Joining the #fosdem translations room today was fun, also spontaneously taking over A/V duty for the room was a nice experience. @orangesunny brought a great energy into the room despite the very hot air and the locked windows. Thank you!

#fosdem2026 was another awesome success for the open source community this year. I had a blast showing off what all we do at BlissLabs and what all is possible for the Android community. Got to finally put a face to so many of the people I have collaborated with over the years, and I can't wait to come back!!
Special shout out to @IzzyOnDroid , @shiftphones and @bene64 for helping show what an Open and Sustainable Ecosystem for Android could look like - From Hardware to Apps. You all rocked!!

I didn’t get a chance to ask the question during the panel, so I’ll ask it out-loud here :)

I tend to have a mental model of behaviour that I think about on social media: interaction level and collective level.

If you want to moderate interaction level content, then that’s things like “is this image problematic” or “is this person harassing someone else” and so on. That seems to be what the DSA mostly addresses? Which is great! We need more protection there

But the collective level is something I’m curious about: what happens when attacks are designed to be “harmless” or “not violating” at the interaction-level, yet deeply harmful at the collective level? How does one defend against a synthetic threat carefully designed to target a vulnerable collective in a way that no interaction level defense is really capable of handeling?

Do we have regulations around this yet? Is it a problem we’re trying to address at the governance level? (I know the tooling is nearly non existent, but slowly starting to emerge. It would be encouraging to see similar momentum in governance)

All bags are packed, ready for take-off: Meet us this weekend at #FOSDEM – our stand is UD2-02 (where you can grab stickers, flyers, & more)! And make sure you don't miss the lightning talk (10 min) on our download statistics, by the fantastic Cat Ima @SylvieLorxu (14:00 at UB4.132). And if you're bored, be also welcome to my half-hour-long about Reproducible Builds for Android Apps (12:30 at UB4.132; that's the FOSS on Mobile devroom).

Looking forward to meet you! 🤗

If you’re going to FOSDEM, please wear masks. The venue is stuffy and con crud was a thing before the virus that can take away your ability to concentrate enough to make software.

For those attending #FOSDEM and interested in the topic: make sure to attend Marc's talk "Fear and Loathing in the App Stores: when FLOSS principles collide with the Gatekeeper interests" (fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event…), which covers this topic. We will be there, and also be ready to answer questions.

Of course we can also be found at our stand in UD2-02 😉

Big thanks to @marcprux from the @fdroidorg board for picking this up!

@seabass @neil @eighthave @fbinin & the rest if the team will be there.

Also, do not forget to attend the main track session on Sunday which will be at 12 by @marcprux

Something I'd really like to see from @fosdem - a graph of which social media addresses speakers have on their profile / presentations over the years. Last year it was still quite disappointing that the number of people with Mastodon on their slides was quite low. Maybe something for the stats session at the end?

#fosdem preparation list:

* Noise cancellation headphones
* Public transport app
* Add the hotel and the campus to favorites
* FOSDEM schedule app
* Bookmark the sessions of interest

Still open: what to take for a snack, to avoid the crowd at the food court.

Also, do I need EUR cash for the merchandise? Or everyone's accepting cards and Paypal?

#39c3 .ending .. quite an enjoyable blast, and thanks to all the wonderful people just dropping by to say "thank you, it all works very nice for us"! 🥰 Certainly raised team spirits :)

This year around, apart from one #chatmail relay setup workshop we didn't do any registered events at congress. Pushing out releases, Illnesses and engagements in various other organizing prevented more public sessions. Next ones will be around #fosdem2026 where also several of us will be around. Cheers!

Social and Organizational Talks at FOSDEM 2026

Hey, all. One thing that’s different this year about the Social Web Devroom at FOSDEM 2026 is that we’re going to include talks about the organizational and social aspects of rolling out Open Source Fediverse software for individuals and communities. Last year, we focused pretty heavily on technical talks from the principle developers of FLOSS packages. This year, we want to make sure the other aspects of Fediverse growth and improvement are covered, too.

Consequently, the guidance for last year’s event, which was focused on how to make a great technical presentation, might seem a little outdated. But on reviewing it, I’ve found that it still has good advice for social and organizational talks. Just like software developers, community builders see problems and construct solutions for them. The solutions aren’t just about writing code, though; more often they involve bringing people together, assembling off-the-shelf tools, and making processes and rules for interaction.

Talks about Open Source software to implement ActivityPub and build the social web are still welcome, of course. We’re just expanding a bit to cover the human aspects of the Fediverse as well.

I’m looking forward to having the interesting discussions about bringing people together to make the Social Web. If you haven’t already, please consider submitting a talk to pretalx.fosdem.org/fosdem-2026…. Select “Social Web” from the “Track” dropdown, and include the length of your talk (8/25/50) in the submission notes. The deadline is December 1, 2025, so get them in as soon as possible!
