If you want to mug a software engineer, ask them if a static code analysis tool should consider `if time.time() > 0:` to be considered the same as `if True:`

Then, while they're writing a 40,000 word blog post on the topic, hit them on the head and take their wallet.

There’s a certain kind of person who excels at staying just on this side of any bright lines in a community code of conduct, but nevertheless manages to be so unpleasant as to drive other people away. I don’t have any good ideas about how to deal with those people, especially if they get into a position of power.

Oh, that's great. Had to put BSI back in my roter, because the command to invoke it has broken in the latest iOS update. Not amused.

I'm pretty sure this is in relation to #Airpods actually, not dental floss but there we go.

That sounds like Threads. They do the same nonsense as the other Meta platforms.

Seems like 95% of error messages fall into 2 categories. The first are so vague as to be useless. "Sorry, something went wrong." If it isn't that, it's something only serious techies can understand, such as the one I just got. “{"status":415,"title":"Unsupported Media Type","detail":"Content type 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=UTF-8' not supported","errors":[]}.” No link to a support site, or back to the homepage, or anything. Today, JAWS version 2025 has been released.
All our products are compatible with JAWS 2025, even J-Say, the update for which has just been released.
So targets have been met and in some cases exceeded.

Within the next few days, we will be contacting people who have a J-Say SMA and providing them with their upgrades.
However, the vast majority of people who have J-Say have acquired it through a Distributor. So in most cases, it is the Distributor who would let you know that the upgrade is available.

If you think you do have a current SMA, your best course of action is to send to us your JAWS serial number so it can be checked. We may then be able to provide it to you faster.

Quickly hitting peak frustration with Thunderbird's accessibility issues. Are there any other good accessible local or web-based email clients?

Don't suggest Gmail, I don't trust Google not to torch my account and nuke my data because some AI somewhere had a bad day.

Also note that I've used Thunderbird for over a decade, I've done all the usual config changes but the updates continue to break accessibility in new and innovative ways. It's not me, it's them, and I can't just not read some messages anymore because Thunderbird can't do accessibility testing right.

Hi, a few months ago, another contact said that EMclient is reasonable, and I also found OE Classic, which claims to take a11y into account, but I haven't tried it yet.

Heads up about eM Client (a Windows app): I saw a thread about context menus not working reliably with NVDA. Can't say for sure who it was from.
in reply to Nolan Darilek

Hi Nolan, please is Thunderbird a11y broken in version 128.4? I'm still at 128.3, so I'm asking to decide whether I should update. also, what has broken specifically?

Welp, yesterday Apple notified me that my backordered new Ipad mini was now due after November's 8th. So today I walked into the Apple Store in Brussels and walked out with three exact same backordered model (then cancelled the order). Why does Belgium get them more than a week before Scotland?

The wait is over! Our first stable release of Thunderbird for Android is out NOW! Find out what's new, where to get support, and how to download it in our release announcement.

#curl source code age (take 2)

in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Cool chart! The 100% are code base today? Does it mean curl is not growing significantly since around 2005? What happened there?
in reply to Daniel Nordhoff-Vergien

@dve 100% is the entire code base of the time. It has kept growing ever since before 2000.

But that confusion risk is also why I won't keep this version of the graph, I will go with the "take 4" I posted later.

if I wasn't lucky enough to listen Live over lunch, the text feed on the BBC is behind by a good 5 minutes. That's a shame. This is the sort of thing our license fee should make handling of reliable and speedy.

Interesting. When I search for “Norton Password Manager” on Chrome Web Store, it first lists five completely unrelated extensions, and only the last search result is the actual Norton Password Manager. Somebody told me that website is run by a company specializing in search, so this shouldn’t be due to incompetence, right? What is it then?

I was briefly interested in getting a Galaxy Z Fold for art, but the price immediately turned my away. What do you mean it's almost $2000??
in reply to Chris 🌱

I bought myself a used Google Pixel Fold (1st gen) for roughly 560$. I'm not sure how it can be any better for art, but generally it is such a great and comfortable device compared to regular smartphones, that I cannot imagine going back. Plus, it is the only foldable that's possible to flash with a custom ROM, and there's official LineageOS support (although I haven't flashed it yet).
