Zatím jsme vzdáleni světelné roky od toho, aby šlo nabídnout zajímavý "starter pack" účtů nově příchozímu z ulice. Existuje strašně moc typů účtů, jeden jsou ti, kdo si chtějí prostě povídat s lidmi celkem o čemkoliv, nekontroverzně. Jenže ty nejde dost dobře dávat do "starter packů"....
Je to ošemetný problém, prostě jen napodobovat, jak to vypadalo na vrcholu Twitter bubliny, než ho koupil Elon, nejde. Mastodon je hodně aktivistický, aktivisté ale když se zrovna nevěnují svému aktivismu, jsou v podstatě docela nudní lidé.
Je třeba taky přijmout fakt, že spousta obsahu na sociálních sítích je vytvářena profesionálně, jen o tom nevíme...
@xChaos Jestli je něco, co mi tady nechybí, tak je to soutěžení o pozornost. Naopak jsem rád, že je to společnost obyčejných lidí s "nudnými" životy. Málokdo má život takový, aby jím mohl denně bavit obecenstvo. Podle mě má opravdová sociální síť odrážet opravdové lidské vazby. Moji kamarádi nejsou žádní supermani, kteří dokáží bavit tisíce, proto to ani nečekám od lidí, které sleduji tady. Právě tahle lidskost a opravdovost je to, čím je Fediverse unikátní. To by měl být náš prodejní artikl. Ne přenášení toho, co (ne)funguje na X, sem.

Jediné, co jsem si dovolil říct, že většina typických uživatelů sociálních sítích tam není kvůli čtení dále nestrukturovaných automaticky generovaných přehledů článků. Jsou tu, aby se k nim dostalo něco zajímavého doporučeného lidmi s podobnými zájmy, tedy těmi, které followují. Tedy, to, že tenhle výběr začne za lidi dělat algoritmus, to se nám nelíbilo, ale právě že lidi si už odvykli, že jejich interakce je důležitá a že mají interagovat.
Prostě je to asi stejné, jako elektřina v asynchronním motoru: dokud ho nenabudíme, jen se klec volně otáčí naprázdno, když ji otočíme. Musí se přidat určité množství magie, aby to začalo fungovat. Chvíli se to vydrží točit setrvačností, ale to není ono.
Samozřejmě tu iniciativu vítám, ale šance na tu masovou migraci byla jedna.
Spíše, než se seznamy účtů, bych lidi učil pracovat s hashtagy. A hlavně, pro konzumenty obsahu to tu nebude zajímavé ještě dlouho. Vidím smysl v tom přesvědčit lidi, co rádi obsah vytvářejí, že tohle je místo, kde si ho můžou syslit "na později", a třeba znovu boostnout, až budou mít publikum, nebo tak.
Další věc je, že na začátku se tu šířily mýty typu "favování nemá význam" - favování tu není jen kvůli ovlivňování algoritmu, má význam i kvůli výběru obsahu pro archivaci, povzbuzení autorů, apod.
@xChaos nepříjemná pravda je ta, že většina lidí nemá zájem o nějakou sociální interakci online, proto nemá zájem ani o opravdovou sociální síť. Jak říkáš, pro ně to je algoritmizovaný feed s možností se s někým pohádat v komentářích. Tou opravodovou sociální sítí byly Twitter, FB aspol. tak akorát na začátku. Pak pochopili, že to tam lidi neudrží a změnili to na ty zpravodajské/zábavní feedy. Nemyslím si, že úspěšnou strategií je to replikovat. Myslím si, že ta síla je fakt v tom nabídnout tu sociální interakci. Ale to bude vždycky niché. Je to skupina lidí, které oslovuje Nyx, Hofyland... Úplně malá skupina to není, ale je roztříštěná. Ambicí Fediverse by mělo být to slepovat dohromady.

@Jann To je moc dobrý nápad. To by mohlo fungovat. Akorát si říkám, že by bylo dobré úplně na začátek toho člověka oslovit, jestli o to vůbec má zájem. Někteří o tu pozornost nestojí.

Informal question for NVDA end users please: NVDA has many quick navigation keys (single letters you press to jump to the next element of a certain type on the web). I haven't included any here so as not to lead you - but what are your top FIVE most used of these?
I often introduce navigating on the web by mentioning a couple, but I want to make sure I am thinking of the same "common" ones as you. Please let me know your top 5?
H for heading is almost certainly my most used. As for the rest, it usually depends on what I'm doing, but I very often use B for button, R for radio button, E for edit field, etc.
@NV Access Mine are h for heading, e for text entry, b for button, f for any form field followed by concrete numbers for heading at a specific level for sites I know well. Then checkboxes, comboboxes, landmarks and frames at the very end of my quick navigation usage patterns.
I think the only one I use is h for heading. maybe not the one you are thinking of, but h gets used so much, I am very surprised that key hasn't went on strike for my poor keyboard!
I'm also an accessibility tester so I tend to run through the gambit with hte most common ones first, but I'll be reading this thread later to be sure I'm on the same page as most users.

