i thought about it a little on and off, and i kinda wonder if instead of relying on cookies or w/e to present that it has a pass, what if the server instead kept a TTL database of currently allowed IPs, where you could then run the challenge from anything on your network (including a cli tool if you wanted) and have that access pass apply to everything else under the same IP

and then once its done it requires nothing from whatever browser or application is accessing it for however long the pass lasts, not even a cookie or auth token

I really wish more politicians understood that giving people benefits stimulates the economy. It's not some black hole the money disappears into. But it drives growth. Part of the reason the UK economy is so lackluster, is that the amount we provide to those most in need is so punitively low. If we doubled benefits, increased the eligibility, it would be a massive boost to the economy, and to society.

And above all. It would be more humane than the current approach.

And do we have a graph that shows when a vulnerability was used (first use to beeing fixed) in the x axis and the age of the vuln in the y axis? But I don't expect that we have such data, or so unreliable it's not even useful.

The question I try to answer is "are very old vulns used in practice, and is it as big of a deal as I think at first glance?".

Because the is a chance that if researchers didn't found them earlier, pirates didn't either.

The Threat Beneath: Hidden In-Chip Operating Systems

Modern CPUs from Intel and AMD ship with undocumented, embedded operating systems (Intel ME, AMD PSP) that run below your OS—at ring -3—with full system access and zero user control.

What’s at risk?

Persistent backdoors, remote code execution, firmware implants
Nation-state exploitation (NSA, China’s APTs, Shadow Brokers leaks)
Hidden microcontrollers that can operate even when powered “off”

the only reason they use the FLIRT or the FLINT is because the incompetent people in charge wanted DMU because we are a failed petrostate

(I don't think that's the reason but I can't find another justification)

@cachondo They admit that factor, but it’s not the whole story. They refer to an earlier study where the subjects “were mostly trained in the *camel-case style*” where the result was similar, but not as pronounced (13.5% vs 20%): “Comparing this result to the original study, we can say that with more experience (training), the effect of identifier style on performance is reduced, but not eliminated.”

Nouvelle semaine, nouveau #mastobada.

Trying to float the idea of having the env var CI=true default to `curl -sSfL` but @bagder does not like it ;-)

1.Download curl.se using #curl built to use OpenSSL (that is over HTTPS in case Mastodon hides the scheme for you)
2. count number of allocations made with heaptrack
3. pause for gasping
4. double-check that curl only does 134 allocs itself, independently of the downloaded size
5. check the heaptrack number again

After so many years, NVDA add-ons still keep surprising me. Today I found a mod of the Enhanced Find Dialog add-on which, apart from its interesting features like search history, replaces the annoying Not found error message with a single "not found" text announcement, like JAWS. So if you find the last or first instance of something, there'll be no need to dismiss the "Not found" error message via Escape. Really neat!

I posted "writing C for #curl" just a short while ago, which is relevant to the recent "C mistake" graphs.

Admittedly this is just a skit but it’s a good one never the less. The sad thing is, I could totally see it happening given the current climate.

“For hours I was in their custody – phone and all devices confiscated, very rude bullying interrogation, threatening me with jail time. After (a) couple hours of this, they ultimately ordered to send me back home to Prague,” Skuta wrote.
