yes. Android might actually show another notification that says "something is executing in the background but got muted" (essentially). You can mute that as well :D. Everything should still work.
URLs is a dear subject of mine on this blog, as readers might have noticed. "URL" is this mythical concept of a string that identifies a resource online and yet there is no established standard for its syntax.

@markuswerle I recall them doing numbers on a typical node.js startup a few years ago and it was a fascinating large amount of URLs to parse, so it at least then showed some impact. Contrary to what you'd expect...
They don't seem to show the version of curl, at least I couldn't see it on that page.
But this brings up a more general point that I've thought about before: ideally benchmarks between implementations should be done by independent parties, or at least peer-reviewed by all parties, but that's quite rare. I've been wanting to have something like that for my backup implementation work, from time to time.

@Di4na This may be slightly off-topic, or maybe not, but Inno Setup (a fairly popular installer creator for Windows) recently added an option to purchase a license for commercial use (after using zlib-like license for over 25 years), though this was much simpler for them, as there are only two main developers and very few external contributors.
@jernej__s @Di4na sure, the old GPL / commercial license setup is commercially certainly viable and probably profitable, but also effectively stops external contributions. Not a route I want to go with curl until all other options or alternatives have been drained.

Politicians in Germany ride this dead horse for a decade now and the Federal Constitutional Court already ruled against 2 attempts to implement digital mass surveillance. I doubt that they won't try again. German partys like CDU/CSU and SPD are FOR this. They're already focused on using Palantir for datamining everywhere.

I've just released App2Clap, a CLAP plug-in that captures audio from a specific Windows application. It can be used, for example, to record audio from another application into a DAW like #REAPER. @BorrisInABox Apparently it works for @Scott and he's on Win10. Theoretically, it should, but the OBS devs ran into issues with Win10 which I don't want to deal with, but Scott's findings make me think maybe those bugs were fixed. Try it and see. It will either work or it won't.

I don't know who the author is or how bad that is or why, but assuming it's about their personal views, I wish more people realized about all the thousands of people building Windows and OSX and so on, which we know nothing about but surely there are many baddies. All to say, I try to have a thicker skin in the open source world, while still advocating for us all to be better. We're under a bigger microscope and are held to a higher standard. It's hard to compete with secrecy.

Haven't counted Christoph's list lazka.github.io/pgi-docs/ but let's say 50-80 libs? That's a lotta work or a lotta stuff left behind. Assuming only the core api.pygobject.gnome.org/ gets preferred treatment.
libraries *today* are using GTypeInstance; and GTK6 is not even on the radar right now. The entire point of this incremental change is to allow to progressively port newly written types and methods to GTypeInstance (which is already supported by bindings, since it's the basis of GObject and it's already used by GTK and other libraries).

This is a rough strawman I put together after various discussions I had during GUADEC 2023 on the future of the GObject type system, introspection, language bindings, and the GNOME application development platform.
@ebassi A dense block of info you wrote there :) I knew gobject was some kinda c plus structs and fnctptrs equals cpp plus rtti or vala and more. And it is reasonable to clean up, like the move from x11 geometric primitives to opengl.
I'll try to express my concern more unconfusedly :D Assuming i write my tinkerer's python like import gi; from gi.repo import xyz;
bindings will paper over any change when it comes to objects; for the rest: the API will change when it needs to change, just like it happens for every major new version. Some things may even get more Pythonic out of the box.
I don't think you have to worry about anything at the moment: this is an in-progress experiment, and we haven't even started working on GTK5, let alone GTK6. Plus, as I said: language bindings developers are engaged in this effort.
Sony XM6 still sucks like Xm5. Gosh. What a disappointment. After a month in, Sonos Ace is winning over all of them. XM6 has come out to be very sweat-trapping over time on the earcups, compared to Sonos ace. The right earcup tap sensor will sometimes register phantom taps when I'm not wanting it to and until I reboot it won't stop doing so. Quirks like that. So nope, no Xm7 for me. Also no Bose QC Ultra. After 2.5 years, a slight electric static noise began to come around on the right earcup. Little electric swirl. Bose can go suck it. For me Sonos wins them over by a longshot. Their new QC Ultra refresh launching in October has no interest to me.
I agree about the Sonos Ace. I've had it over a year now. It's the best purchase. It's transparency is as good as Airpods Max and it's not as heavy. I reach for the Max when I want to listen to classical. otherwise, it's the Ace for me. There is a bit of electric noise when in transparency mode as well as ANC. It's on the right hand side. I can ignore it for the most part.
@luiscarlosgonzalez ah yeah. It's definitely an upgrade over the XM5. But it keeps the same cheap plastic (I dropped mine outside once, and now the edges of the left cup have slight nics in them), does add folding, and sadly extends that right earcup sensor to be more edge-to-edge, as in, even almost around the lip of the round cup's outside. I think the best quality was in XM4, and it's a shame they didn't go back to that level of workmanship with the Xm6 - more so like they took the cheap qualities about the XM5 to add folding alongside with.

I'd like a #GitHub feature that extracts/offers the text from images/screenshots (so that we can replace the images) to improve issues and bug reports where people ANNOYINGLY insist on using images for text.
i would have crawled across broken glass for this when i was doing tech support for a FOSS project. windoze users were the worst offenders at the time.
I mostly got such issues from new computer science students. Most of the time not a screenshot but a photo of their laptop screen showing the piece of code they‘re struggling with.
interestingly, using AI for this would be useful and could probably work quite well. Instead we have AI bot for reviews that you can't disable... Oh well...
