Welp. I got notified by my ISP that our email service will be switched to ... Yahoo.
Yahoo?! :blobcatscared:
But our email address will remain the same, isn't that nice. I never expected that a large ISP like them would do this, but I guess this is where we are these days.

So, time to find a new email provider. Anyone have a recommendation for a service you have used and are happy with? Something reliable with a good privacy record? And I'd prefer to access it with @thunderbird rather than via web browser, if possible.

(NOT gmail, do NOT say gmail! :blob_sign_no: )

What's the easiest way to get up and running with a screen reader? :bunthink:

Is the term libre as in "libre software" understood in English ?

An older family member with poor eyesight is going to have necessary cataract surgery that will either improve or make the situation worse - and either way will make him very visually impaired for 1-4 weeks. He is very computer dependent.

Wondering if there is a simple explainer for making Windows computers and Android mobiles more accessible, like starting with the basics? Thinking Narrator for Windows, and Voice Access and Lookout for Android. Or someone reliable who could help him out remotely? (Would pay.) :boost_ok:

Hey, do you know if there's any benefit to putting alt text when a figure/illustration already has a legend?
I'm asking specifically for the context of editing a pdf, wondering if alt text makes sense.

Does anyone have suggestions that can do #cryptographic signature verification of streaming data (as in a pipe)? The problem with #gpg in this case is that it will emit all the data out the pipe, only indicating with an exit code if the signature was good - at which point most of the data may have been processed. #SequoiaPGP is slightly better, withholding the last 25MB until things are fully verified.

I suspect I need something that signs blocks of the input. Does it exist? #askFedi

Random Fediverse questions:

When someone edits a toot, does everyone who starred and boosted the toot see it? Or is it just if you boosted it?💜

I've also heard some instances don't even see edits if you make them. Is that true?

So I've been working with GTK4/Libadwaita in Python (in Flatpak), and I'm trying to get notifications to work.

I keep getting this error: "gi.repository.GLib.GError: g-io-error-quark: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.Notifications: Timeout was reached (24)"

Am I missing Flatpak overrides? (Docs seem to say no https://docs.flatpak.org/en/latest/portals.html )

Am I doing this wrong? (Code at https://github.com/TheKrafter/Groupings/blob/rewrite/src/groupings/internal/push.py#L31 )

Edit2: Solved! Thanks everyone!
#Blind #Microsoft #excel users and others who, for whatever reason, only use the keyboard, NOT THE MOUSE: How the hell do I tell Excell to continue a pattern in a column without selecting it and clicking on the bottom left side of the screen or whatever?
Let's say I have a column with 1 in A1, 2 in A2, 3 in A3, so forth, and want that to go on for 150 cells or so. How the hell do I do it? Because I know I used to know, but I cannot find it.
It's not control+d. That just fills the whole column with 1's. It's not copy-paste; that does adjust properly for formulas, but for this, it doesn't. There is surely an option somewhere in the menus, but I cannot find it.
Alternatively, I'd also be happy to learn of ways to do this in #OpenOffice #Calc, so long as they are keyboard-only and accessible. LibreOffice doesn't work all that well here, at least Writer doesn't, but I could double-check if that extends to other programs.

Edit: a couple folks suggested using formulas for this, adding so the first cell would be 1, the second A1 +1, etc. That works quite well for most use cases! It would mean the order of the numbers would stay the same when reordering the table though, so if I was using this to autocomplete a list of years, then sold by the comumn Income ... bam, the income of each year's not right anymore.
Also suggested was Home>Fill>Series. I do not see a Series option in the Fill menu at all, Bewilderingly. I'll try to switch my language to English to see if that's the issue, but I pressed all the things, so pretty sure it's not there for me in Office 365. Could someone with that version check whether it works for them?
Edit2: I figured out how to get to the series option! Turns out it was there, I just didn't realise I had to select the right type of series. :ms_facepalm: For those curious, for the Slovenian version, that's Alt +N, FI, V, Enter.

Researched this a while back but didn't find anything, so I'll ask here.

I'm looking for a flatfile CMS that would let me a) manage everything in a git repo and b) add logic to my site somehow.

Something like Netlify gets part of it right. You can manage content via git and include functions that are mounted at /.netlify/functions, but I can't host that myself and their prices are/were insane.

https://getgrav.org is closest to what I want and I'm using it now, but its git-sync plugin is a little vicious beast that will murder whatever repo you sync it with unless you set it up just so, and I'm not looking forward to trying to get that right again. No, I'm not being hyperbolic. https://github.com/trilbymedia/grav-plugin-git-sync/issues/213

If possible, I'd also like to tweak pages pre-render so I can, for instance, not show site sections/links if a user is authenticated or similar. I can do PHP if I must, but I'm way more familiar with just about every other ecosystem. #AskFedi

Does anyone know any instance directories which have safety requirements for being listed?

So, for example, JoinMastodon has the covenant at https://joinmastodon.org/covenant, are there any other instance directories which have similar (or better) rules?

Need some #PeerTube advice!

The really excellent PeerTube instance https://tilvids.com now has a bug that stops people on Mastodon etc being able to follow Tilvids accounts:

-Existing follows work fine, but new follows turn into "Follow request sent" messages and don't go through (PT doesn't use requests).

-Messaged Tilvids about this and they rebooted server, but it didn't help.

-Posted on PT Github but no help so far.

Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Boosts appreciated!

Hey there!

I'm trying to make a list of places that sell de-googlised smartphones ready to use straight out of the box.

So far I've got https://murena.com

Are there any others?

When writing articles or documents in general I'd occassionally like to add pictures into the document e.g. a photo or a screenshot. While doing this I am always asking for help from someone else because I'm #blind. Can you give me some recommendations how to make sure the image is right size and it does not overlap the text or the other way round? Either pure HTML, or wordpress or markdown. #a11y #askfedi