H has to be the very top, by a lot. Headings are still how I think of getting around webpages. I use d on certain pages, but landmarks never quite took off, so that's less common. F is on the list so I can jump by form field, even when some genius made the search field a combo box for no reason. Comma is one I use a lot for wordy figures or to skip out of tables or lists in say-all. I don't know what the last one is, since I use other keys on specific sites.

@FreakyFwoof I teach both jaws and NVDA on a daily bases, and I still have a hard time remembering which commands are for which screen reader. It could also be that I'm getting old. LOL.

@DavidGoldfield h is my most used quick key, followed by e, b, and x, although I probably use h more than those three together. I don't really use any of the others nearly as much as those, although I use Tab a lot on the web too.
Hard to say because I just instinctively use them differently depending on the page I'm on. Headings, edit fields, buttons, links, and a tossup between tables/lists/landmarks depending on context. I also notice that some sites and apps are starting to implement articles for distinct bits of text, so I've assigned that to the A key and changed anotations to Z. I assigned a lot of the unassigned ones, but that's probably the most useful one.

@jcsteh @twynn There is a tool to do this, I found it a few years ago when I bought a book from apple books and wanted to read it in VDR. It was called iBook Copy, although I think it was only a Mac program.
Yeah, I don't think that was a semantic lossless decrypt though, as ViWizard isn't a company known for lossless decryption despite their buzzwords pretending to indicate otherwise. @jcsteh
@twynn @jcsteh Quite possible you're correct, but it seemed to give me all the content I cared about at least. I so wish I could add facilities for doing this directly into the app, but then I go to that big happy jail place.
True, and I suppose that's the important thing in the end. I made sure when I first started decrypting Kindle books that I (1) got it in the KF8 format that kept as much of the xhtml content untouched and (2) grabbed the KFX to get higher-quality images. I'm glad I switched my platform to something a little more frictionless though and am now just decrypting an EPUB. @jcsteh
@twynn Which platform do you use now? I started with Apple Books because at the time, it was reasonably accessible on iPhone. But over the years, it has gotten much worse, especially with braille. So now I'd prefer something I can decrypt so I'm not at the mercy of the whims of these companies who don't give a dingo's kidney about my access.
@jcsteh I switched to Kobo and just decrypt with Codex and a super old version of Adobe Digital Editions. I know you can use modern DeDRM plugin as well, but I stuck with what works: gist.github.com/tmthywynn8/d00… @TheQuinbox

I'm thinking this could probably be converted into a project that listens for webhook events on new user account signups, then schedule an account analysis automatically... if the account looks like spam in +24 hours it can just automatically delete it

DASH: Danger Action Speed Heroes, a 2D precision platformer, just left Early Access and finally hit full release on Steam.
This thing has been sitting on my wishlist for seven years. And boy, am I disappointed. But before tearing it apart, let’s cover what it’s supposed to be.
DASH is built around speedrunning. Hunt for shiny diamonds. Blaze through levels to prove you’re fast enough. Upload your own creations and track plays like it’s supposed to mean something. The entire pitch is “rise to the top” through running and creating.
The graphics? Acceptable, nothing more. Functional, yes. Pretty? No. The shaders try to channel retro vibes but instead look cheap and awkward. It doesn’t bring joy—it just does its job.
The soundtrack barely registers. I had to boot the game again just to confirm it existed. The sound effects lean way too hard into meme culture, and instead of adding charm, they grate. At least there are volume sliders, because you’ll want them.
Controls are where it really falls apart. Keyboard-only defaults to arrow keys for movement, and you can’t remap them. WASD is not an option. You can flip action keys from X/C to S/D, but that’s like choosing between Diet Coke and Coke Zero—neither is what you actually wanted. Gamepad support (Xbox, DualShock) exists, but it’s only partial. That sums up the whole feel of the game: half measures.
Yes, the game advertises online PvP with cross-platform multiplayer. Maybe that mode salvages it. But I don’t play for PvP, and the single-player offering here is paper-thin. The included levels don’t inspire, and the level editor can’t rescue a game when the foundation is this dull.
Compatibility? Supposedly it runs natively on both Windows and Linux. In reality, the Linux build crashed. Only when I switched to Proton Experimental did it actually work. That should not be the case.
Specs are modest—2 GHz CPU, 4 GB RAM, 350 MB space. But that’s about the only straightforward thing. Because when I launched, the splash screen still labeled it “Early Access.” This is the full release? Really?
Reception is basically a time capsule. Steam shows 15 reviews, all from 2019. Nothing since. So whatever praise is there is six years old, from when it was barely out of the gate.
The one good thing I can say: it’s free. Free to download, free to play. But even as a free game, I can’t recommend it. Not after seven years of waiting.
