I find the stability and backward compatibility fascinating. I’d love to read about your approach: Do you get the API right the first time? Do you learn to live with technical debt? Isn’t it slowing the development? Have you ever deprecated and removed something?
@OndrejMirtes I basically define "right" as the way we first designed it as that's the way we stick with for decades to come. I think we nailed the API model decently from the beginning and we've managed to do okay decisions since. The key is to have the API not expose too much internals so that we can keep evolving and changing while keeping the API. So yeah, there is a debt for sure but it's generally not a big bother I think.

perfect timing yesterday I decided to give Mastodon a try as reddit is getting hostile towards 3rd parties. I created the account logged in to tusky and one of the first things I was trying to find was how to see trending and here I am one day after the feature is released. Great job
I love Tusky and the improvements are great, please please please please could we have more than 5 tabs, having to choose between the basic lists and all the truly excellent things you can now do with tabs is just so painful #tusky #tuskytabs #tabs
Does this one fix the absurd bug where "load more" expands down instead of up, so that I then have to scroll through the loaded posts to try and work out where I was in the timeline? Can't believe you haven't fixed this after more than a year.
that's just a bodge, not a solution to this problem.
I don't want oldest first. What I want is Load More to do the right thing when I have newest first set just like literally *every other social media client*.
Can't you just make it so that Load More inserts before the current position, instead of below, so I can continue scrolling up?
Or can I disable Load More so it just loads my timeline, in order?

I do have feature suggestions though: - a dedicated tab to explore trending posts (some apps even allow to customize which servers are used to gerate such a feed) - support for fediverse quote posts - translation of foreign language posts
The latest tusky is having a lot of problems with images. I can't easily scroll left and right after making the image larger. This is making it hard to read comics in tusky.

Looking really good! Was waiting for the tag view, so really happy to have that now. I see that Thunderbird beta is now up on Flathub, though not yet at 115. Is the beta maintained on Flathub or is manual install the way to go for the betas?
@ams No worries! We actually have an internal Flatpak build running pretty smoothly, now it's just a matter of completing the ownership transfer at Flathub.
We're close, and sorry it's taking so long. But we're sincerely looking forward to offering timely Beta Flatpak options soon!
Implementing it takes some time. The final version will ship with the stable release of 115. But we're planning to have a separate icon for Beta and Daily (like Firefox does) and those aren't even finalized yet.

NVDA is a project I have absolutely no doubt in supporting. Good in principle, good in practice; good technology, good organisation, good licencing; and the best possible price!
Switching to NVDA late, late last year was one of the very best decisions I ever made personally or professionally. Absolutely well done to everyone involved in making this screen-reader such a success. For me personally, so much less stress in my life as a result of switching. I didn't realise it until doing so.
@leonardder The one thing I flatly refuse to give up though, is Orpheus. That's my Eloquence for all you eloq lovers out there, so glad there's an addon that enables me to use that, otherwise things might have been quite different. haha
@FreakyFwoof I abandoned Orpheus in 2009 or so, but it was indeed really hard to switch, especially because it spoke Dutch pretty well and Eloquence doesn't. I'm now at ESpeak for around 5 years I think.
@ragb @leonardder I still have a working juno connected to a telnet and icecast server, so you can telnet to it, and then tune your media player to it to hear what it says.

@miki Previously we'd written the captions manually. Since we needed to use the auto captions last time (because I don't speak Spanish), I thought we'd try it on an English language video this week and see what people thought.
I recommend downloading Buzz, which allows you to transcribe audio files and export to caption files. So long as your video's audio matches the time stamps of the video file, you'll get far more accurate results.

I actually usually make them myself so I know they are accurate - I needed to do it for a video the previous week which was in Spanish (and I don't speak Spanish) - so having figured out how to do it for that, I thought I'd try it for an English one. Not a complaint, just an observation: doing a bunch of maintenance work worth several years in one afternoon hammers home how much work it is to just keep projects in shape, running, passing CI etc without adding a single feature. I would love to get rid of reST too, as it feels like the tooling including GitHub is falling apart, but I’ve run out of time.

The stable release of Thunderbird 115 will be out later this summer.
