The LA Times editorial board voted to endorse Kamala Harris

The LA Times owners vetoed the endorsement

Now the head of the LA Times editorial board has resigned in protest

THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA PROFITS OFF TRUMP — they have an inherent bias and must NOT be taken at face value

the idea that something must be bad because it’s bad as done in the united states does follow almost logically from the idea that the united states does everything better than everywhere in the world, which is the underlying assumption of more people than will admit it

Do not seize the day. This will startle the day and may cause it to become aggressive and give you a nasty bite.

Instead approach the day calmly without making eye contact, pet it gently, and slowly enfold it in a careful embrace.

If the day shows any signs of resistance to being engaged with, it is likely to turn on you. Back off and return to bed.

The social value of rustfmt and the default Rust style is absolutely incredible. I saw someone the other day talking about the annoyance of having people reformat other people's code in a PR and do so differently/inconsistently. And I had this reaction of "...oh, yeah, that used to be a thing that came up". Huge appreciation for the #rustlang rustfmt team for all their work.

Time to stop dealing with other people's bullshit for a little while, and write some code.

I'm looking for an accessible calendar app that will allow me to build and organize schedules. As part of my graduate program, I have to develop a case load schedule as if I were a TVI visiting students in schools. I have to develop a month-long schedule, and I thought Excel would be good for that, but it's hard building a calendar and having to add multiple events per day. If anyone can recommend a great way to build and export an accessible calendar, I'd greatly appreciate that. Thanks so much.
in reply to Melissa Roe

ah. Outlook lets you copy and paste calendar items into CSV if you view it as a list, but everything else exports is ical unfortunately.
in reply to Sean Randall

I mean, unfortunately for your use case. ical has been around for 25 years. CSV sa a visual format for events seems a bit of an oadd duck

It must be awesome to be so rich that you get warnings about crimes you are committing, as opposed to, like, getting arrested like normal people.

Thanks everyone for the tips for the clogged ear. It is somewhat better now.

7 Things You Should Never Plug Into an Extension Cord or Power Strip cnet.com/news/7-things-you-sho…

Khronos reshared this.

I knew all of these. Though I have to say my refrigerator simply due to where the outlet is for it in my kitchen is on an extension cord specifically for that stated purpose. It is the right rating for what it's doing.
in reply to David Goldfield

well I guess I’m committing a major no-no. The microwave in my room is plugged into a power box. It’s not exactly an extension cord and it’s not exactly a power strip. It’s one of those little blocky things that goes into an outlet that has a bunch of other plug things on it.

Whew. Going to take a moment now just to close my eyes and take deep breaths and imagine, because this is definitely also within reach, that in a few weeks Trump loses, slowly loses the rest of his appeals, is jailed for his existing convictions, and begins to fade from public memory.

There will still be years of work to do, gradually breaking the power of the ghouls who made him and are complicit in his crimes. But what an amazing feeling that would be.

We can still make it happen.

Okay, time to properly launch this: SUPER SWING DISTRICTS! superswingdistricts.org

This is a slate of Democratic candidates calculated for maximum impact for your donation dollars.

National campaigns receive a ton of money, but can't always deploy it locally in the places that the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and … shenanigans mean it needs to be spent. But figuring out which local campaigns *can* use it is a lot of work. This site is the output of that work.

And we made it, and then some. On to the next goal: $60k.

Writing that thread about the stakes of the election from my perspective really took a lot more out of me than I thought it was going to though, so please get to $60k while I take a break for a while.

Found this random bakery that refers to itself as open source

> I like the "Open Source" software model and want to eventually do a full job of sharing my sources and methods to encourage that same kind of collaboration and gradual improvements with other bakers that many software developers enjoy. I've already benefited greatly from the same from connecting with other bakers, farmers, etc. One of the things at the heart of my bakery is my flour mill and my current primary mills are the the KoMo XL (one is an XL Plus). These folks are the only US importer of these mills and have been very nice to work with.
