You know, right after hitting send I thought about something. Should I call myself nerd? Honestly there are tons of more smarter and nerdy people than me, and somehow, I wouldn't even necessarily call me nerd, but many people do, my parents, friends, and I guess what I do is, nerdy? I don't know what I think about the association with the word nerd at this point tbh.

And that's the fun part of beeing a nerd. Been at the YMCA the last couple of days and got recommended an audiobook, that recommendation kinda spread so it wasnt only me who wanted to hear it. So what did I do? Get it on Audible, NVDA Remote into my PC, Open Audible FTW rip it, throw it on my audiobookshelf server, and saved people money. Yup sometimes its great to be seen nerdy in a good way as you are.

something like custom keycaps or just themed? Usually, on Aliexpress you can find nice quality keycaps from all styles. But since you're looking for a cute design, check this out.

@matt Fixed the typo, thanks! As for why I chose this particular model:
⁃ it’s the biggest model that fits in my M1 Max’s RAM comfortably;
⁃ it responds almost as quickly as commercial hosted models;
⁃ it’s not pretending to know anything, it frequently tells me “I don’t know anything/enough about that, check online”;
⁃ instead, it’s just very good at English and Polish.

@vlad25 For anyaudio I am hopeful to implement proper database replication and load balancing so that several servers around the world can host nodes that handle bits of the anyaudio traffic. This sort of thing is pretty tricky to set up and get right in a bug free manner though. Indeed, however, we are quickly reaching the limits of my poor small server with all of these releases and I'll probably have to adapt accordingly in some sense.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know that Starwar Part1, the binaural text to speech audio production I showed off on stream, is now available to download in flac! Especially for those who didn't see the stream, you might want to read the description before listening in order to acquire context which will certainly leave you a bit less confused. Those on mastodon and thus most likely to know of the streams get the Anyaudio link before the clip goes generally public, especially since there is no Anyaudio commenting at this time due to disabled registrations. Anyway, enjoy! anyaud.io/listen?audio=OeFViBO…

Gajim on macOS :apple_inc:

Installing Gajim on macOS just got a lot easier! Gajim is now available as a packaged DMG setup file 📦, which can be downloaded and installed.

At the moment, we provide an experimental nightly for testing. If everything goes well, the next Gajim release will include a macOS setup as well 🎉

Try the nightly here:

I can say, however, that I've reunited with an "old friend" who is still in great shape. Before I get dozens of replies about it being insecure: in theory, it is, but it's not accessible from the outside. It's isolated within its own network and is only able to connect and fetch backups for 'extreme disaster recovery' (only at specific times, restricted by specific firewall rules). It served its purpose today, and tomorrow, it might be even more useful.

Microsoft Office renamed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot app"

When we design for disabilities, we make things better for everyone. This is called the Curb-Cut Effect. The term was coined by disability students and activists in the 70s, who added curb cuts to the Berkeley sidewalks to make access easier for those in wheelchairs. They discovered those also helped people with strollers, using trolleys for deliveries, etc.
in reply to victor tsaran

I think that split is too blurry to be considered a problem in the analogy 🤷
On a wheelchair day, I usually have other options if there's no ramp--often I'm able to stand and take a couple steps, and often I have another person with me to help me get over a step with the wheels. A more skilled manual wheelchair user could pop a wheelie.
An abled parent pushing a large stroller with heavy kids and stuff in it doesn't always have the option to pick it up.

Now I've heard there was a secret way
To edit text on your display
That's better than emacs (that's made by GNU), yeah.
It goes like this, you type E D
And nothing shows up visually
You baffle newbs who haven't got a clue, yeah.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You type an "a" to start append,
Then period to mark the end.
There is no AI bot that's gonna screw ya.
It's there for you in rescue mode
And when you need to edit code
Or when you need to spoof some Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

ooh this is a good experiment, noted for sure. The only time I could see someone even remotely thinking of this would be for a status-update button, but that's when we have other stuff like aria-busy anyway and direct label changes get announced when buttons have focus so a dev doing that would be very mislead. Nonetheless, that pen will be useful to show devs what not to do.

The concluding post in my AI-Ready Software Developer series ties all the threads together.

Far from "changing the game", AI coding assistants have just added another layer of uncertainty to an already very uncertain process.

Same game, different dice.

For World Braille Day, I compiled a list of free braille art and tactile image libraries that I used for a project in one of my graduate school classes. This is by no means a complete list of all available resources for tactile graphics, rather it is a list of sources that were explored for this project. veroniiiica.com/free-braille-a…

The best thing about modern software is the error messages that show up even before the condition has completed.

Like... "NO INTERNET OMG MAKE SURE YOU ARE ONLINE" which sits there for the first few seconds after you launch the app, and goes away when the software itself finally gets around to even attempting the connection for the first time.

Microsoft Windows, an entire operating system, likes to do this.

That's wild. Each Cadance tablet has over 3500 parts that go into it when manufacturing, and they need to go down in precision as far as 1/32th of an inch for some parts when making them. There are wire coils thinner than a human hair inside it. Wow, just wow. And to think they got the manufacturing together and try to source local parts from Indiana where ever possible, mind-blowing.
