If 64-bit has indeed hit the alpha channel, you will want to uninstall any NVDA you have on the machine. 32 and 64 install two different directories and different registry locations, and so you may have both on the machine at once if you don’t uninstall first. Your user config will persist.
That's really neat! I don't know what you're using for image descriptions, but 230MB feels small. For those with a lot of room to spare, could there be an option for a larger model? I guess communicating the increased system resources needed to make use of such a model could be a UX challenge.
Great, but NVDA+Windows+,? This is not a good choice IMO, and something better like SHIFT+NVDA+G could have been used. TTS engines don't announce the comma in NVDA+Windows+, either.

So, if you don't like what we're trying out, you can definitely keep using the existing add-ons (well, noting that they won't currently work with 64-bit NVDA at this time, but that's just because of where we are in the cycle - those add-ons work with NVDA 2025.3 and will work with 2026.1 by the time it comes out)

'That t-shirt makes you look terrible, definitely want to change that' is equally passable in one direction but not the other.
In our case we simply don't have the need to speak to one another in this fashion to begin with, but many seemingly do. Our particular double-standards come from raising both a boy and a girl. We allowed our son to go off by himself earlier with less fear and concern as parents, but not so with our daughter. Are you parents with children of a similar age to one another? In this episode Kirsten delves into an article in which a woman expects princess treatment from her husband in restaurants or whenever they're out together as a couple. From ordering her food, to tying her shoelaces, nothing is seemingly off the table. Our opinion is that this behaviour somewhat infantalises a person, and allows them to avoid adult responsibilities in these situations. The couple have children as well, so if this is also continued in the home, it becomes normalised and thus the children may expect it from their partners when older.

Kirsten was on a bus and noticed an angry woman swearing at the bus driver in front of her teen-age sun which sparked this episode. For one thing it's bad manners and for another, it sets a terrible example for that child. By doing so, the mother normalises that behaviour and it may make the child think that it's also okay to do the same things under the same circumstances.

He feels emasculated, and demands that his now x-girlfriend not go out in heels as it makes her taller than he is. Kirsten and Andre both decided this is a red flag and partners should not attempt to control what the other is wearing unless there is a compelling reason to do so, such as Andre going out in mismatched clothing by mistake, since he cannot see what colours are likely to clash with one another.

hi, just listened to the episode about AI. Fascinating insights. I recently used Suno to regenerate a Christmas song we'd written a couple of years ago. We want it to be a big band, 40s to 60s style number, so that's what I put into Suno. When I got the result, it was better than I imagined it would be. Now, to find musicians who'd be willing to record it properly so I can release it... I agree, releasing anything recreated or generated by AI, and passing it off as your own, is nothing more than plagerism and denigrades the effort that human musicians put into making their songs. I learned more from example than from punishment. The more my mum smacked me, the more angry and aggressive I became towards others, until one day my mum smacked me and I ended up hitting her back. She never took her hand to me after that.
@daygar For my parents, smacking was a last resort, if telling off didn't work: I can't say I was always well-behaved, but thankfully I rarely got smacked.
@daygar This is about where I'm at on that, too. I think by smacking, the kid's more likely to learn aggression, fear of the parent, hatefulness, anger, or some mix of those, rather than positive behavior as a moral principle.

@daygar Certainly. I think it's definitely a deeply polarizing topic. I know many people who would argue that it's a fair or even preferable form of discipline, and frankly I couldn't begin to wrap my head around that, even as someone who generally doesn't like kids and wouldn't want them. I would be the last one to know what is good and bad parenting advice, but I wouldn't ever use physical force as a means of disciplining any child
IMO it's abuse, end of story. If you have to smack someone to make a point stick, you might have deeper issues. Either you're letting anger take over, or you're letting them get away with too much based on your standards, or something else, but I think if someone thinks smacking is the way, there's a bigger issue. If you were smacking around another adult to make a point, that obviously is some form of assault, abuse, or at very least physical aggression that would almost certainly get you in some trouble if reported. I see no reason it should be treated differently with children. All you're teaching them with that is that violent outbursts are the way to get their way and make things happen. Also, there's a significant power imbalance in the relationship between child and parent. Using parental authority to allow and justify aggression is not right in my view. I very thoroughly believe aggression to make a point or get someone to do what you want is not ever okay. Granted I have never been a parent, so whatever that's worth, but I do believe I'm fairly set in this view.

@lynessence Sure, that's the AI version, but what does it mean specifically to *you*? Everybody is different as we learnt from that episode, so yours may differ from the so-called norm.
So for me, because I have light perception, the months of the year are arranged in a circle, and they have different shapes and some are brighter or darker than others. It makes no sense. For example, January is bright, February is very dark, March is a little brighter, but April and May are brighter still. They are all the same shape, all squares. Numbers are the same, all different in how bright they are, but they are not arranged in a circle or oval. I tried to draw it once and it's more of a meandering squiggly line but it makes sense in my mind's eye. Days of the week are arranged like the letter D. Sunday to Friday are like the curve of the D and Saturday and Sunday are in a straight line. They are also designated as points of light of different intensities.
I also forgot to mention that with time, numbers, days of the week, and months, it would be easier for me to show people how I visualize them if I used blocks or something like that instead of drawing, because I've never had sight other than light perception, but all of my visualizations are not only light and shape-based, but they have different levels. For example, the numbers 1 2 3 start with 1 being the smallest, 2 being a little higher, and 3 higher still. I'd need to show someone tactilly so they could truly understand what I mean. I find it difficult to explain. I have not been formally diagnosed, but was researching synaesthesia because I find it really interesting. On a whim, I described to ChatGPT how I see numbers, time, days of the week, and months of the year. I asked if this could be a form of synaesthesia and that's what it came up with. So I'm self diagnosed I guess, for what it's worth.
