Excusez-moi, j'ai rien contre vous personnellement, mais je suis piéton non-voyant et je déteste les cyclistes autant. roulent rapidement, n'observent pas de règles, s'en fichent des piétons, utilisent des trottoirs comme pistes cyclables, ne freinent jamais suffisament, klaxonnent frénétiquement en attendant tout le monde bondir de leur route pour les laisser passer. Absolument affreux. Les autos… oui, y en a des cons, mais en général pas sur des trottoirs. Chaque fois que je quitte la maison je me demande si l'un(e) de ces individus me jette par terre cette fois ou la prochaine.

I don't know if something like that would really end up having a sizable market that would make it worth the effort. You're basically chasing the nostalgia that GenX and Millennials have for such things, and maybe they're buying it and hoping their kids will use it.
If I had the modern internet when I was young with all of the apps, social media, Youtube, countless cheap/free games, smartphones and tablets, etc... I doubt I'd have been spending my time trying to program and learn Linux/Unix stuff. I'd have been consuming all the other stuff 24/7.
I feel like there's a 15-20 year period where we existed in a bubble which drove us to these interests and develop these skills, but now there's so many distractions and options to spend your time on it's going to be very difficult to recreate that again in a younger generation. #práce #homeoffice #nezaměstnanost Nechápu, proč drtivá většina IT firem po covidové pandemii zrušila možnost 100% práce z domova. To mě nakonec donutilo změnit můj obor, takže už žádný webdesign / webdev 😐 Prostě jsem musel změnit plány při hledání práce. Třeba je to tak lepší, skoro 19 let jsem si užil docela dostatečně a nelíbí se mi směr, kterým celý webdev obor kráčí: namísto ustálení nebo zjednodušení se vše pořád jen víc komplikuje. Docela lituju nováčky, dnes bych v tom začínat nechtěl.
Myslím si, že ten negativní trend se týká celého IT odvětví. Náročnější integrační role budou mít pořád o práci postaráno, ale "dělníci kódu" budou pod tlakem a myslím, že v oboru už dobře bylo. Kdybych byl dnes na začátku kariéry, tak už asi volím trochu něco jiného. Něco na pomezí. Třeba IT a energetika.
@sesivany Je to docela smutné uvědomění. Už dlouho melanchonicky vzpomínám na 80ky a 90ky. Ne vše bylo růžové, samozřejmě, ale mám pocit, že se opravdu hodně oblastí každých 15-20 let změní k horšímu. Slibovanou zlatou budoucnost lidstva na téhle planetě teda opravdu nečekám. BTW mě by dnes alternativně zajímalo třeba embedded programování (v tom vidím stále potenciál), ale to už mi dávno ujel vlak.

@davetaylor2112 Really? If anything, I would have thought they show it's actually not so hard. I broke it down into key by key steps, and into specific tasks: Searching for an issue, creating an issue, and subscribing to an (already created) issue. Could GitHub make it easier to navigate? Sure, but I don't think the steps would be any shorter if I was describing how to navigate and post on Facebook or anywhere else :)
And right there, you're using another website that people find problematic, why do you think so many blind people used to use the mobile site And you don't even have to explain whatever those phrases were about statusses on FB or anything either. That sort of thing really confuses non techie people
@davetaylor2112 Ok well I wasn't trying to explain Facebook (and that's also one reason I've never attempted to write a guide to using Facebook - that and it changes every two weeks anyway). But really GitHub isn't so hard - not perfect by any means, but definitely useable. Of course, we don't have any more control over how GitHub works than how Facebook works, but if you have feedback on how it could be easier, we would definitely encourage you to raise them with Github themselves too
Thing is, it looks like its probably fine for devs and I think it's OK for techie types. It's not really meant for average end users, and yeah, I so agree with you about FB I really think I need per website settings in NVDA these days, I spend so much time flipping first letter nav or focus mode on and off!
@davetaylor2112 I believe we do have an issue requesting per-website settings. It would definitely be useful. In any case, you ARE still welcome to write to us if you do have a problem which may need an issue written up about it. If I can readily replicate it, I'll probably be willing to write it up for you. It's mostly where i can't replicate it or I'm not going to be able to answer any questions about it that I would be very keen for you to write it up (because you can test a fix etc)
To be fair, most of the issues I have are not with NVDA, especially now. Many of them are to do with websites, and often I don't understand why the issue is happening well enough to write it, and it's a website you have to actively have an account on to see the issue. Things like groups still being announced although I have them turned off, trying to get rid of the right verbosity so I can learlly hear a controlname without listening to all sorts of other stuff
The last heading, Three quick tips from Noelia, has an HTML list problem. The list which comes after this heading doesn't end properly, and the sentence "That’s all for this week" is wrongly listed as a list item belonging to "Press NVDA+b to read the controls available on the current Window"

As someone who finds the general distaste for the recorder across the board to be very sad given what it's actually capable of if played well, I present this article. In praise of the humble recorder — a gateway instrument for millions of schoolchildren: npr.org/2025/07/16/nx-s1-54562…
@a11yMel All fair. But 1 leads to 2 which leads to 3. :) I think the same is likely true for any instrument. I grant, however, that recorder is often not taught with real enthusiasm or skill, which leads to poor playing that never really improves. I was lucky to have a classroom teacher who actually really loved it as an instrument and was quite passionate about teaching us to play it well and in harmony.
It was a gateway instrument for me, but not as a student. Last year, I was recommended a Youtube video about this topic. This made me research more, and soon I had an alto and a tenor. Finding which of these I wanted led the Youtube algorithm to start serving me tin whistle videos. Now I have four tin whistles and am waiting on a very expensive low F whistle to be made for me by hand. I also still have the recorders.
I was just given my late uncle's tenor recorder. I've played soprano since a child, so was surprised how difficult it is to get a good tone. I'm going to have to spend some serious time on it when it's no longer open windows season.
@sbourne Oo nice! Is it wood? I think wood instruments can take a while to wear back in after they haven't been used for a while, so it could be partially that too perhaps?
