Got my MNT Pocket Reform. It’s definitely unlike anything else I’ve used, part good, part headache. The keyboard is a nightmare — no bumps on F and J, and every key is just a small concave circle, so shift, space, enter, backspace, all of it feels exactly the same. The build is solid, nicely balanced, screws are easy to find and open, so no complaints there. But even turning it on is an issue. Supposedly there’s a standby switch, but I can’t feel one anywhere. There’s just a hole on the left side that looks like a SIM eject slot, but sticking a tool in feels like it would just sink straight through.
Figured out the standby switch. It’s that tiny hole on the left side — you have to poke it with a tool. Doesn’t actually turn the machine on, it just takes the batteries out of shipping mode.
Apparently to turn the MNT Pocket Reform on I need to press Hyper + Enter. Slight problem: I have no idea where the Hyper key is, and no idea where Enter is either.
I've got the mnt pocket reform booted, but have already managed to trash the image by trying to bypass the currently inaccessible setup wizard, so investigating other potential avenues to configure the system.
It's not all doom and gloom though, as from this experience, I can confirm that the mnt team, at least @mntmn is very helpful and want MNT products to be accessible!
Well that's great and all, but sounds like that keyboard is a big ol accessability fail! You could hook an external keyboard to it but there goes portability...I'd be returning it just based on the keyboard if it were me. I bet you'll stick with it though which is admirable.
@GamingWithEars It's not too bad once you add bump ons to f and j. The keyboard definition file is in the source tree, which defines all the keys row by row.

Well, I have a very dodgy but kinda working CLAP plugin which captures audio output from a specific Windows app and brings it into REAPER. The audio is very glitchy, the process id to capture is hard-coded, etc., but it's definitely possible. 210 lines of code and about 5 hours of work so far.
That's intriguing... Can it also be made to go the other way, I.E. send from a plugin to a Windows process, or even just to a generic audio device? This, of course, when other stuff is working better...
@BorrisInABox Actually, while you can't send to a specific process, it probably is possible to send to a generic audio device. I'm not sure if that's much more useful than VAC repeater or something, though I guess it could be if your DAW is using ASIO and so normal repeaters can't access that audio. What sort of use case are you thinking? You wouldn't be able to get audio into another app without a virtual audio driver of some sort that reflects output to input. Of course, there are several such drivers, but they're all painful in one way or another. I guess VAC is okay though.
@BorrisInABox I haven't investigated whether there's already a plug-in that does that, so it's probably worth checking that too. I wrote this one because although System Audio Bridge exists, it captures the whole device, not just a single app, which is annoying unless (again) you want to faf about with virtual audio drivers.
@x0 @BorrisInABox Yeah, frustration with solutions like SAR and ASIO Link Pro is why I ended up writing this. I actually have ASIO Link Pro working fairly well here, but it's a major screw around if I need to reconfigure anything.
Years ago, I would sometimes use Reaper as a mixer/audio processor with all asio inputs with a control surface, then stream to an Icecast server with Voxengo Record. I never got any of those Asio whatever things to work particularly well, so an audio interface with enough I/O, ReaRoute and Voxengo (mostly) worked. There were no glitches in the audio, anyway. But having the ability to inject specific processes would be even better for input.
Wowzers, only 210 lines! Not trivializing the skills required to write those of course, I just thought the line count would be higher by the time you'd gotten something cookin'.

