Our 2nd session of Community Hours starts in just a few minutes! Several members of the Thunderbird team will be there, so stop by and say hello!

(And yes, this will be hosted on Jitsi soon, thanks for understanding)

Blunt and salty reminder that in 2010, leaked chat transcripts included Zuck offering up user data he gathered on Harvard students. When asked how he got it, his response was:

“People just submitted it. I don’t know why. They ‘trust me’ - dumb fucks.”

Folks, have you tried the new Thunderbird 115 Beta 3 and found any access issues? Since this will become the official release in a few weeks, I decided to try it - with NVDA - and found that some controls make it more difficult to move from the folder tree to the message list, or message tree, via Tab/SHIFT+Tab. So any hints re how to hide/remove these controls would be welcome.

Today in @Podnews, @james has been playing with PodcastData.org in order to query PodcastIndex.org data. 📈
He said he produced pretty graphs with it, which makes me pretty happy! ☺️

LibreOffice reshared this.

So, finally, Libadwaita's tabs will be announced by screen readers. Yes, that should have been done from the start, but at least it will be done now, or, at least, when gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libadwa… is merged.

Google wants to track you - no matter what. Now it is threatening to take down Invidious, a popular platform on which you can watch YouTube videos without being tracked!

Happy Monday! A reminder that 3 sessions of #Thunderbird Office Hours are happening again today, Monday, beginning at 10am UTC.

Share your experience about Thunderbird 115 beta, ask for help, or learn more about it. We will take your questions on video, voice (dial in), or in Matrix chat.

(All other questions about Thunderbird are welcome.)

dang, I'd love to participate in this because I have so many questions about Google calendar and why it's so bad 😞 Unfortunately I'm traveling all day so I won't be able to.

Calendar in thunderbird is generally not awful, but when I use it at work with the Google calendar integration I get some of the worst bugs. I know it's not thunderbird's fault, because Google's calendar product sucks immensely, but some pro tips and ways to make it integrate nicer would be appreciated 🙏🏻

Some frusttration about a NVDA pull request causing very undesirable outcome, even though it is expected behavior by the pr author
I'm very disappointed to see that this pr ended up in NVDA alpha releases: github.com/nvaccess/nvda/pull/…
I can see that there is some confusion about NVDA generating no speech when coming across a line that only contains supressed punctuation, but that doesn't justify announcing blank for something that is not blank at all!

On March 12, 2011, I was (virtually) introduced to a sugar glider through a Twitter follower. The "crabbing" sound it made got me thinking about how it would sound if a mutant sugar glider went on a destructive rampage. Since I didn't have a mutant sugar glider on-hand, I did the next best thing, and this happened.
Meet Killer Sidney, the godzilla of formerly small creatures... or something like that.

warning: long post ahead; probably screenreader unfriendly

i wonder would it be possible to add some sort of "identity servers" to fedi so that, let's say i'm @lina@lina.moe even tho i'm using a mastodon instance hosted elsewhere

could see that as a hierarchy? of keypairs
let's say i use tech.lgbt as my mastodon server, meaning it has generated a keypair, perhaps `tech.lgbt/@lina@lina.moe#mainkey`
identity server would then sign the public key, so the Actor object would have this?
```
{
// ...
"identity": "lina.moe/lina",
"publicKeyPem": {
"id": "tech.lgbt/@lina@lina.moe#maink…",
"publicKeyPem": "...",
"signature": "..."
}
}
```
and the identity server would be able to verify the signature to say "yes that's lina" or "no she's being impersonated"

please boost so that i get feedback on how weird and impossible this idea is and maybe if someone has actually implemented smth similar before 🥺

in reply to Lina Isidora

I know the feeling 😊 but for now, it's just putting ideas in text and brainstorming!

Great write-up, makes the idea a lot clearer!

So as I understand it now, the identity server verifies a person's identity claims (or aliases) and stores the result?

I'm not very knowledgeable with activitypub so this may be where my confusion is coming from

@adora @wizzwizz4

in reply to Keyoxide

@keyoxide yup, so a client would basically send "[this person] has [this identity] in their actor info, is that actually them?" and judge based on the identity server's response

also the client can verify the public key signature but doing *just* that might result in a bit of unwanted behavior: if the user has revoked a key/alias on the identity server the main/identity keypair doesn't get regenerated, so the signature would be still valid, and that's why this can only be used as a means of "if the signature check fails they're definitely being impersonated" :)

@SylvieLorxu just released Catima v2.24.2 (available on GitHub, F-Droid and Google Play should follow soon) with various RTL fixes, which I'm glad to have been able to contribute to.

I hope we caught them all, but neither of us uses an RTL language ourselves; if you do, testing would be very much appreciated.
