Garmin “Autoland” aka “Safe Return,” has been used for the first time, successfully.

Autoland is an emergency system, where a passenger can hit a big red button if the pilot is in incapacitated, which causes the airplane to make emergency radio calls, navigate to a nearby airport with a long runway and medical facilities, and conduct an instrument approach and landing, followed by a full shutdown when the aircraft comes to a stop on the runway. Large screens and voice announcements keep passengers updated along the way.

The nature of the medical emergency on Saturday, involving a King Air with an unconscious pilot, has not been disclosed.

The problem with saying "Linux doesn't work" is that it's incorrect.

Folks are always surprised to hear that I've been doing music, videos, and gaming on Linux for decades.

Biggest thing is that I *only* buy hardware that works on Linux, and I *only* use software that works on Linux.

What you mean when you say "Linux doesn't work" is that "Linux doesn't work for me." But that's not rage-baity enough to attract attention.

A problem I have with every "I tried Linux for two weeks and could never make it work" video thing is that folks position themselves as the default, everyday computer user.

But they're not! Jeeze folks! They're already knee deep in Windows/Mac software if they have a YouTube channel where they make videos on Windows/Mac!

These folks have production workflows that they don't want to change. If that's not you, you can disregard their rage-bait!

I don't "make Linux and FOSS work for me." Years ago, I *chose* to work with Linux and FOSS.

I just switched, and if things required Windows or a Mac, I didn't do those things. I did other things instead.

My priorities welcomed that choice. Yours might not. That's OK! But it doesn't mean Linux can't do it.

It'd be like saying "my bicycle can't haul a tractor, therefore bicycles are worthless." You'd sound absurd. That's what they do. Because rage sells.

I've recently returned to using Mutt to manage most of my incoming mail, especially the various mailing lists to which I subscribe. Major reasons for this include (1) its comprehensive set of keyboard commands; (2) the option to control sort order in detail, including threads (in my case, oldest message first); (3) focus handling, e.g., placed automatically on the first unread message; and (4) support for using your preferred text editor to write messages. The main disadvantage is that HTML messages aren't presented as well as they would be in a client based on a Web browser engine. However, most of the HTML-only messages I receive are advertising anyway, i.e., the lowest priority mail that I often don't read.

The other day I took a massive step into the kitchen over a doorstep that's no longer there, and just now I turned on the wrong light because that gang switch used to have a different order.

As these both of these things changed in spring 2024, I can only assume my mind is refusing to believe it's nearly 2026 and is trying to return to a time when things were marginally less awful.

When the European Commission approached us about funding a bug bounty for BIND 9, we were impressed with the proposal. We have a policy against bug bounties (because we were frustrated with people wasting our time), but under this proposal, the YesWeHack team would do initial triage, and use their expertise to minimize the 'slop' reports. This is a game-changer for a small development team.

The bounty program is active, and we are looking for our first valid report.

I just gave Codex an explicit instruction to perform a web search, without actually enabling the web search feature itself (I have it configured with full network access enabled).

It just started hitting random search engine APIs via Curl (it gave up with DuckDuckGo, but tried Jina.ai and that worked).

Am I being stupid, or is there an easier way to get VO and TDSR to play nice together? I tried using activities to mute speech but this would mean that I’d miss notifications, wouldn't be able to use menus in terminal etc, or, what I've currently been doing, using rtrackpad commander to mute speech manually while I'm in terminal; same issue. Any help appreciated.

@Tutanota iOS app - is it new that when I mark my emails and click "move" then the folders are suddenly presented in reverse order? Previously the "Inbox" was first and then it was my custom folders below. Now all my custom folders appear on top and in reverse order. It's kinda annoying, can you please make it like it used to be? Make the order just like it appears in the sidebar. Thanks

Я знаю что я дурачок наверное, но чета мне так хочется сделать многопользовательскую онлайн игру с квестами, гриндом, всякими штуками и механиками, с лутом, и конечно с циферками (в которых я правда ничего не смыслю).

Пока-что в планах сделать что-то вроде #webfishing но с фермерством, но у меня этот проект в голове как то не укладывается и не представляется особо.

Interesting finding: most of the custom 2FA input forms (you know those with single digit input fields) *do not* work on slow internet. Likely because they require some JS bundle that does not download properly or takes forever.
Solution: just use a regular single input field, folks!

I went on a blocking spree today. I was scrolling through the Silent Sunday posts and blocked folks who routinely post images with no alt text. It's so frustrating to see a great image and no alt text, and I just don't need that annoyance.

But I was pleased to note that such folks were a distinct minority. Yay for everyone using alt text!

Seems that IAccessible2 supports alpha, but optionally, and I don't think there's a single screen reader that does anything with this info, at least. Maybe some sort of screen magnifier, but I have no idea how those work. typedef long IA2Color

Pretty sure UIA just leaves the high byte of their long unused, but I could be wrong there.
