I really despise those days and weeks where I am just not able to finish the tune. It’s so close, but I just can’t come up with any more ideas. I tell myself: “just wait, there is another day”, but for some reason, that day does not come. It was so much easier in the days of playing in a band. So much harder to have to generate all the ideas on your own! :)

Hey @ppatel we are reading the “covenant of Water” and I can hardly find the word to express my amazement at the quality of writing, storytelling and reading (given that the author reads the book himself). I also learned quite a bit about the history of India, especially in those pre-independence days. Still 12 hours to go though! Thanks for the reco! #literature #books #fiction

Here’s a recording that I made on Friday morning of the sounds of the hurricane from my deck. I used an H1E, with two windscreens on it, as well as surrounded by a towel to prevent wind from blowing into the sides of the recorder as well. The extreme, low end was removed afterwards, so that you could actually hear something other than just the wind. dropbox.com/scl/fi/n1unh9f1e63…

@jcsteh I have obsession with ocean sounds! You can hear anything you want in them! :)

I was looking for a movie trailer on YouTube... and it's getting full of AI-generated trailers made by randos of movies that don't exist!? WTF?
in reply to Federico Mena Quintero

Fake trailers were a problem before AI. Before, they'd be cut up from previous films in the series or other films the actors had appeared in.
in reply to Federico Mena Quintero

One caller asked for help finding her brother. Another needed info about evacuation routes. A third worried if a nearby dam was about to burst. And many callers said "I'm just so proud of my neighbors."

Found a way to still save money. Get two BOGO burgers from A&W for $23 and change in savings. Add fries, and all in, its $41.70. Not bad for four burgers and fries, taxed, delivered, and tipped.

Yikes! That's very expensive.Your 41 dollars are more than 80Bgn xd. I could buy food for long long time with this.

I sometimes wonder why all the FLOSS #mahjong #games on Linux are always the boring American "mahjong solitaire" version, never the traditional "street" mahjong, which is 100x more stimulating.

It would be so cool if #GNOME's #Mahjongg game (or a derivative) had a multiplayer-like mode, the one played by uncles in the streets of Hong Kong (youtube.com/watch?v=qzcmCvOM2K…), but with the computer as opponents (like in the embedded video below, or most computer chess games)…

A stupid question to powerful #Mastodon users. Is there a web page where I can get all the users of a particular instance? Not feeds, not timelines, just users, either names or profiles? Thanks! #MastoAdmin
in reply to André Polykanine

Well, mastodon servers have profile directories, but those are, wildly incomplete.
in reply to André Polykanine

you can try the directory but it’s also predicated on anyone that opted into being discoverable

Hey everyone!
It’s been a bit quiet around here for the past few months, but we’ve been busy behind the scenes, stirring up something big. After lots of thinking, testing, and a few metaphorical cake disasters, we’ve decided to completely rewrite TweeseCake from scratch!
Why, you ask? Well, the current app is a bit like trying to ice a cake that’s crumbling—it’s unstable and tricky for us to add those tasty new features you’ve been asking for. So, we figured it’s time to start fresh and bake something better.
The new version of TweeseCake will be a whole lot more flexible (think custom sessions in the future), way more stable, and packed with extra power for all you sweet-toothed users out there. Our initial focus will be on perfecting the Mastodon session type, but trust us, this new framework will let us cook up even more awesome features in the future.
Progress is well underway, with a lot of the core framework already written. But don’t worry, the current app isn’t getting tossed out entirely; it’ll still get some updates, just fewer fancy new layers for now.
So, keep your forks ready—TweeseCake next gen is coming, and it’s going to be a slice of something special!
What you can expect:
* More flexibility (customise as much as possible).
* Translatable.
* Custom sessions (for the developers out there; note that this will come later).
* More stability (we hope!).
* Best of all, easier to maintain!

I am glad `<datalist>` saw some fixes in Safari, as spotted by @adactio adactio.com/journal/21445

However, other bugs (such as the ones I link from JAWS and Firefox) are still open as well as voice control challenges and text size issues:

So nothing likely changes in your support landscape. Yes, this still makes me sad.

I was so excited for a long time when I read the news @thunderbird got a new push and people are working on it, and on an android version too... After all this time, I'm still get excited when I see updates, but I always realise I'll not use it as I moved to @protonprivacy 100% a few years ago with everything and I don't have any other server I would use. Now they are open for beta testing (mastodon.online/@thunderbird/1…) and I don't even have an email address to use it with. :/
in reply to Efertone

Thanks for sharing your story and we'd love if Proton Mail users had the option to use Thunderbird for Android, like they can use the Desktop app, in the future! And if that happens, we'll always be here to try :)

I'm... sort of becoming hopeful that we might just get on top of this whole climate change thing at some point?

I don't want to rock the doomer boat too much, but the uptake of renewables over the past year or two has been utterly staggering. The numbers feel made up.

Yesterday I attempted to create my first iOS shortcut. All I wanted to do is the following: create a folder where I can store my most favorite shortcuts, display that list on the screen and let me run a shortcut from the list. Of course, the idea is to assign this to an Action Button. In theory, it’s a very uncomplicated shortcut. Yet, why does iOS keep saying that “cannot find such a shortcut” when I run one from the list? All the variables seem to be in the right place. (1/2)
in reply to victor tsaran

The shortcut king as far as I'm concerned is @jakobrosin. He has many, many of them.
in reply to Andre Louis

Oooo thanks for that. Jakob, where is your shortcut treasure bin? :)

@FreakyFwoof Haha I haven’t actually published any as most are highly personalised and I’d need to polish a lot of stuff to get them public. But I’m mostly running a few automations here and there. For example when opening Zoom / any other videoconferencing app, my phone automatically goes into my meetings focus, whic in turn limits notifications and calls. A sleep focus change triggers a toggle in my home assistant which in turn does a bunch of stuff in my home automation sphere, changing speakers behaviours, checking a few sensors ETC. And I’ve got an action button shortcut which does do different things based on my location and phone focus at the moment. There are also a few battery related automations, such as turning on low power mode earlier than iOs does it, and turning it off again… I am shure I forget things.
in reply to victor tsaran

It is funny i tried to build that exact same shortcut on sunday night. I bound a solution in the"shortcuts reddit, this shortcut looks"at a spesipic folder and lists all the shortcuts within that"particular folder.

I always wanted a trashcan Mac Pro, so I found a 12-core one with 64GB of RAM. And, it's great, but I can't come close to stressing its memory capacity. Any ideas?

I may have to resort to desperate measures and start up a single Slack desktop instance.

People who are into “Accessible PDFs” will say “you can add a hidden structure to your PDF, so screen reader users can read them”. Which is like only the smallest slice of what makes something accessible. It’s the “there is an elevator at the back that gives you access through the kitchen and the toilet is on another floor in another building” of digital accessibility.
