We have been running an #FDroid-compatible repository since 2012! Since then, the free software ecosystem on Android has blossomed, meaning @fdroidorg can be properly strict about #FreeSoftware. A couple of our apps still have a couple #proprietary blobs that are requirements. F-Droid no longer includes any third party repos by default, that means our repo is no longer there by default. It is still easy and safe to add it! Read on for more info:
Guardian Project has been running its own fdroid-compatible app repository since 2012. Up until now, we worked to ensure that our repository had the same standards of free software as the official F-Droid repository.
There are even more repos around. For example, the #IzzySoftRepo repo exists since 2016. While being a "simple binary repo", it has good security measures implemented โ detecting even things the scanners at @fdroidorg miss (and vice versa). Its inclusion criteria slightly differ from those at #FDroid so you'll find apps there which are not available at F-Droid. High transparency and interesting additional details. @IzzyOnDroid I think the #IzzySoftRepo is a good example of how a binary repo should be run: clear criteria for inclusion, good marking of Anti-Features, regular enforcement action, etc. Indeed @IzzyOnDroid caught the missing Anti-Features on the Guardian Project repo wth one of his scans. Thanks @eighthave! IMHO by running an F-Droid repo (whether it builds from source or just offers binaries) intended to be used by others, one accepts responsibility. So one should take the best possible measures to make it as safe and as transparent as possible. It does happen completely locally. There's sources for it and you can even run the model outside Firefox if needed. It took a lot of work to make it run in-browser at decent speeds.

If you're running on v0.13.2 or below, you should update to this release as soon as you have the time. There are no database migrations or frontend file changes, so this should be fairly easy!
Similar to the v0.13.2 release, this one closes a couple gaps with regard to ensuring that remote accounts and statuses can't be imitated.
It also fixes a couple different bugs with regard to your instance trying to dereference accounts who've blocked you, or whose instances have blocked you, leading to less weird-looking behavior from the user's side :)
Oh, and as a nice side effect of the above changes, federation with Bookwyrm should work a bit better now too! ๐ ๐ชฑ
If you're running on a main snapshot build, you should update to the latest code on main by either refreshing the Docker snapshot tag, or taking the latest binary snapshot bundle.

My examples are very isolated and even I don't think they apply a lot to the real world, to be honest.
Cause most of the time hashtags will be links. @miclgael already pointed me into this direction, so I think I might need to update this article or write a follow up some time soon.

So, folks, there's a new browser engine dropped (a while ago, actually). It isn't based on WebKit and it isn't based on Firefox, it is written from scratch for a hobbyist operating system SerenityOS by some awesome/crazy people. The browser, called Ladybird, actually can be compiled for Windows, Linux, Mac, OpenIndiana and Android.
It can pass Acid3 and render Github page well (note that Firefox and Chrome circa 2018 cannot do that!), and it has decent JS and afaik wasm support.
I am not related to the project in any way, just amazed that it exist, and I think it deserves more love and publicity. And optimizations for low-end computers. And privacy features. And so on!
So NS has this long running bug in processing of the class switch from 1st to 2nd. You can change the class up to 15 minutes after check-in but if you do from 1st to 2nd, they will still charge you 1st class fare.
If you ask for refund, you first have to teach them how their own service works only to get the recommendation that for the future, you should be rather changing classes before check-in. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
