@Friendica Support

I just wanted to say thank you to all the #blind folk who responded last night to give me so many fantastic responses.

It's given me a clear direction of travel, and been quite affirming in terms of my future plans.

I don't have as much money as I'd like, but I can certainly do some things.

I think I'm going to go back to the table and ask the charity to put some of our own money in so that I can do something for Deafblind people.

They may say no.

A long one, but that's pretty common for Hindustani Classical. This is a recording from 1974 of Surbahar (essentially bass sitar) playing rāg yaman. This serene evening rāg is similar to lydian, though with rules. Alāp Jor Jhala refers to distinct sections. The alāp is a slow free-rhythm exploration of the rāg, jor/jod () introduces a steady rhythm, and jhala introduces a more lively rhythm (a constant pattering of melodic raindrops).

@menelion Hindustani and Carnatic music theory are interesting different worlds to explore. I’ve mainly done rhythm theory though, but I understand the basics of rāg. Perhaps useful to know. The melody is mainly happening on one string. For reference, the surbahar usually has a scale length of 95-100cm. The instrument’s overall length can be more like 130cm. It’s a beast!

Yesterday at work:

me: "Codex, figure out why <component> doesn't see <hardware>, even though <hardware> is clearly present on machine."

(left unsaid: component runs in container, other stuff (also in containers) sees hardware fine).

*2 minutes later*

Codex: "You have foo installed at version X (likely from ubuntu repositories), vendor's hardware support matrix page says that <hardware> only supports Foo at versions y+, I advise you to install from official vendor repo. If you run foo, it shows a "hardware not recognized" warning."

Me: "You don't have sudo, write a sh script runnable with sudo."

Codex: "script is at ..."

Me: "./script.sh; reboot"

*2 minutes later*

Oh that worked. Would have taken me hours of debugging otherwise.

The whole thing took about 15 minutes, most of which was installing packages over a slow network connection.

Need to view the recovery key for a FileVault-encrypted Mac in order to, for example, reset its login password? If you opted to allow your Apple Account to be able to decrypt your Mac, the key is stored and viewable in the Passwords app on your signed in devices like any other credential; just select your Mac's name in the list of accounts, and then click or double-tap the key to show it. #TipTuesday

What is with these websites with seemingly random soft hyphens placed everywhere?

Here's an example. It makes reading with a screen reader very difficult.
When researching a famous historical figure, access to their work and materials usually proves to be one of the biggest obstacles. But things are much more difficult for those writing about the life of Marie Curie, the scientist who, along her with husband Pierre, discovered polonium and radium and birthed the idea of particle physics. Her notebooks, her clothing, her furniture (not to mention her lab), pretty much everything surviving from her Parisian suburban house, is radioactive, and will be for 1,500 years or more.

Canceled my Spotify subscription this year and started using @AntennaPod, and my god what an update to my QoL.

No algorithms shoving perceived interests down my throat, no analytics tracking my every move, and no ads other than any the shows themselves decided to embed in an episode.

Seriously, if you can, give it a shot for at least a week, or swing a donation their way. We all need projects like these to flourish

On my way to Brussels for XMPP summit then FOSDEM. Contact me here or on XMPP if you want to discuss Libervia, see a demo, or talk about related topics (XMPP Pubsub, e2ee, activityPub or email gateways, forums, multiparty A/V calls, metadata reduction, serverless, data policy, etc).

You can also directly come to our booth (XMPP & Realtime Lounge).

Please note that this year we are in AW level 1 instead of the usual location.

So far with Moltbot, just on their web interface I have:
Sent a message to A T Guys support using the contact form on the website, getting around the CAPTCHA
Rickrolled myself by having it find Rick Astley on my computer and play using Winamp
Created a 20 song playlist of 90s bangers from files on my hard drive
Connected with Home Assistant and controled my speakers
Taken a screenshot of my computer
This thing can do good and very bad things. But wow the potential is there however you define it.

Reading the "European agentic AI landscape" report and it doesn't start well. And note, I'm not per se opposed to AI. But this sort of unjustified affirmation of the consequent bothers me:

"The EU must address systemic barriers that limit its ability to
strengthen the agentic AI ecosystem and generate value."

Oh, really, must it now? Why then I suppose no-one could have anything to argue against that.
