@archos Spíš mám pocit, že pro nadpoloviční většinu jsou hodnoty a morálka vulgaritami a řídí se pouze pudy, takže nakonec na tom nejsme ještě tak špatně. Slovensko je v tom až po uši, navíc opakovaně a poprvé po třech desetiletích přestávám litovat rozdělení společného státu.

@idle @sesivany @idle ja jsem nakonec loni šel přesně opačným směrem Boox Ultra C Pro. A musím přiznat ze eink android má něco so sebe. Na videa nekoukam, ale zas plnohodnotný Browser, e-mail a mobilní Office jsou k nezaplacení. A Termux už je jen taková třešnička na dortu.
Calibre-Web by měl zvládat posílat knihy na libovolnou čtečku, která umí přijímat přes email, ne? Mně šlo spíš o to, že Kindle má lepší displej za podobné peníze. To je pro mě asi nejdůležitější. @idle
Tak to taky už začínám uvažovat. Dřív jsem nebyl příznivcem čteček, ale začínám vidět tu spoustu výhod. BTW jaký tam je browser se někde píše? Nemůžu to nikde najít.
@amarok Nevím to jsem nehledal. Já mám už několik let Kindle. Není ještě ani podsvícená, ale šlape bez problémů jinak. Já asi víc věcí než čtečku v zařízení ani nepotřebuji. Knížky lze poslat z knihovny co mám na serveru a to mi stačí.
Podsvícení je fajn, pokud to je decentní a nežere moc baterii, zatím jsem teda čtečku naživo viděl jen bez toho. Ale kolikrát je napůl šero, lampa daleko a určitě bych podsvícení využil. Ten browser až tak podstatný není, to je fakt, ekniha se tam dostane jinými způsoby.
@amarok Dneska už to má podsvícení snad každá čtečka. ono je podsvícení dělané jinak než v mobilu. Světlo u čteček není tak ostré jako u čtení z LCD displejů a lze regulovat jas. Asi to píšu špatně, ono je to spíše nasvícení displeje.
@amarok podsvietenie čítačky je asi najlepšia vychytávka. Ten komfort keď si človek môže čítať aj v úplnej tme alebo šere. Browser som v čítačke použil snáď len raz. Internet úplne na nič. Aj nejaké hry sú tam. V podstate na tom len čítam.

I ventured outside this afternoon and made a recording with my Zoom H4 Essential, using the Zoom fluffy protector. I then normalised the 32 bit float recording in REAPER to -23 LUFs, and exported as a 192 kbps CBR MP3 file. Oh and I added a fade-in and fade-out to make the entry and exit less abrupt. But other than that, there is no processing. Nice ambience I must say!
That's some good sound quality. How's the stereo separation? Is it realistic, or exaggerated, as stereo so often is? I could hear the separation, of course, but I couldn't tell how accurate it was as I don't know how far you were from the sources.
@alexhall The birds were only a few meters away, the car that drove past me in the back was about ten meters away, perhaps a bit more. The persons walked behind me less than 3 meters. And the plane was obviously quite high up in the air.
If you didn't know, Mastodon re-encodes *everything* including lossy compression. For the best result, if you are attaching to a Mastodon post, use wave or flac. You'll at least only get a single layer of encoding then. I found this out the hard way.
how do you like it? I got mine a couple days ago, haven't had a chance to really use it yet. Tok me a minute to figure out the buttons as well, speech didn't help super much in that regard
@JonathanMosen ahh, I didn't even know of that podcast. I just had an Aira person look real quick, only took a few minutes. Tried with AI but it was having a bit of trouble getting the placements right
@zersiax I definitely like the H4 Essential. The H6 Essential is nice, too, but more for stationary recordings. It is too big to carry around. The H4 is a nice size, I am waiting for the H1 Essential to arrive as well, since it also has some intriguing features. I liked the recordings I have made so far. I think I will keep all three recorders.
@zersiax It has this either stereo or mid-side-mode recording option that the H4 doesn’t have. I find it interesting to play with stereo widths occasionally. Also, the overdub feature can be useful. Also I found that some things on the H1 were done a bit more clever than on the H4 and H6. If you listen to Jonathan’s reviews and compare them side by side, you’ll notice immediately. While the H4 Essential and H6 Essential are siblings, the H1 Essential seems more like a cousin.
@jscholes @zersiax I thought I heard Jonathan mention something to that effect. I checked my H4 Essential and H6 Essential today, and they definitely don’t offer that. But it was mentioned in one of Jonathan’s reviews.
@jscholes @zersiax The interesting thing about M/S is that you can use mismatched microphones and absolutely get away with it. I once used a Cad Audio M179 in figure-8 pattern for the side, and a Rode NT1A for the mid.
@BorrisInABox @jscholes @zersiax You are absolutely correct, and I was mistaken. I just found the option once you go into the Stereolink for any XLR input on the H4 or H6 Essential devices. Sorry for the mix-up.
If you are curious for some reason, here's a recording I made from my old neighborhood as 2015 came to a close. This was recorded with a pair of mismatched microphones in a blumlein configuration with my Zoom H6. Because it's M/S, it is 100% mono compatible, unlike X/Y or ORTF. @menelion I am using the only Zoom windshield that is available. It is a quite big catch them all thing that fits on a lot of Zoom recorders old and new.
@menelion It has an adjustable kind of rubber band with a movable stopper that you can pull out or let it snap back into the thing, making its underside wider or narrower.
