Re last boost: I’m really happy about this. Kotaku was my favorite gaming news site to follow thanks to the combination of good reporting and a great sense of humor in the posts and it was heartbreaking to see the site get increasingly worse thanks to management decisions and most of the core staff slowly leaving. Just looking at the front page of Aftermath I’m already seeing what I loved about Kotaku here minus the giant outplaying videos and slideshow galleries.
Edit: Although, their sharing widget only has links to Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Email. Needs more fedi :)

Accessible Chips demo — "modified to use the HTML datalist element instead of a custom autosuggest". Nice! kindhearted-meal.glitch.me/ By @mfairchild365 (and inspired by me 😁 ). This demo is actually 4 years old! Browser support (for datalist) is better. #webdev #html #a11y

We are excited to announce that earlier this year in July, Servo received a NLnet grant from @NGIZero to enhance several aspects of Servo.

Under this grant, our primary focus is to:

- Complete float support in Servo
- Support more languages in inline layout
- Add initial <table> support

For floats, our objective is to achieve an average pass rate of over 80%. Last week, we surpassed this for the floats tests, with an 82.2% WPT pass rate.

Need help finding or piecing together a software that does a thing.

Dadboss informed me of something our company used to use way back, Yahoo Groups, as an email newsgroup.

Apparently, our members were really into it because they didn’t have to go anywhere or log in to anything.

They received an email and simply hit reply and it added their response.

He wants something like that crossed with Substack.

Sounds like maybe something #Indieweb protocol can do?

I don’t know; I’m not a developer, but I’m pretty good at piecing things together out of existing technology.

And maybe it already exists!

If someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Woohoo! #IETF #RFC9460 has been published: "Service Binding and Parameter Specification via the #DNS (#SVCB and #HTTPS Resource Records)". rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc9460.htm…

Thank you to everyone has supported and contributed to this over the past almost nine years since the initial seeds were planted during discussions at a TLS 1.3 interim meeting.

SVCB has potential to have substantial impact across a wide range of Internet protocols. I'm thrilled to see how many drafts are already building on it.

If you're using (or thinking of switching to) @aaisp VoIP services and also use #xmpp, the incredible singpolyma of jmp.chat and cheogram.com fame has set up an #sms bridge for general use. To set up:

  1. Add xmpp:cheogram.com to your contacts
  2. Type 'register aa.sgx.soprani.ca'
  3. Type in your phone number and SIP password, and follow instructions for sending incoming messages to the bridge.

Code is at git.singpolyma.net/sgx-aa with more updates on the way; feel free to support singpolyma's work on jmp.chat and liberapay.com/singpolyma

Great to learn of a growing African presence on the fediverse. For the first time, I came across an Algeria themed 🇩🇿 instance, perhaps the first instance set up for and by an African community here (there could be others that I'm not aware of).

The instance is dz.social (Dz, short for the country's local name "Dzayer" and .dz is the country's internet domain code.

It's a start. Happy to see a Maghreb presence here. P.S Algerians are amazing people to befriend.

My effort during IETF 118 hackathon got merged. Now you can use clatd by @tore not only with TAYGA user-space translator but also with nat46 kernel-space translator: github.com/toreanderson/clatd/…

We are still far from the universal availability of CLAT on Linux, but at least we started to move.

in reply to Ondřej Caletka

@alexhaydock @florian

What's missing in (vanilla) Linux is an in-kernel SIIT-EAM translation engine. (There are a couple of third party solutions but I doubt the systemd-networkd and NetworkManager developers are interested in supporting those until they are included upstream.)

NAT64 prefix discovery, CLAT interface provisioning and so on probably belongs in user space (prefix discovery should ideally be in a shared library that systemd-networkd and NetworkManager could both use).

We love the conversations and friendships we make here on the fediverse. The engagement we get here is truly unlike any other social media.

Now it's that time again, when we ask our community to support us. We still need your help to ensure we can continue our vital mission of telling vital, untold stories of #Texas life that matter far beyond our borders.

OK, trying an experiment with my Programming Languages class!

• Have an AI generate some of your writing assignment.
• Critique its output. Call BS on its BS.

Assignment details in screenshots below. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Early returns are promising. Students got into the activity. Discussion took over half the last day of class.

This is a Programming Languages class, and discussion took an interesting turn: how would •languages• change in a world where we expect AI code generation to be a normal part of the development process, and the problem for humans shifts (even further) away from “How do I generate code?” and toward “Does the code I’ve generated actually do what I think? What I want?”

My favorite outcome so far: a student remarked (paraphrasing here) that she didn’t realize how much she had to say in her paper until she saw how wrong the AI was, how much it missed the point.

Observing her own reaction to BS about her topic made her realize she’d underestimated the extent of her own newly-forming knowledge. That…that is the sort of outcome an educator dreams of.

It looks like Fedora 39 torrents are live a bit early. 👀 It seems like a good choice for my father-in-law's recently-liberated EOL Chromebook!

After downloading, I've already seeded to a 1:1 ratio; if you have some spare bandwidth, you can join in, too!

Holy crap, GNOME flies on this thing! It's a measly little dual-core 900 MHz CPU w/4 GB RAM, but you wouldn't know it from using it (until you go to compile something or open like 100 tabs)! It even rocks a HiDPI display which I would have thought would be too much for the poor little CPU and integrated graphics to drive.

Honestly, I think it's as fast/smooth as ChromeOS which is quite a feat for these little underpowered Chromebooks.

In den fünf Jahren seines Bestehens setzt der Android Jabber/XMPP client immer wieder Maßstäbe in Sachen Bedienbarkeit und Zuverlässigkeit. Doch was steckt eigentlich dahinter?
