Migrating from @gajim apt to flatpak release. Do this so you don't loose encryption and history.
Migrate your data
When switching to Flatpak you might want to migrate your user data (accounts, history, ...) from your previous installation. Just copy your user data from/to the following directories:
Copy ~/.local/share/gajim -> ~/.var/app/org.gajim.Gajim/data/gajim
Copy ~/.config/gajim -> ~/.var/app/org.gajim.Gajim/config/gajim
Massive E-Learning Platform #Udemy Gave Teachers a Gen #AI 'Opt-Out Window'. It's Already Over.
Udemy will train generative AI on classes developed/users contributed on its site. It is opt-out (meaning, everyone was already opted in) with a time window... and opting out may "affect course visibility and potential earnings."
Udemy's reason for the opt-out window was reportedly because removing data from LLMs is hard. IMO, that would be the reason for making it opt-in, but here we are...

Slovensko.

I sometimes get the question why I'm not allowing anonymous contributions to #OpenStreetMap via #MapComplete .
I've gotten the question again today, so I decided to write down why I'm not adding nor planning
this: github.com/pietervdvn/MapCompl…
if it helps to blame the OSMF ;), there's the historical precedent of editors that used proxy accounts getting blocked. Wheelmap gets a free pass mostly because it focuses on one tag and hasn't attracted complaints.
Is that new SSO code that Microsoft contributed useful for MapComplete?
I hope to hear from @Tutanota very soon. Lack of key verification is a major flaw in the technical design of the platform, allowing a malicious Tuta server to read end-to-end encrypted exchanges (both emails and shared calendars).

@Tutanota this is absolute disaster!
Re-reading "The McRib As Arbitrage" in light of the entire no work from home, return to office push, and I find myself genuinly wondering how much labor exists - how many _companies exist_, even - primarily to serve as a utility function for corporate real-estate arbitrage.
I cannot tell you how grotesque this is, the idea that this might be real utility of so many jobs, bullshit or otherwise.
But there are a lot of bullshit jobs out there.
And....
I think I'm going to double down on this.
Companies that are forcing return-to-office aren't doing that to better fulfill their corporate mission. By clinging to antiquated ideas of what management does and what leadership is these companies have allowed themselves to be co-opted into propping up failing corporate real estate arbitrage schemes. That's it, that's the whole story.

Human composting should be a third option after burial and cremation.
My wife, Tui Davidson, spent her volunteer energy to provide a not-for-profit funeral service for Canberra. Five years later, they are a successful operation.
On Thursday, I was honoured and proud to attend her graduation from a social entrepreneur course called GRIST from Mill House Ventures. Earthly Remains is her human composting initiative and, as well as working with partners to develop the technology, she is lobbying the ACT government to create legislation to allow it, as 13 US states have done.
The GRIST program supported the creation of a short video which explains it better than I can.
She is also looking to collect data about community attitudes and would appreciate your input on a survey found at the website below.

Export and import via file did work.
Is this a known bug?

K9-Mail was the app which shown me that 800x480px screen can be used better than Maemo does it. So after playing with NITDroid on Nokia N900 l went and bought Nexus S.
Over decade passed. K9-Mail was always on my phone. Still it.
Tb beta migrated settings fine. Folder names in side menu look worse. Probably something to get used to.
Anyway staying with K9-Mail 8beta for now.

Also, we're using all the feedback to help us create FAQs and Getting Started guides on Mozilla Support, and I've added a note we should include Push and Poll settings in said guides.

as a k9 user I did not notice major changes yet, but that's not a bad thing, on a beta.
looking forward for synching too.

in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox • • •just tried to migrate from k9, import from app did not work (file worked). There already is an older ticket on GitHub, but is it not assigned.
Next thing which is a huge show stopper for me is the missing support for nested and collapsible/expandable IMAP folders. The "folder.subfolder.subsubfolder.foo" workaround is a real deal-breaker, especially when you have 100 folders (incl subfolders). There also already is an existing unassigned ticket for this.
The rest seems fine so far 👍

The settings import from the App K9 fails but the export in K9 and the import in Thunderbird Android worked without problems.
In K9 the Accounts show a picture. Thats the only thing I miss in Thunderbird Android.

in reply to Thunderbird: Free Your Inbox • • •Breaking laws is not a good start is it? As mentioned in other comments, it is not allowed to collect (even anonymous) data without consent at least in Germany.
The argument "Otherwise de do not get enough data" is no argument. First, K9 worked without as well and second, it is ridiculous to break a law with such an explanation.
I recommend everyone to checkout FairEmail as real alternative.
