Today has been seriously giving me kind of hope when I think about it. I've been sitting in front of my computer from morning to evening, configuring a bunch of software on this raspberry pi mainly with the help of Claude, watching YouTube videos and documentations, for example IceCast, DarkIce, UpSnap in docker. And I'm satisfied. Yes, I'm actually satisfied, everything works, even after a reboot. And I just hope it keeps stable and running and I can continue to build on that foundation. Tailscale runs as an exit node and subnet router. All little step by step things but it feels great. I think I overthought the entire thing rather than just actually starting it and seeing that it isn't that ultra insanely difficult. Things will surely break, but also heavily improve over time, but it has shown me that I can still be productive and actually do something and not just procrastinate in boredom in front of this device. Next steps are getting a VPS to act as a reverse proxy for IceCast and some other services which this Pi is going to run very soon.
When I digitized videos from my father's VHS tapes, I found footage of the 1997 floods taken in Luhačovice and the surrounding area. The floods were massive and claimed over 100 lives. In Luhačovice, it wasn't as dramatic thanks to the protection of the dam, but even so, it was the most water since its construction in 1930.
I think I'm confused. I've had Python 3.12 on this Windows 11 x64 computer for a couple years. I just installed Python 3.14, hoping it might fix the error I get when installing the wave package. I still have c:\python312, but no c:\python314. If I type python into run, I get 3.12. There are no variables referring to Python. defined, and c:\python312 is not on my system path.
1. Where did 3.14 install to? 2. How do I change my default python to 3.14? 3. How is 3.12 being found at all?

I've been playing with Orpheus TTS (not the old screen reader synthesizer, a new one that claims to be natural). It's not for real-time use, but rather, you give it a chunk of text and it gives you a .wav file. It runs locally. It sounds okay, but Tara, the default voice, has what almost sounds like room noise. It's very odd. If you try it, remove wave>=0.0.2 from requirements.txt or you might get installation errors. github.com/isaiahbjork/orpheus…

Ve #whatsapp aplikaci přibyla ikona #AI a prý nejde vypnout, to mě bytostně se.. Bohužel musím wh používat kvůli práci, nevíte někdo, není nějaký alternativní klient pro Android, abych nemusel používat nativní app?
Mně se povedlo dostat skoro celou rodinu na MXChat (Matrix) a WhatsApp mám už jen kvůli práci – máme ho přemostěný do Matrixu, takže mi všechny zprávy chodí tam.
Volání přes most nejde, ale aspoň mi přijde notifikace, že někdo volal → pak buď otevřu WhatsApp a zavolám zpět, nebo zavolám normálně.
Jediná nevýhoda: WhatsApp stejně musí být v telefonu. Most totiž používá webové rozhraní (WhatsApp Web / linked device), takže telefon musí být připojený k internetu, aby to fungovalo. WhatsApp appka nemusí být pořád otevřená – stačí ji jen občas spustit.

We don't really know what it is, but there's something *besides* guns that causes it.
There has been an extremely significant uptick in mass schootings in the US in recent years, which isn't supported by a significant enough liberalisation of gun rights in that period. There has to be something else going on.
With that said, guns are a *necessary first step* that makes mass shootings possible, but there's more to them than just access to guns.
Whatever the trend is, even Europe isn't fully immune from it either, see e.g. the attacks in Berlin a few years ago where a person drove a truck into a large crowd of pedestrians. The tool is different, the effect is similar.
Does anyone have these things that they love and would recommend:
- Bluetooth speaker (portable) Not smart. I don't need to ask it anything. Just something I can connect to that will make good music sounds in my house.
- CD player Something modern that connects to the computer so again I can throw it out to speakers. Or something that connects direct to speakers? But being able to rip CDs like the olden days would also be good.
I have a JBL Go2 speaker, a tiny little one, but it's kind of old. So I'd search something in their model range, quite decent. As for a CD player, I'm interested myself, but I don't have anything to recommend except for super expensive and niche devices for the blind like the Victor Stratus of a previous model 😊

does memory and cpu usage grow faster than O(n) with respect to the length of the URL? If so, it should be made smaller, I think. Otherwise perhaps not?
the report claims it does, but I cannot reproduce that so I think no. Still, if we don't need this large URLs we could also just cut down to decrease the risk of another future issue in the similar spirit.
many servers will reject by default urls above 8k. But there are probably special setups out there.
Other things start to break when urls go beyond 64k. h2 may have a problem with its header handling (although headers are outside the stream's window size).
h3 will have problems with initial congestion windows where headers count for the window.
I think 64k would therefore be a limit that should not by itself pose problems.
since I assume curl doesn't need to deal with hash manipulation in JS and data URLs, a limit of Kb might be OK. In Firefox we got bugs when we tried to limit it, because the hash would contain encoded data, or data URLs would encode images or video.
As a person who absolutely loves lock-free and wait-free algorithms, I have a suggestion - just don’t. There lies madness and sorrow. And also endless beauty, but mostly madness.
not that I think that it matters a lot but there are networks that do quotas per tcp stream and having multiple streams would actually make it really faster.
