On the one hand, to most people, it doesn't make much more sense than modern art. But on the other, when you're familiar with the platform a demo runs on enough to understand its limitations, it blows your mind to pieces.
(I'm not familiar with C64 at all. I've seen one IRL at the Yandex museum, and most of the things I know about C64 is from 8-bit guy's videos.)
@grishka yeah, nowadays it is even more strange to people since they are so ancient and weird, but even at the time "mere mortals" saw no point at all in demos and I can sympathize because of course they really didn't have a lot of greater purpose.
But I spent all my awake hours working on demos for several years back then.
in the modern days, on modern systems, those size-restricted demos (4k, 16k, 32k etc, is there a proper name for that category?) are still damn impressive to anyone who understands anything about programming on a level lower than React :D
@troed Writing demos teaches some skills that are hard to acquire otherwise... while also creating some bad habits.

Input methods on macOS also work much better! The next version of Ghostty allows all the standard control keys to work with the built-in Japanese input method: support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/… In 1.0.1, these worked but ALSO encoded them to the shell. This is now resolved.
For Japanese typists, the AquaSKK/macSKK input methods work out of the box. This has been verified thanks to a vocal group of Japanese users. According to them, Ghostty is the only terminal at all where this is true (Terminal/iTerm require hacks, other terms don't work at all)
I wonder how you'll resolve Polish, we use alt (Option on Mac) for diacritics, but Option usually has to serve as the "meta" key because that's what many terminal apps require.

I describe it as quite-metronomic not-very-expressive keyboard/MIDI-based fantasy, i.e., historically-inaccurate medieval #music. Can you tell I'm not really a fan? Anyway, I decided to try making some dungeon non-synth; so all-acoustic instruments, namely baritone #ukulele, frame drum and cristal. I expect I probably missed the mark; too complicated and more Renaissance-ish, but let me know?
I was not planning to say much about this, because I have nothing to say that anyone else hasn't said already. Trump seems in many ways disastrous and dangerous, and the potential loss of US power and influence or the fact he may not be able to carry out his complete programme do not make up for much of the damage he is likely to cause.
However, I read this survey that shows that, out of many countries in the world, Europeans are the only people to be consistently against Trump. Now, I don't know about you, but when the world says one thing and Europe says another, I get worried; because historically Europe has been terrible for the rest of the world.
Does that mean I'm changing my mind on this? No, people can be wrong. It does however make me pause.
Oh, definitely. One of the few things we can hope for is the decrease in global US power projection. My point is rather, if people in China, India, Indonesia, Brazil... think Trump is broadly good news for peace and the world, and it's only Europeans (and South Koreans) who disagree, this at least should make us wonder.
I wonder if part of the issue here is that every other US president is also usually pretty terrible for the rest of the world, so the rest of the world doesn't really feel the need to single out Trump for particular criticism.
I do also think a lot of it is about appearances too, though: a lot of liberals seem to dislike Trump because he's 'uncouth' or something, lacking in decorum, not the polished and polite type of leader they like (e.g., Obama, Trudeau, etc), rather than due to any material problems. That is, they're correct to be against him, but they're against him for the wrong reasons. And I wonder if this might be part of an issue in how Europeans in general see him: as the worst stereotype of horrible Americans.
I don't want to minimise the likely damage he may cause; but perhaps a lot of the dislike in Europe is driven more because this damage might be to us this time, and as you say, because it doesn't follow the typical patterns of magisterial, bureaucratic governance the US and Europe are used to.
I'd like to create #wireguard tunnel between two natted machines. I'm fine with using an intermediate third machine for IP addresses and ports discovery. The idea outlined in this article sounds verry appealing to me. However I'm wondering is there something that is developed further beyond a proof of concept I might look at instead? I know there is #tailscale. That sounds too much for me unfortunatelly as I do need to register with them and similar. Thus I'm exploring if there is something I can self host.

Question for Linux admins: As of Debian 12 (bookworm), Linux kernel version 6.1, is btrfs reliable? btrfs has such a bad reputation for being unreliable, but I don't know if that's finally fixed.
@Matt Campbell Recently I went with btrfs raid 1 setup with two hard drives in my home computer instead of classic mdadm based raid array. Features that caught my attention include:
Ability to use more than two discs.
Ability to replace discs with larger ones gradually growing the file system in the process.
Reportedly better redundancy as compared to the mdadm based raid array.
I have created this on Arch linux with 6.11 kernel which is now upgraded to 6.12 kernel though. And I am running this kind of setup for a few weeks only with no incident. So perhaps you should wait for some more success stories before using it with your business data.
Edit: Oh, I've forgotten, I think raid 5 and raid 6 configurations are considered unstable. Mirroring should be fine for a few years already.
I’ve used it as my primary file system for years now. It’s been great overall. I have had some data loss in the past when using with raid 5 or 6, and that’s typically where the dangers lie with it still. (Most of the data was recoverable but it was a pain.) My current btrfs setup is a span across 3 hardware raids, so it’s more like lvm but I can add or remove as needed, and don’t have to worry about the raid5/6 issues.
using btrfs since like 2020 on Arch in simple non-raid config with compression on all my home and work laptops and workstations. didn't have issues. Only noticed a lot of snapshots caused some slowdowns, so I don't use them much.
