Few more steps forward we wouldn't have a keys player at all. Watch where you're going!' Perfect delivery, everyone bust out laughing. That's the way a response should be done.
I recently talked with a guy who builds software for small & medium sized German insurance firms and he says almost all of their clients are working on removing US services from their tech stack due to perceiving them as highly risky. This includes cloud services, office tools, AI tools, etc. So far he said the switch is a mixed bag with some successes and some blunders, but the push is very clear.
Highly anecdotal stuff, but maybe this cut is deeper than I expected.

@sesivany To je přesné, taky bych rád od nich slyšel něco podobného. Ale jediné co zatím k tomu řekli bylo to, že to nepůjde zrušit. To je panečku komunikace. Pak ty volby dopadnou, jak dopadnou 🫣
@fersman Jo, tohle je samozřejmě naprd, ale s tím si musí poradit. Nemají mluvit o ničem jiném než o tom, jak pracují na tom, aby to ty zranitelné nezasáhlo. Pokud se nechají vtáhnout do debaty o tom, jestli to ještě nejde zrušit, nebo jestli ty povolenky spekulativně nevyletí nahoru apod., tak se to rozmělní a média si z toho vytáhnou, co potřebují.
Mně se líbí, jak jsou ve feedu posty ze zprávobota. Zprávobot to tahá z X na Fediverse, odkud se to bridguje na Bluesky. Ještě by to mohl někdo z Bluesky tahat zpátky na X a kruh by se uzavřel. 🙂

So there's a decades-old mechanism (and actual standard) how programs lock serial ports on unix-like systems in /var/lock. it's used in practice even in 2025 and #systemd >= 258 simply breaks it with "we don't care". TL;DR; most browsers "read aloud" feature ignores element specific lang attribute, but dedicated screen readers like #NVDA and Apple #VoiceOver do fairly well!

Glad NVDA is working well switching languages in your tests! With the languages - note that NVDA uses Windows OneCore by default. It will happily switch languages AS LONG AS you have the voice pack for the new language installed in Windows. This post is old but should cover the process: nvaccess.org/post/in-process-1…
With eSpeak-NG, a popular synthesizer which we bundle with NVDA, it includes over 120 languages built in, from memory. And if using other synthesizers like Eloquence YMMV
Stuff worth mentioning here: 1. I went to Dubai for a few days, very much enjoyed the city, and purchased an Index Everest 5 Braille embosser. 2. I saw the Zoom H5 Studio and almost purchased it. However, I refrained as I thought I'd want the newer, more capable H6 Studio. It's not yet available in Dubai at least. 3. I updated to iOS 26 Beta 8, and so far my 16 Pro Max hasn't had any issues. 4. Finally, I stopped using NVDA alphas as the new ones have broken compatibility with many add-ons like MS Word Text Editor, ColumnsReview, BrowserNav, CloudVision, etc. I'm now with 2025.3 betas. @NVAccess
Thanks! It was awesome indeed. As far as NVDA goes, wish I could stay with alphas for more testing, but lack of access to essential add-ons makes it almost an impossibility. I'd like to have alphas on my work and home machines, and this has worked well over the past couple of years. But this time around add-ons have started to behave in a way that I can't fix them at my end.
And that is expected as we move towards more .1 changes. Remember you can have a portable alpha copy for testing and leave the stable (or 2025.3 beta) as your installed copy :)
Sure, but given my time constraints, dedicating extra time to the portable, alpha-based copy or install is a challenge in and out of itself. Wishful thinking, but wish NVAccess could finally do something for these frequent add-on breakages. Yes, you say it's with .1 releases. But it starts many months before each .1 release with alphas, and oftentimes add-ons are fixed near, or even after, the availability of a .1 release. This time around, we're almost 6 months away from the next .1 release, and no one knows when my add-ons will be fixed.
But alphas aren't designed to be your everyday, use with all add-ons setup. And we're starting early so we have time to make all the necessary changes for 64-bit and get them solid before getting near stable.
But on the filp side, yes we are working on a more solid, secure API which should largely overcome the add-on breakage issue.
I have an Everest. My company tried to tell me I should be using a tractor-fed basic but I won that argument. I use it regularly along with my Mantis and am quite happy, although I've not explored any sort of graphical options which people keep asking me about.
@clv0 No, I haven't tried newer Kawai digitals though I've heard good things about their actions. The P525 is a decent portable Yamaha piano and offers a flexible action as well.
My cat kept opening cupboards and ripping open food packets while I was at work. So I installed CCTV in the kitchen with a speaker so I can tell her her to stop from my desk at work. After 12 days she learned to knock the camera away first so I couldn't see. Clever girl.

To my ham pals. has anyone gotten zones to work with a screen reader in the open GD77 software? Creating zones and assigning channels to them is not a fun time.
Plugging into the thread as I haven't learnt that myself yet. Am on holiday at the moment so busy with other things but I'll try to receive some more information over the weekend.
So I have tinkered with the interface a bit. You can import CSV files with pre-made configurations for zones and channels. Some hams share their codeplugs online. I'm trying to obtain one for my area as someone promised them to me. I think this is the easiest if you'd like to setup all relays in your area in one go.

@techsinger ah see I did not even know those were hotkeys, the last time I used Outlook on PC I could see, and it was the old Mail app on Windows 10, so that would likely be the issue. Though I could not leave the edit field at all which was odd, like what if I needed to check the recipient info?
The new outlook... Look, the less said the better. It just raises my blood pressure :) As for leaving the field, shift+tab doesn't work, right? Have you tried with object nav? I have never used the new outlook, I'm sorry to be so useless, but I use thunderbird and the last outlook I used was 2013.
@techsinger Just specifically on shift+tab, it seems to .... be a little flakey - sometimes it does work from anywhere in the reply, but what I did find when I tested it, was that if it doesn't work, if you press control+home to jump to the top of the message, it does seem to work more reliably. I'm not 100% sure why and it behaved nicely when I tried to test it in order to write up an issue.... So do feel free to write up an issue if you can reliably repro it.
