Seems like a good idea, but it'll probably get illogical nay sayers like every other good idea these days, you know because we have to think about whether they like us or not. independent.co.uk/news/uk/esco…

Today I'm proud to announce the release of Homebrew 4.0.0.

The most significant change since 3.6.0 enables significantly faster Homebrew-maintained tap updates by migrating from Git-cloned taps to JSON downloads. In short, this means `brew update` and auto-updates will be much faster.

Also, if you read to the end you get to see me in a stupid beer outfit the other maintainers made me wear.

Check it out:

Be careful what you feed into other people's AI tools.

"According to internal Slack messages that were leaked to Insider, an Amazon lawyer told workers that they had “already seen instances” of text generated by ChatGPT that “closely” resembled internal company data.

This issue seems to have come to a head recently because Amazon staffers and other tech workers throughout the industry have begun using ChatGPT as a “coding assistant” of sorts to help them write or improve strings of code, the report notes."

Seems akin to uploading internal emails or documents to Virustotal, which happens all the time.

I managed to find a copy of the DeluxePaint II Enhanced (IBM/DOS) manual and had it shipped from the UK to the US at some cost. It came in the mail today. I scanned it and uploaded the PDF to archive.org, since there doesn't seem to be a scan of it anywhere that I could find on the internet (until now, you're welcome). You can download it here: archive.org/details/deluxepain…
Enjoy!

Garbage article from MOU (makeuseof.com).

Too many media outlets dogpile on existing narratives, and opt for "think pieces" instead of actual reporting of facts.

Here's the FACTS about Mastodon:

1. In Sept 2022, only ~11,000 accounts were registered on Mastodon
2. In January 2023, ~180,000 accounts were registered
3. This week, ~120,000 accounts were registered

But let's also consider the matter of "active users"...

What is an "active" user, specifically "monthly active user" (a.k.a., MAUs).

It's anyone who a service can perceive as interacting with an account.

Sign-ups make a user "active". Logins likewise make a user "active".

No website ever has a 100% retention in activity after sign-ups.

Between Oct-Dec 2022, ~4 million people signed up for Mastodon. It was an exceptional moment.

How many accounts RETAINED their activity?

~2.7 million accounts

Here's the chart that really matters.

Average Mastodon posts per month are going up.

Here's a comparison:

* Sept 2022: ~460M posts
* Dec 2022: ~573M posts
* Feb 2023 (so far): ~678M posts

This is a dramatic upswing in posts, and indicates that activity on Mastodon is continuing to increase.

The chart tells the story. The jump is dramatic.

David Oreck (yes, the vacuum guy) has just died, at age 99. This article talks about his life. I had no idea he crewed a B-29 in World War II, or ran an animal shelter. He sounds like a great person, at least according to this one article. nola.com/news/business/david-o…

#StreetComplete's AR measuring functionality is, for licensing reasons, now a separate app (github.com/streetcomplete/Stre…).

This means though that this functionality is now available with Streetcomplete installed from F-Droid, if you also install the #StreetMeasure app (FOSS, except it needs to include google's proprietary AR bindings lib) as well as the "Google Play Services for AR" app (proprietary but surprisingly not dependent on actual play services being available on the device).

IzzyOnDroid ✅ reshared this.

in reply to Bubu

It also means that you can use it as a standlaone AR measuring app, which is a nice bonus :).

And thanks to Android's intent/activity system the user-experience is about the same, regardless if the functionality is in a separate apk or not.

Great solution overall as now anyone can easily use it, if they want to (and are willing to use non-free software for that functionality).

(Previously you needed to install SC from google play and not from f-droid to access this function)

For those of you using adbsync (codeberg.org/izzy/adbsync): I've just published v0.1.2 with some minor feature enhancements. Most important: when syncing media files, adbsync can now trigger Android's media scanner so your album browser, media player etc. immediately notice the changed/new/removed files.

Enjoy :awesome:

This makes me so proud. When I was a kid, a glimpse of the #SydneyMardiGras on the evening news meant knowing that queer people existed and I wasn’t alone. I hope these images travel the globe and deliver that message to those who need it most. They deserve to know that they aren’t alone and that a whole community is waiting to welcome them with open arms and hearts. 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ #SydneyWorldPride
