Haha. I had to record it because this may have been my only time to do it, VMWare Fusion under Sequoia not only began to compound-repeat keystrokes without stopping, but also layered sounds upon each other. All I had to do was do a connect and disconnect to the key of the Remote machine and it looped like that, I was quite amazed at how a bug can be fun.
@TomGrant91 Is there an issue with fusion under Sequoia specifically? Still on Sonoma here and we know that fusion has sometimes had issues with brand new OS builds for a few weeks or months after release.
@FreakyFwoof @TomGrant91 Beyond that oddity, there's just other minor smaller irritations - for example, when first starting the machine, internet connection shows 'no network access" for about the first minute of boot, then it establishes. Nothing major as far as a showstopper like moving 13 to 14, but odd unexplained quirks.
@FreakyFwoof @TomGrant91 LOL! So glad I can use this M2 Mac as my main machine but have a windows desktop that I can switch to with just the press of the button on my KVM switch. I loved messing with VM’s back in the day on earlier Intel Mac OS builds but this Silicon stuff is crazy and I don’t like playing with VM’s anymore. Windows on a machine meant to run it is so much better particularly if you need peripherals to “just work.”
@GamingWithEars @TomGrant91 I used win11 on a Mac with proper windows keyboard passthrough for over a month. Did sound editing and all the things I would do on a normal machine, quite successfully too I might add. My machine was being fixed, so I was forced to make it work. I made it work.
@GamingWithEars @FreakyFwoof @TomGrant91 I mean, it's a bit dependent on your situation. I have a joystick here that uses unsigned drivers for Windows 7 I can still load on X86 Win 11 quite well if I disable driver signing, for example. You may not. I use my M2Max Mac with Windows at work for Slack and such, it works but as a primary environment I would hesitate a lot more to use it sadly, and it's a bit on Windows until we can dual-boot it, which will be, never. :D
@GamingWithEars @TomGrant91 In all the years I've had Mac, which goes back to 2014, I have flatly refused to even consider bootcamp. I've always used Fusion. When I'm away from home for extended periods, being able to have Logic running and also run windows alongside for my email and browsing needs is priceless. Switching in and out of one OS whilst losing the functions of the other is absolutely unacceptable to me personally. Different needs, different use-cases of course, but this is also great for web-testing. Want your site to be tested on Edge/Chrome on windows with NVDA/Narrater, all whilst running Safari/Chrome on MacOS in another window with VoiceOver, all whilst airplaying to the company Apple TV? Easy.
@FreakyFwoof @GamingWithEars @TomGrant91 yeah especially for work and being able to compile / fire up a web server locally from the Mac side (which has faster build times when natively using the CPU), and then testing that site on Windows through the VM is priceless for sure. I wasn't sure how much any additional lag added by the audio driver would impact performace though especially for music and audio where you gotta keep those super low. It's minimal but could be better.
@GamingWithEars @TomGrant91 I only use SoundForge in windows, I'm not recording there, usually editing recordings made in Logic, because I prefer editing on windows wherever possible. I can deal with the lag for that purpose, certainly. The more you do it, the more the brain adapts. You likely don't want to game under such an environment, especially for anything requiring immediate action, but RS Games for example, is more than OK. For true gaming you'd want a proper GPU and windows machine anyway, but for the kind of thing I do, that's not important.
as poetic as i find frank's use of the term "harmony" to describe local soundness and completeness (cf. local reduction and expansion of proofs) in natural deduction*, i am not sure that it really works as a music metaphor.
maybe i'm missing something? but musical harmony is about deriving "new" sounds from individual sounds, whereas logical harmony is about checking you *can't* do (something like) that with your inference rules.
I don't think harmony is that bad a metaphor. Harmony has rules. It constraints which sounds go together. And it is even local. I' thinking of rules like these: practicapoetica.com/articles/r…
An alternate metaphor might be counterpoint, but harmony is actually more local.
@modulux this is a cool resource, thanks for sending. i need to stop distracting myself with this in a moment but: the sociocultural aspect of harmony is really what gives me pause. the principles may be based on fundamental physical truths, but they are also informed by subjective and situational opinions about what "sounds good". i want to say logical (un)soundness isn't like that, but i will need to ponder more before i know if i agree with myself :)
That's a little above my level to say. I think it's true that harmony's laws are aesthetic and contingent, rather than necessary. On the other hand, since today we talk of logics, rather than logic, perhaps we can also say that the rules of soudness are informed by necessity--not anything would go--but in some measure a matter of choice.

