Interesting 🤔 how #CVE are leveraged as resume items, putting #programmers #developers & project leads under pressure by #bogus CVE reports or unnecessary high CVE ratings.

Popular and obscure programs are affected in the #OpenSource #POSIX world e.g #Linux #freeBSD #netBSD #openBSD

#Curl ➰ by #Daniel #Stenberg and #IP by #Fedor #Indutny are popular programs hit by this #phenomena which can lead to unwarranted #panic in the users space

Y apoyamos a @daniel

The full data won't be in for another 7 days, but I'm pretty sure it was another record month for global average daily 2m air temperature and 60S-60N daily average sea surface temperature. N Atlantic SST is probably very close to June 2023's record.

Hurricane #Beryl becomes the first Category 4 on record in June in the Atlantic.

There is no historical precedent. Records date back to 1851.

police violence in finland.

court has ruled in favour of extinction rebels in a case where police force recklessly assaulted the protesters. for example, pepper spray was sprayed directly on peaceful protesters faces, while protesters sat in the demonstration.

I'm still working my way through the official Rust book. Honestly, it's great. Not only does it explain Rust without dumbing things down too much, but it's very accessible. Code isn't in one of those widgets that repeats each line or forces line numbers on me, and what images there are have extremely thorough alt text. I'm very impressed. doc.rust-lang.org/book/

@kaveinthran I worked through it to learn Bevy and I have to say more: It also explains programming concepts extremely well.

edited to include the original source URL. I ran across this writing in the things I save, originallly found at wheresyourdog.com/2019/04/05/i… and I thought I'd post it here.
I don't want you to be grateful.
I don’t want you to be grateful that you don’t have my life. I want you to ask yourself why it’s so hard, why it’s so unfair, and what you can do about it. I want you to see the barriers—the inaccessible environments and the crushing weight of low expectations—and realize that, without these roadblocks, it wouldn’t be quite so hard and unfair. I want you to know that I wasn’t put on this earth to encourage you to appreciate what you have. I want you to understand that, in a more inclusive world, there would be little need to look at a disabled person and think, “Thank God that’s not me.” I want you to know that through the smallest acts, you can help make that happen.
I don’t want to inspire you. I want my ordinary actions to be just that: ordinary. I want to be more than a motivational meme or symbol of struggle. I want you to see me, not just the white cane, the dog, the wheelchair, the diagnosis, the brain or the body that doesn’t work exactly like yours does. I want you to admire my strong points without erasing my weak ones. I want you to stop attaching “for a disabled person” to every compliment you pay me. I want you to see my talents and charms, my flaws and my quirks—the things that make me every bit as human as you.
I don’t want you to tell me you’re my ally. I want you to show me. I want you to model that care with your actions, your values and your votes. I want you to describe your photos and call out that friend who’s always complaining about the “handicaps” on welfare. I want you to ask why that new restaurant doesn’t have an accessible entrance. I want you to recognize that a thousand social media posts can never equal an in-the-moment act of kindness. I want you to accept that how you make me feel is far more impactful than what you post on Social media.
I don’t want to be in your diversity poster, your diversity working group, your diversity brochure. I want to be consulted for practical solutions, not publicity stunts—because my time is worth more than that, and so is yours. I want you to seek my feedback not because the optics are favourable, but because my perspective is of value and I have something to offer you. I want two-way streets. I want to help move things forward, but I can’t do that while I’m sitting at the token table.
I don’t want to make you a better person. I want to increase your awareness and deepen your understanding. I want to point you toward opportunities for growth and education. I want you to be part of the solution. I want you to stand beside me as my equal and my ally, not because it makes you a good person but because better treatment of disabled people makes good sense for everyone.
I don’t want your charity. I want you to hire me. I want you to rent to me. I want you to let me take your class. I want you to be the patient or the client or the customer who doesn’t flinch when a disabled person walks into the room. I want you to trust that I am suitably qualified and that I will meet your standards. I want you to be comfortable with the concept of working, productive disabled people. I want you to wonder why there aren’t more of us.
I don’t want you to be my voice. I want you to acknowledge that I have my own voice. I want you to amplify it, bring it to the ears of those who wouldn’t otherwise listen. I want you to help the world understand that I am not, and have never been, voiceless. I want you to refuse when you are asked to represent me. I want you to point in my direction when someone asks, “What does he think? What does he need?” I want you to step back, because I am my own best advocate. And when the world asks you to speak for me, I want you to pass the mic, because my story is mine to tell.

One of the selling points of Google’s flagship generative AI models, Gemini 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Flash, is the amount of data they can supposedly process and analyze. But new research suggests that the models aren’t, in fact, very good at those things. “While models like Gemini 1.5 Pro can technically process long contexts, we have seen many cases indicating that the models don’t actually ‘understand’ the content,” Marzena Karpinska, a postdoc at UMass Amherst. It's 8 years old already. Yes this super stupid idea is returning again and again. I am so tired of this.

Hey folks, we're going to be at @allsystemsgo in Berlin later this year. @cas and @craftyguy will be talking about how #postmarketOS has evolved over the last few years, our experiences with #systemd, and our plans for an #immutable postmarketOS that doesn't restrict user freedom.

If you're into low level Linux userspace and middleware definitely come along :D

I've spoken about ossification many times and how that for example have prevented TFO (TCP Fast Open) to get deployed widely.

Today #wget2 joined the team disabled-TFO-by-default: lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug…

@boiert I am not involved in the change. You need to talk to the wget2 team.

I made some comments on the RFC. However: The only use-case I found for this protocol would be an in-kernel advertising link-redirector.

Etsy is about to ban the sale of most sex toys and sexual content (ANY depictions of genitalia and sex acts). Effective July 29th.

Non-penetrable and non-insertable toys and kink gear will still be allowed (for example: restraints, clamps, harnesses).

Nudity for models will be banned, including "genitalia, anuses, gluteal clefts [a.k.a. buttcracks] and female nipples/areolas."
(A LOT to unpack here...)

There will also be a ban on any "sexual references to familial relationships" in articles up for sale, such as "daddy's slut" or "choke me, mommy".

Do/Have you used a CD/DVD/Bluray in a while?

What about burning a disk?

I'm surveying modern day awareness/usage of optical media, mostly to confirm some demographic theories, so if you know what a CD/DVD is, please help me (and maybe others) out by answering some ~10 questions here:

And then please boost for better visibility! Thank you!