@FreakyFwoof I guess? Not familiar with that beyond the very basics of it being used to capture app audio. Knowing Windows audio, it's probably far less powerful, but I'll take this over having to set up wild driver craziness.
@ToniBarth Maybe we could contribute some of the GUI gruntwork to this in a few of our sessions Toni? I'm thinking: 1. Minimum GUI could be a browse button, loads Open dialog, choose app to capture. Or 2. Easier for users, a combo box that populates with active PIDs and a Refresh button.
@Scott @ToniBarth I think a list of pids would be easier. But there can be a hell of a lot of running processes, so I'm not sure how usable that would be. A list of foreground windows might be nicer, but that means you can't choose a process with no UI window like NVDA. There are multiple reasons a GUI for this is going to be annoying. Before we even get to this, we need to figure out how to hook up a Win32 GUI to a CLAP plugin in an accessible way.
@ToniBarth iPlug2 can do HTML5/CSS GUIs, can build CLAP plug-ins, the lead dev has a long history with Cockos and knows what accessibility is. Does that help at all?
@Scott @ToniBarth Hmm, I'd probably have to rewrite from scratch to use a framework now. HTML might have been nice and easy, so that's unfortunate. Oh well. I have had some success getting the GUI scaffolded, but am running into an issue where the tab key won't move through controls despite me doing all the things you're supposed to do with Win32 sub-dialogs. Very frustrating.
@ToniBarth @Scott Thinking of adding a "Capture audio from all applications" option as well, but I probably need to warn about feedback for that. Also, any idea on a better name for the "Apply" button? Is just "Capture" too vague? "Start capture" is perhaps better, except once you start it, it's already started, so it might not be clear that it applies the new settings.
@Scott @ToniBarth I was concerned that just "Capture" might make someone think it would just do something brief rather than starting something that keeps going, but maybe it's fine. "Capture app" is problematic when excluding apps or capturing everything, so I'd just go with "Capture" in that case.
@ToniBarth Would it be complicated to make the combo box a list instead? I'm wondering whether someone (cough, probably you) could reuse the code from OSARA's preset list to add a search filter?
@Scott @ToniBarth Why a list? Filtering is possible with either; e.g. the filter in the OSARA Parameters dialog filters a combo box. Type ahead is better in a list I guess, but if you have a filter, that's easier than both.
@Scott @ToniBarth So which do you want more: type ahead or filter? I'm not inclined to do both, since they effectively solve the same use case. I can't even remember why we did a list view for the presets list given that we have a filter there.
@Scott @ToniBarth Nope; that dialog only changes the preset when you press OK. The type of list control wouldn't make a difference. Must have just been type ahead, but it has a filter anyway, so... 🤷♂️
@Scott @ToniBarth Observe how my reaction to any GUI related change is: hmm, is there some way I can avoid or minimise this while still improving the experience for users? Haha.
@Scott @ToniBarth Even if I wanted to do more messing about with signing, which is also something I hate, I don't think I can. I think driver signing has additional requirements I can't reasonably meet; e.g. being a company. Otherwise, I probably would.
@ToniBarth Either type ahead or alphabetical sorting would be a big help. Imagine you're trying to find NVDA, you hit N a bunch of times listening for the start of a match, but if you go one too far, there's no way to navigate backward by that same letter, and it could be who knows how many arrow-ups to find what you were looking for.
@ToniBarth I'm working on a Rust app. Check out Slint. 1.13.0 supports AccessKit. I'm just getting started with it. I may need to make some of their custom components accessible to get full functionality in the app. But standard widgets all have accessibility. It also has event handling.
@ppatel I did check out slint, its not the UI framework that makes VST plugin development so hard, its the window provider. Winit works just fine, however VST plugins don't work with Winit as you need a window handler that does support child windows, and those aren't natively accessible with AccessKit yet. Discussions with @matt yielded that it shouldn't be to hard to adapt those or develop a wrapper, but i'm not smart enough right now.
@ToniBarth @ppatel To clarify, the problem is that winit can only create top-level windows and also wants to own the event loop. For a VST plugin, you need to be able to create a child window and integrate into the host application's event loop. baseview (github.com/RustAudio/baseview) can do this, but as far as I know, nobody has written AccessKit support for baseview yet, and I don't think slint supports baseview.
@ppatel You should double check whether slint has implemented full accessibility for edit controls yet. That has been a limitation for a long time. I think I would have heard if that had been implemented, but maybe I missed it somehow.
@matt Looks like both LineEdit and TextEdit are standard widgets. They appear to have full accessibility. I'll implement something quick later today to make sure. So far, I've tested buttons, list boxes, check boxes, and combo boxes. I'm focusing on app logic first before I do much else.

