For any folks still out there using the #Rockbox firmware, I recently discovered the Hifi Walker H2 which is both officially supported, and more importantly, still being manufactured and sold. Flashing takes a bit of patience if you're #blind, but it can be done.
Huh I had no idea there were still modern devices coming out supported by Rockbox. @miki may find this useful in the future even if the price is very much nothing like a Sansa Clip lol. I'm guessing Rockbox doesn't support bluetooth so if you flash the firmware that's not something you can take advantage of?
For all of you radio hobbyists /geeks, listen up! Yeah, I'm talking to you! So lately I've been messing with this thing called FM DX Webserver. It is actually a website of list of servers you can connect to and listen to mostly FM radio, yes, analog FM radio. It is not a webSDR receiver, although it is like one in a nutshell. It also has RDS support. It's based off of an open source project on GitHub. You can host a server remotely than anybody can control the receiver and listen. github.com/NoobishSVK/fm-dx-we… this open source repository is for those that want to start a server. The radios that are compatible are the radios that have the TEF chips like the 6686 chip, and above. I know people like @douglas2005 who has the Codosen DX 286 like I do, but I'm not sure if you could actually host a server with that radio even though it has the TEF6686 chip, it probably has to be more of an advanced radio. Anyway, once you host the server you can share it to servers.fmdx.org, or if you don't want, you could just give whoever you want the link to be able to access the remote server. If you wanna access the list of servers available, here's the link for that. servers.fmdx.org/ for screen reader users, when you go to the site, click on the receiver list button. Then you'll see a whole list of servers. You can navigate those by headings. When you find one, you can click on it and read all the info about it, and if you want to connect to it just hit connect, and it'll take you to the website where that server is hosted. To play audio you can hit the play/pause button. I noticed that there has been some audio issues playing on iOS devices, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with Apple's strict audio settings for the browser. But I can get audio to play on my PC just fine. To navigate frequencies just go to the spin box and go hit left or right arrow, or just type in a frequency, for example, 89.500. Some servers also have AM but mostly the servers you'll see are FM. I'll be definitely using this over the upcoming weeks, as spring has sprung, and summer will soon be upon us, and the FM band opens up a lot. But it's also cool to hear stuff from other places, it's like if I ran a server from where I am in Ohio, you could hear some Ohio stuff.

@mkoek my guess is that they bought the AI hype. Mostly nativity and incompetence, maybe mixed with a desire to actually do good but not the least a desire to get a bounty.
I'm using DuckDuckGo but I wonder what the alternatives are. I would love the EU, for example, to set up a strategic programme of non-enshittified search that is designed to underpin and support society and business. No doubt there will be political pressures, but an arms-length para-non-statal that receives a direct grant might be a real boon for people.
I am using #Qwant and #DuckDuckGo. I fall back to #Google for some special searches, but I avoid being logged in. I am preparing to delete my Google account.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the stupid Not Search Result that takes up half the page...
YouTube has also recently hobbled its search, like they're pushing the people down and away, hiding us from each other because the One Great AI knows all and why would we want to search for what humans do anyway?
I have used @Mojeek since 2022, though for nearly 12 years before that it was Duck Duck Go. In late 2009 it was already apparent that Google was suspect, so I began de-Googling.
I have seven browsers installed on my desktop, of which I use three regularly, and each of the six has a different search engine. None of them is Google.
I tried a few, but have to admit Google has some nice features I miss. When I search for a place, I like to have the option to see it on a map and to see those place summary pages that Google created. Also the results seem to be more relevant in Google. But of course it doesn't mean I'm not showing Google my middle finger and switching to Quant!
DuckDuckGo everywhere. Fennec on android, Firefox on Linux and at work Chrome. All of them using DDG as the default search.
Sometimes I try a search on Google too, but seldom. I just wished that map search would be better. I'm still often using maps.google.xxx. OSM maps are often not up to date too...
I use DuckDuckGo but have also used Brave, Startpage and Vivaldi. On a different note. NextDNS is really good at blocking in-app and online tracking but have been unsuccessful combining it with my vpn - so don't use it now.
Hi Guys, wanted too upto you that i've gone back to the Startpage browser as its even more private than Duckduckgo. Also, when i was using startpage with nextdns, nextdns showed that startpage searches used the highest percentage of DNSSEC 33% where's duckduckgo was between 3-4%.
Personally i use startpage, it retains a lot of the useful search features that other search engines don't have (like the calculator widget, wikipedia widget, and probably other ones too)

just wish my university would let us submit assignments in .ODF format, as we can only really use Word... and as a Linux user that means Word Online, which is slow and clunky.
@toran Oh no! Ask your uni why they won't accept standardised formats, and force students to use specific software. It's the exact opposite of what unis should be doing. If they say "We use Microsoft Office/365", point out that Microsoft also supports ODF so they should at least accept documents in that format!

Sorry, but unfortunately it's not quite that rosy. It's only a small federal state that is changing over. I could share the euphoria more if it were one of the big states in the south of Germany. Unfortunately, the city of Munich switched back to Microsoft when they built their German office there 😒
I'd be surprised if the German #bundesregierung really will switch to open standards. The new conservative government will soon realise who is able to pay more.
