Wow, Cory's amazing! I also learned that Ted Cruz spokefor 21 hours against Obamacare. What kind of person do you have to be to do that? . Cory Booker's anti-Trump speech on the Senate floor has lasted 19 hours and counting - NPR apple.news/As-ewC0oCQA6_Bf8g7R…

Very sad to learn that Dave Täht has passed away. Dave was one of the driving forces fighting bufferbloat. His work is likely saving whole years of latency every hour around the world. Some loving words can be found here: libreqos.io/2025/04/01/in-lovi… - his good fight will not be forgotten!

I'm happy to announce the release of Forge v0.5.0, which adds support for Github discussions. I've also just released Magit v4.3.2, Transient v0.8.7 and ten more packages. reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/1j…?

I should also mention that I make a living working on these packages, so please consider sponsoring my work. Thanks! magit.vc/donate/

Hmm...so Kristi Noem asked Claudia Sheinbaum for Mexico to share its biometric data with the US. Sheinbaum declined, stating that such data does not exist.

aristeguinoticias.com/010425/m…

Meanwhile, Sheinbaum sends to Congress a proposal to create a biometric database in the name of helping find the disappeared. The database would absorb all public and private data collection - from healthcare to education to cell phones to religious institutions to banks to the post office.

NOS Teletekst celebrates 45 years today 🥳
Despite 1970s-grade textual pages with just semi graphics, despite the fact that for last 19 years there is no native environment for broadcasting it and finally despite the fact that more advanced alternatives using rich text and pictures like HbbTV exist, people still like the technology that is due to its technical limits ad-free, clutter-free and to the point.

Mimochodem, i s lokálním účtem a s vypnutím všech volitelných šmírovátek se do Redmondu pořád odesílá docela dost informací.

if they can one-up other screen readers in actually dumping the output string of how the text-to-speech engine spoke the text, I'd be amazed. Still a huge point of confusion with VoiceOver's caption panel and other things, even at work, not to mention your article, yes. However, this could be a chance for them to do it right, especially if this is getting targeted at teachers and other professionals.

That doesn't seem technically possible, let alone likely from Microsoft. Every synthesiser would need to report back what was actually said and how, which would also mean them agreeing on a format in which to deliver that information. At best, Microsoft could implement it for their own voices, and publish a spec for anyone else who wanted to bother. @aardrian

@jscholes Yeah, when they had announced their "new natural voices", I was hopeful that maybe they'd add something exclusive to them with how it was (still is) so coupled to Narrator only, so this would be a good chance for it. Will probably wait for others to test it on the insider channel as I don't have any machines enrolled in it right now nor my past enthusiasm for trying them out. xD @aardrian

I wrote these two Windows C++ programs over the weekend to copy/paste files from the windows clipboard from the command line. fcopy will put one or more files on your clipboard, similar to pressing control+c in windows explorer, and fpaste will paste any files currently on your clipboard to the current directory. github.com/trypsynth/cmd_clip/…
They're both written in modern C++, tested building with WinLibs and G++. A makefile is provided to make building easier. Zlib license. Both binaries are under 100 KB.

@jscholes This is pretty much what I guessed, which is why I didn't ask the question. (I didn't guess that it would build faster as a C++ program, but it honestly doesn't surprise me, given the weight of windows-rs.) On the topic of binary size, it sucks that with stable Rust, every binary carries ~100 KB of code to build and render a stack trace on panic. But that's being worked on. Nightly Rust does allow tiny binaries.

I've prototyped a CLI client for resumable uploads at github.com/tus/rufh-implementa… and the gist is: The client offers the server to upgrade to resumable uploads. If the server provides an upload resource, the client can use it to resume from network interruptions and 5XX responses. In addition, the upload resource URI is saved in a text file, allowing resumption after the client crashes or is interrupted (e.g. Ctrl/Cmd+C), similar to how curl's `--continue-at -` works.