Yupp, I've got a similar query with my local tools here as well (comparing the indexes which were loaded into a database). But from the linked page, I cannot see what intersects or tell what it really means – not before I open details of one. Some "title" attributes on the version labels in the list would help.

The requirement is common to all repos, but I don't really treat it as mandatory for IOD, for as I understand you just provide upstream-built APKs and if there are recipes these are in fact just a manifests with upstream URLs. Stull, having more information including these URLs exposed would be great.
I mean that when hovering over the version labels it could show some details, as it does on the details page. But yeah, adjusting the column names to what they show would be even more intuitive.
And build recipes are publicly available with our builders for Reproducible Builds, if an app is set up for that (currently, 22.6% of the apps at IoD are). The other metadata will become publicly available soon™, hopefully…
PS, just another thing I found: dev.jahidhasanco.bmicalculator at F-Droid is a different package than at IoD (coming from different repositories, thus should not have the same packageId; actually their 4.0.2 is OLDER than IoD's 1.0.3 (theirs is 4 years old, ours 1 year). Not sure which should be marked "outdated" there. Comparing the source URL might help detect such things.
sure, Repology has facilities to split similarly named projects (and I've in fact seen more cases of this problem), but these imply expanding manually maintained ruleset, and that has its cost. So I'm asking for a feedback - if that's not useful for either IoD or F-Droid, it would make sense to cut the maintenance cost and hide android-specific projects in Repology.

But it already helpedd me to identify some issues (like the one mentioned – but also a new one I was not aware of, with apps falling behind due to GitLab API issues I have to dig into later). You use the old XML index, not the newer JSON? There are already 2 newer formats (JSONv1 & JSON-v2 index). Not sure if XML might be dropped one day. In the XML index, it is "<application id=" that gives you the packageName / applicationId. In JSON-v1 it is "packageName", in JSON-V2 the index key of "packages".
I've had no idea that there are newer formats. F-Droid parser (reused for IoD) haven't had major changes since 2016 when it was introduced. Guess it's time to revisit it.
Cannot check out the data right now, but if names you mention are these `org.example.calculator` like ones, I'd prefer to stick with display names - these at least have a chance to match with other ecosystems, fulfilling Repologys goal. Mismerged projects with common names can be split by URL.
I don#t know what parser you mean, but in 2016 there was only the XML index (aka "v0") – and meanwhile v1 and v2 have been released which differ a lot. Not only they are JSON instead of XML, but a lot of internals have changed or were added.
You should definitely not go by display names alone, that's pretty error prone in most cases. Those packageNames/applicationIds are supposed to be unique – but I understand they don't exist with many desktop apps. URLs should often help, yeah.

@xogium it does say Remote eligible :) Could be worth a shot to apply you never know, it's a harder gig for being at senior-level but someone with a strong QA+ engineering background who has had like 5 years experience+ working at consulting or smaller gigs doing that could probably fit still too

Fun fact: I wanted to help in making the nextcloud accessibility better, as a tester as well as throwing new ideas on the table to improve the experience. Since I have disabilities myself, I know exactly what disabled users might be facing, you know? They booted me off because I can't code.
I have the feeling this job however isn't asking for coding so much as testing and actual suggestions for improvements. Reviewing code isn't the same as coding it myself, if that makes sense?
I have no prior experience as any sort of accessibility tester, or engineering, because I was never let looss, basically. :D
@xogium darn. Maybe not. It does say on the page "Are you interested in working out of any of the following office locations? Our job description will have location eligibility for the role. If the role is remote eligible and you wish to be remote, please leave blank." I just don't think they expose that as a choice for the job application on this position, quite a shame as it was there when I was hired on.
@tardis @xogium so many companies are rolling them back, it's a bit shocking. So far I guess Spotify is doing that for new hires (not sure if it's some or all jobs though, I can't say 100%,) I just hope they keep me on as remote because moving to either London, Stockholm or the NYC offices would really make me look around at that point. Remote was one of the reasons I was so comfortable taking it when I began.

@jscholes That part even shocked me considering I'm in the US (So our team would have a London/EU split) but maybe they're wanting another engineer who works in that region so someone is awake for the EU timezones during the day and not just afternoon like I am. No indication that they're getting rid of remote work considering how distributed teams are and have been at Spotify since it started in 2006, but who knows with how tech companies are going.
@Mendi_Tech I wish - for now it's scoped to London and Stockholm. Time will tell sadly not - scoped to London and Stockholm. If you're in either of those, you'd have a chance to do home-mix between part-time office and work, though.

LinkedIn appears to have removed today's post about how compromised cloud accounts are being used to power AI sex bots. Apparently the image that got auto-populated in the summary violated their content guidelines. Irony much?
