While at #SightCity yesterday, I was introduced to a line of Braille displays called b.note by Eurobraille. Intriguingly, they are powered by a Raspberry Pi, using Debian Linux as their OS. Apparently there's a developer mode, which allows users to connect to it via ssh, and even extend functionality using Python scripts. I'm already in the market for a new display and now very strongly considering getting one of these, especially since I quite liked the keyboard and Braille modules as well.
@alexhall But yes, this display does use the more traditional piezoelectric Braille cells. I was personally happy about that, as they do feel very similar to the Handy Tech Active Star which I'm currently using, and which is also sadly in the process of slowly falling apart. To be fair though, I have been using this display for around 10 years, which means it has actually outlived all the other tech on my desk right now.

Pocket didn't even get to star in its own obituary, as Mozilla unwinds itself from anything that isn't its ai/advertisement business - meaning that Fakespot (which Mozilla bought just over 2 years ago) is also on the chopping block.

I also feel the need to point out a few months back, when I and others were criticising Firefox's new terms of service / privacy / AUP policy as being overbroad, inappropriate, and down right unethical (it still is)...one of the main category responses was "oh they are only saying they need to collect these categories of data, and require this ridiculously over the top license, things because of integrations...like Pocket"

Anyone else experiencing this new bug on @thunderbird ? Any light theme results in a transparent drop-down calendar in the Lightning sidebar, but it's fine with dark themes. I've tested it against several light and dark themes, all with the same results.

LOL glad you're trying out Android! For work I'm still required to test for it of course, so I haven't abandoned my S22 myself, but really it does sit in a drawer most of the day even today so that's why, no new Android for me, it's just not a priority need or desire ATM. However, still using Android 15 / 1UI 7 on that. I think going with stock Pixel is a good choice though, less of that AI bloat and more customization in some way, + you get Google's own Accessibility Suite rather than Samsung's fork, which to me has been a bit of a let-down. (even if I can force the alternative by disabling the internal and installing over it, but bla, who wants to mess around with ADB these days when work leaves me tired at the end of the day!) So I'll be curious as to your app and general out-of-box experience especially as you're going with a flagship vendor, and as much as I do like the Jelly, it would still come with a less-than-ideal one. Even Motorola at least promises 3-years Android updates, less than Samsung's 7 but still a decent track record even if they're super slow to update phones. But I digress. Man I'm in a digression-type mood today lately.

I'd say all basic usage features that are holding people back from daily driving linux mobile. desktop and laptops work quite well in my experience (well besides wake from sleep issues though those are probably driver issues).

sounds like a good idea, though we would need to implement support for JMAP into chatmail core (we haven't done that so far, because JMAP is still very niche (not much adoption) and the annoying part of email remains, which is mime parsing. Though that probably also means it's not that much work.)

there is zero new information in this article that has not been public knowledge for decades. They unashamedly presented this in our internal training classes on utility economics when I worked at a utility doing IT security.
To be clear: it has nothing to do with datacenters or AI. This is normal business.
Anyone who wants manufacturing to come back to the USA -- this is what it will look like. The utilities will sign sweetheart deals with the companies and regardless of efficiency/renewables lowering their energy production costs, the people will bear the burden.

For everyone else: the authors of the article are describing their own research on the subject whether it's "new information" according to the other guy or not; yes, utilities are controlled monopolies, despite the objection; and whether or not this is "normal" business, not everybody knows how this works, they should, and they absolutely should not be bullied into accepting it just because the guy above has chosen to. That's authoritarian thinking.
if you want to solve this problem you need to actually understand it and its history or you'll be undermined by the proponents of these policies.
Demand fair rate schedules / equity in pricing instead of whinging about datacenters and AI or the factory down the road will continue to get away with being subsidized because everyone is focusing on AI panic.
And then the AI and datacenter companies will continue buying power plants, privatized solar/wind farms, and building reactors to power themselves, everyone will forget about the issue because it has been "solved" on its own as they won't need these sweetheart contracts and the rest of industrial America will soldier on continuing to extract wealth out of their communities like a giant tick.
