plugged in as a curl vTLS backend.

Headlines:
* with rustls-ffi 0.15.0: 2,176 allocations. peak heap of 394kB.
* with openssl 3.4.1: 308,132 allocations (!). peak heap of 2.1MB

Tested on Linux, with curl 8.14.1 and OpenSSL 3.4.1 (latest in nixpkgs) vs rustls-ffi 0.15.0

Full disclosure: bagder's measurements w/ the newer OpenSSL 3.5.1 show an improvement. It"only" performs 54,000 allocations....

1.Download curl.se using #curl built to use OpenSSL (that is over HTTPS in case Mastodon hides the scheme for you)
2. count number of allocations made with heaptrack
3. pause for gasping
4. double-check that curl only does 134 allocs itself, independently of the downloaded size
5. check the heaptrack number again

54,000
