I've come to understand what's happening in frontend's decade-long failure to deliver decent user experiences as a sort of epistemic closure. I'm calling it "frameworkism", and the epicenter is now React.

Frameworkism is now the dominant creed of today's frontend discourse, and it's bullshit. We owe it to ourselves and to our users to reject dogma and embrace engineering as a discipline that strives to serve users first and foremost.

On the other hand, before we had mobile phones with cameras, I would have had to spend the rest of the day doing the labour of going up to people and telling them myself: "I saw a duck take off."

This is making the rounds on Finnish social media.

A large association for Finnish construction companies, #Rakennusteollisuus, decided that they needed an English version of their website but apparently they didn't want to pay an actual #translator so just used some free #LLM with hilarious results.

They've fixed it now, but for a short while there was some comedy gold to be found.

P.s. I didn't find these, I've no idea who did.

Contact info of the executive director, but her name is "Fairytale Alajärvi". Her actual name "Satu" means "fairytale".
Portrait of their labour market manager, but her name says "I was Tiina", her actual name is Tiina Olin. "Olin" can mean "I was" but in the surname context it's a swedish surname which doesn't have that meaning at all, and it is pronounced differently.
Contact info of a CEO for some smaller association, her actual name is Sini Laine, but the LLM translated that into "The Blue Wave". Maybe it's her superhero name, but maybe it's just a stupid direct translation by the LLM like the other examples. "Sini" means "blue" or "of blue tint", and "Laine" means a certain type of calm wave.
Contact info of an expert named SpongeBob Mattila whose actual name is Paavo Mattila. The Finnish version of SpongeBob SquarePants is Paavo Pesusieni (essentially Paavo the sponge).

Here it is: the Finnish Parliament has sided against #ChatControl !

I am overjoyed that in their statement, they have outlined exactly what this proposal would entail: mass surveillance in Europe.

@troed There are around 1000 atproto PDSes, and anyone can run a relay (with sufficient resources): whtwnd.com/bnewbold.net/3kwzl7…. Meanwhile indie relay impls like git.lavender.software/cerulea/… are popping up. Even if there's currently one big instance, the proto is still decentralised.

Canada's #CopyrightAct allows circumvention of technological protection measures if done for purposes of "maintaining or repairing a product, including any related diagnosing," and "to make the program or a device in which it is embedded interoperable with any other computer program, device or component." As iFixit points out, neither amendment do anything to expand access to tools needed to circumvent TPMs.

Almost all ticket vending machines of the municipal transport company in Amsterdam will stop working on 1 January 2025 and will be removed later.
The reason is quite interesting: end of software support for the card payment terminals. 🙄

Sure you can now check in and out with your bank card directly, but if you want a day ticket, or discounted ticket, all you're left with is the mobile app.

A ticket vending machine titled Tickets Tram Bus Metro with a big sticker saying that this machine will stop working on 1 January 2025 and will be removed.

OK... Either I am just super late to the party, or this just isn't very widely known / discussed in the macOS #VoiceOver community.
As of macOS Sonoma, remotely controlling a Mac using Screen Sharing is actually very much accessible using the High Performance Mode connection option. VO needs to be enabled on the Mac being controlled, which will result in VO, as well as any other audio being routed over the network to the controlling Mac. @AppleVis
