Ableton Move's vision accessibility features, why they matter, and why musical instruments should be doing more industry-wide.

Finally got around to sharing more on this after @BorrisInABox brought it up and @Onj added some more - and they have some great feedback which I'm sure will reach Ableton.

The keyboard monitoring stuff in Mutter is getting closer and closer. The Mutter maintainers are okay with how the functionality works, so, now we're making it at least somewhat secure (I know, you can not reach 100% when the attacker's code has the same rights as your other processes, you would need sandboxing for something more), but yes, we can make it harder for casual misuse. Unfortunately, we'll have to very likely start with a hard-coded whitelist of app ids, so, Odilia devs, be prepared to make a MR to grab yours.

Okay, blind Linux heads. convince me that I can happily run Linux on this now Windows 10 rig. Has that whale screen reader gotten any better? As in, has it stopped crashing all the time? I've jumped into Linux a bunch of times, only to be frustrated and annoyed; oh, I think that's the same thing. Just curious if I can be just as efficient on that OS, without getting really angry.

Anthropic (Claude LLM) AI Company doesn’t want people using AI for their resumes or any part of Interview for software developer or IT jobs at their office. How ironic? LOL. The company says AI tools are flooding their system with bogus résumés and too many applicants. They can't find real talent even using their own AI system where candidates lie about their skills when resumes are created by AI.

I wanted to know more about THE VOICE, who defined movie trailers until his death in 2008.

This is amazing. His voice changed in the middle of a sentence when he was 13. The next day he didn't want to speak in class so his teacher got annoyed. He finally said, "so what do you want me to say," in his new baritone and got sent to the principal's office. 😃

Folk, don't start smoking. It's hard for many to stop and we lose too many good people to it.

Who wants to help out with using #bittorrent v2, which has file-based merkle trees, to be able to combine the smaller chunks of at-risk data scraped by many independent people, none of whom can store the whole thing?

It's the first time I've seen a real use case for Bittorrent v2, a cool p2p and interface design problem (also need to make the site capable of representing ragged, overlapping parent/child relationships, make it possible for people to "claim" chunks of a dataset as ones they are in the process of scraping), and all about making sure the fascists can't own the informational space and control what is allowed to be known.

Remember Aaron Swartz, because Zucc won't be getting any jail time for this.

Meta leeched over 80 terabytes of books of off torrents for commercial purposes. Not personal use. They made sure to not seed the books to cover their behinds.

When you do it, it's 30 years in prison, when they do it it's a fine.

Monday.
The child spent 12 hours plus at the theatre yesterday rehearsing and performing. unsurprisingly she's struggling this morning, the stage lights and late night have combined into a migraine, despite her preventative medication. so she's gone back to bed and we'll see if we can do an afternoon of school, which is better than nothing.

Ardent Rugby fan that the wife is, she missed her team playing yesterday due to being out and about. what could be more sensible after avoiding the score for the whole day than catching the highlights on the BBC, we thought? They also have a post-match analysis, presumably for those who want more depth and already new the score.

Sadly, the opening sentence of the programme gave away the winner. Not once during the highlight reel did they actually announce the score, nor did they announce it at any point. Very disappointing, I'd say. I've never tried to catch up on sport in this way, but it seems obvious that someone might want to use the highlights of a game they've missed? if you're watching it because you've already seen what happened, surely it's logical that putting the winner and final score at the end won't harm a recap? if, on the other hand, you've not seen the match ... Well. I think I've made my point. Thanks, Mother Beeb.

We are still in limbo week at work, the countdown to knowing if our jobs are safe is ticking on, making the atmosphere between colleagues frosty as well as the work ethic a bit tricky.
As the days go on, I feel less and less certain about the future. silly of me, the empiricist in me knows it's just a waiting game, but my Human side is pulling badly.

The dog is having a moment, too. She came and tapped on my office door (she used to climb up on a box and knock on the glass of the window, but we had to move the box due to heavy winds).
thereafter she decides I have to hold the office chair so she can sit on it and snuggle while I scroll through an accessibility report. 10 minutes or so later she flicks her ears and off she goes back up to the house.

I hope so too. Because other apps aren't very. Well, Talkback or accessibility friendly, at all, and there are quite a few of them. Not having a choice, quite frankly, sucks. I cleared the app data, so re-installing it shouldn't be necessary, it'll also break my great pleasing visual esthetic with super small screen widgets. But clearing out its data and checking for an update should, in theory, work.

filed a bug in #curl today, and i was shocked to see that there were only 16 open tickets! this is a level of both software maturity and, presumably, discipline in saying "no", that is really impressive.

and the type of stuff that has bugs is of course subtleties in the usage of http2 flow control with multiple parallel requests on a curl_multi; i wouldn't expect to find unreported bugs in anything less complex and obscure. also remarkable is that there is no clear workaround to the bug. feels a little special to manage to break it in such a way.

Meta staff torrented nearly 82TB of pirated books for AI training — court records reveal copyright violations

"...court records reveal that the social media company used pirated torrents to download 81.7TB of data from shadow libraries including Anna’s Archive, Z-Library, and LibGen. It then used this information to train its AI models."
