What's the difference between #DeltaChat and #SimpleX?

I want to pick one to invest my time in fully setting up. I've tried SimpleX and it's okay but I see DeltaChat is active on Fedi and maybe has more momentum?

All constructive thoughts are welcome!

I've mentioned this before but SimpleX is more private secure and anonymous that signal threema and session.

SimpleX is decentralised meaning taking down a single group of servers or org wouldnt destroy the simplex network, people can run completely anonymous simplex servers over tor, this puts simplex ahead of Signal and Threema

SimpleX has quantum resistant encryption which puts it ahead of Threema and Session, the UK military[1] and NATO[2] both consider quantum computers to be a threat now because of store now decrypt later attacks

SimpleX has no user identifiers not even random strings, its essentially like having a "burner phone for every contact". Two or more compromised contacts could corroborate your messages by linking them to your signal username or your session id, but with simplex your contacts can't prove your identity even between eachother. This fact puts SimpleX above Signal Threema and Session

These technical details about the simplex protocol can all be found on the project website including the whitepaper

> SimpleX is also decentralised with multi-profile

but it doesn't have proper multi-device support besides the UI is pretty bad, not user friendly, not on the level of mainstream apps like #WhatsApp or #Telegram, see this #SimpleX screenshot for example

#India is trying to impose SIM binding on messaging apps, which means apps will have to keep monitoring, if it is the SIM card with the same number that was used for registration with the app is being used on the phone where the app is installed.
This is going to be another privacy issue for end users and a technical challenge for apps.
What about apps that doesn't use a phone number for registration like #deltachat or #simplex? How would the government implement this rule?
The way governments think of solving problems most of the time are very bizarre, and this certainly is one of them.

I keep hearing about #SimpleX but background checks on who is behind it go back to some random Russian guy based in London. Not the best recommendation for either company director or country of registration.
There's claims that it's been audited but only by one company "Trail of Bits".
Then there's SimpleX disclaimer which specifically states that it may be neither secure or safe.
Doesn't instil confidence.

Countering toxicity and fake takes is not just a technical question (moderation, admins etc) but one of social curation both collectively and privately: which people and groups do you/we trust for what. No tool can automate that.

#deltachat is for private e2ee messaging and mutually curated group chats, and not random social media propelled onboarding. We are with #Signal here and not with #simplex and #matrix who offer public anonymous discovery of large chat groups with lots of unknown folks.

Woah! Only now did we discover a great blog post from @wq who discusses the progression from hosting a #Matrix , a #Snikket and a #SimpleX server, to now running a #chatmail relay runtimeterror.dev/self-hosted-…

It's an excellent read, with lots of good advise, including having a public "hello" profile and another unpublished chat profile for private chatting. #deltachat apps have pervasive multi-profile support (and multi-device support) so it's pretty easy to establish such a two-profile setup.

Currently we are using #session and exploring #simplex
Thank you tutanota!!

As a #TutaMail user, and a happy one, I have to say - I personally think the Quantum-safe Encryption claim is B.S.

Researchers are still in the process of attempting to develop and use fully functional Quantum computers and not even close to certain about how they work. How can you make this claim?

Same goes for #simplex , @simplex

I use Threema, SimpleX, Element and Signal, with Signal being my main messenger. Signal is also by far the most popular with me!

After our poll on best WhatsApp alternatives, we've got a lot of replies how great #SimpleX is. ❤️ So we added them to our comparison: tuta.com/blog/best-whatsapp-al…

What are your favorite chat apps? Do you use a WhatsApp alternative for better #privacy? 💪 🎉

Let us know via the comments, we'll likely update the blog post again soon! 😍

Es gibt auf F-Droid zwar mehr als eine Messaging-App. Dennoch wird in der Kategorie "Messaging" nur "SimpleX Chat" angezeigt. Warum?