When composing a message in the Android app, empty lines are not shown before one writes some visible characters after the empty lines. That's confusing - I can't see whether I entered empty lines and how many. Could you change this behaviour, please?
great updates! Something I've been curious about and holsing me back from your calendar is event invites. This is because I struggled to make them work with other open source calendars previously and I'm highly skeptical of digital calendars (even though I'd like to break away from Google).
For example, I tested out a CalDav server as well as Murena calendar quite extensively last year and was disappointed that when inviting others or being invited. I don't like email notifications in general, but not even those would send most of the time and when they did I had to manually download the calendar event and add it. Is this similar to how calendar invites work on Tuta calendar?

well that's debatable, if you draw the line at kernel vs network card then you can easily have "LAN like IPs" that are just local. For example the default `bridge` network in Docker to communicate between containers on a single host.
I think that's a reasonable proposal, but one that will require a long, permissive ramp period. In my experience, especially in lower environments, people are lazy and a binary switch will require a long passive introduction period.

We really need a legislation to force Android vendors that are selling their phones in EU to allow "bootloader unlocking".
Like, come on. It's literally a one-bit check by an "application" before loading the Linux kernel. Yet, vendor after vendor is removing the ability to skip this check for muh "security".
It's never about security, it's about control. If you can't install your own OS, they can collect your data to sell and push ads onto you. It's basically like buying a laptop in 2008 with Windows Vista and pre-loaded malware that made it unusable. Everyone wiped it and installed a clean copy of XP or Linux, imagine being unable to do that...
If we don't stand up to vendors, in the future they'll take this option away. I hope they realize there'll be no reason to buy Android anymore (no way to "sideload" due to Play Protect, no way to replace the OS/remove GApps) and everyone will go "fuck it, I'm just gonna get an iPhone".
For many years Android/iOS duopoly was unbreakable, but thanks to Google's recent (stupid) decisions this could (and I hope will) change. Current "smartphones" are just the prefect tools of digital dystopia.
I would be really cautious with the wording. Instead "bootloader unlocking" I would force something as "alternative system installation with posibility to apply same security measures" as much broader set of features is needed to install OS.
You want to allow unlock bootloader, flash custom OS, load custom cetificates/keys/... to bootloader, relock the bootloader, verify and boot alternative OS signed with alternative keys.
Fingerprint reader functionality under #Linux sucks.
1. Every few reboots/updates/whatever-triggers it, the fingerprint functionality GETS DISABLED all by itself. The bug is there in BOTH Ubuntu and Arch Linux ( #gnome ).
2. GDM won't let me choose between pass & fingerprint reading. This has repercussions for gnome's keyring.
3. Because the keyring is not unlocked, launching things like Chrome requires you to type a password! Again!
True. Unlocking account without also unlocking keyring is useless. And it is quite unreliable. After several sleep modes, fingerprint reader just doesn't work. But this is probably firmware/driver problem.
@stepan Yes, it happens after waking up, after reboots (but not consistent when it happens). I don't know who's bug it is, Canonical should not have put their stake on this laptop that came preinstalled with Ubuntu and it's supposedly "fully supported".
@stepan same thing here. If I interpret the crash log correctly, the fingerprint reader is connected via mobo internal USB hub and simply not (yet?) available directly after wakeup. So either the process should wait until peripherals are online or do something else until they are. Now it just terminates. Problem is, I have no experience at all fixing something like that…

I need to get a sign made for the public wild space and I'm struggling to find a signmaker that will do it. Aside from recommendations for anyone who could make a weatherproof B/VI-accessible sign in the UK it would help to know:
* We have been told more visually impaired people are able to read raised text over braille. Is that likely, would raised text be the more inclusive option? * We're planning to note the length of the nature path on the sign, which we assume would be helpful (please correct me on that though) but we also want to note the location of a bench. Is this practically useful? * The bench is just off the main path, literally next to it. What would be the best way to indicate its location so it could be found. By distance from the sign? * If you do use signage in community spaces or wish there were more, what other information might you want to have on the sign apart from the above, and contact details? We are reaching out to local organisations to raise awareness of the nature walk too.

I made a tool for generating a Yggdrasil key/address so you can template your configs and dynamically deploy nodes that will be able to all mesh with each other.
It's kinda clunky trying to figure out how to consistently generate and deploy the configs otherwise. You'd have to generate a config normally just to get the key, but you won't know the address it will be, then try to apply your changes to that config, etc etc
